Sharia in action in Mali: Couple stoned to d*ath for adultery

A couple accused of engaging in extramarital affairs have been stoned to d*ath by an Islamic militant group in control of northern Mali.

The young pair were publicly executed in the remote town of Aguelhok, near the vast West African nation's northern border with Algeria, on Sunday, a spokesman for the Ansar Dine ('defenders of the faith') group said.

'These two people were married and had extra-conjugal relations. 'Our men on the ground in Aguelhok applied sharia [Islamic law],' Sanda Ould Bounama said on Monday. 'They both died right away and even asked for this application.

'We don't have to answer to anyone over the application of sharia,' he said. Most people living in northern Mali have long practised Islam, but frustrations with the strict form of sharia being imposed by Islamists have sparked several protests in recent months.

Ansar Dine and well-armed allies, including Al Qaeda splinter group Mujwa, have hijacked a separatist uprising by local Tuareg rebels and now control two-thirds of north Mali's desert - including Gao, Kidal and Timbuktu.

My Husband Will Not Show Me Any Affection what So Ever, I Fell Rejected

Dear todaysgist,

My Husband will not show me any affection what so ever. I have communicated with him several times that he is not meeting my needs. He doesn’t pay attention to me.

He doesn’t conversate with me and if he does its about whats going on in his life. He won’t cuddle with me or even look at me when I walk around n*ked.

I have lost 26 pounds trying to get his attention like I use to have it. I look the best I have ever looked. He is 25 and doesn’t want to have s*x with his wife.

I was told that I needed to stop it and knock it off with him” I need affection/attention” thing. He told me that,it was to the point he felt like it is a chore to have s*x with me.

He feels that he has to make a checklist on what he should do. It shouldn’t be like this. Affection, love, and s*x should all come natural when you love someone and are married.

How can a 25 year old not have a need or want for intimacy? Please help? He is not cheating that I can see. I have access to bank and phone records.. only because of this situation.

Nothing is going on out of the ordinary. Advice? Its so hard to sit on the couch and watch tv and not have him conversate with me or sit next to me or ask me about my day. I feel so alone and so rejected,or he don´t love me anymore? I need advice please,

Black Couple Decides To Remarry 50 Years After Divorce

Like a story out of a bestseller, Lena Henderson and Roland Davis are set to remarry, 50 years after they divorced. The Buffalo News reports that the New York couple married as teenagers and were together for 20 years before they divorced in 1964 after four children together.

The couple met in Chattanooga, Tennessee back when they were teens. One of those children – their oldest daughter, Johnnie Mae Funderbirk – is a big reason they’re back together.

Funderbirk encouraged her father to move from Colorado back to New York after his second wife died a few months ago, where she hoped he would reconnect with her mother. The couple never lost touch during their 50 years apart, frequently talking on the phone (Henderson had even counselled Davis’ then wife on how to deal with him).

Davis popped the question – again – to Henderson over the phone after deciding to move back to New York. She said “yes,” and he soon flew to Buffalo with the engagement ring pinned to his shirt out of fear of losing it during the flight.

Davis and Henderson will tie the knot again on Saturday, August 4 at a church in Seneca. However, the jury is still out on whether or not remarrying a spouse is a good idea.

Am I A Fool? I Am Deeply In Love With A Girl That Doesnt Care About Me(A MUST READ)

It all Began last year, i meet this cool wonderful girl and fell in love with her. i went to nigeria to meet her and luckily for the both of us, we came to europe together. Before we came, friends and families warned me that now she is coming to europe, i should bear it in mind that she would change but i never believed any of them. finally, we got to ukraine. i am a medical studuent so also is she too but i am a year ahead of her. Everything was going on well, not until she started telling her friends, colleagues and acquittance that i and her were just friends. i confronted her about it and she said denied ever saying it.

Luckily for me, i caught her red handed when she saying that to her friend while we were talking on phone. she was like, its the church leader, i cant tell her bla bla bla.. I didn't bring up the issue again.. but before then, i spend on her, get her gifts, and so on and so forth... But surprisingly, she doesn't get me anything.. not until i brought up the issue with her and ask her why she doesn't even care about me. she gave me flimsy excuses again.. i didn't object.. On valentines day which was early this year, i got her a present but she got me nothing.. i didn't complain.. before our first Year anniversary i noticed some changes in her.

Asked her about it she was like, she's just scared.. that she has never been this long in a relationship before. i comforted her.. told her life will be beautiful.. i kept on telling her that lets live each day together as if were to be our last. The anniversary went well. after that day, she mysteriously changed. she stopped coming around, she stopped calling. so out of annoyance, i diverted all my calls because i didn't want her to call again.. i wanted to see if she was gonna miss me.. Unfortunately, i was wrong...she didn't...so we started having constant quarrels.

Few days ago, i called her one night at around 9:46pm, i asked her where she was, she told me she was in a cab going somewhere, i asked her where she was to going to by this time of the night, she was trying to fix in words and she said she was going to one of her friends house.. and that friend in particular has been asking her out.. i was like, what do you wanna go and do in his house, she was like, he told her to come. i said ok. then i sent her a text immediately saying i don't know what is going on between you two. but please before something happens, let me know or please cut me off.

she called me instantly saying, i cant be an ingrate, inshort, i wont stay long there, i ll b going back to my hostel. i said ok. i believe you. i called her back around 11pm that same night and asked her if she was home, she said she was already home. i then told her i wanted to see her. it was urgent. she said ok. so i called a taxi to go and pick her up from her hostel. then i called her and told her the taxi was downstairs.

she was like, ''do you know where i am? i am still in his house and am spending the night '' i was dumb-folded i was like but you told me you were home already, she denied every saying she was home. i was like, but i called a cab when u said you were home.. dt instant i didn't know what to do again. i told her to give the phone to the guy and i told him to please get a cab for her that i needed to see her urgently.. and the surprising thing my girlfriend asked was, hope i ll be coming back o.. i said ok no problem. When she came, i started telling her i am tired.

i dont like wat she was doing to me, she started begging, crying and she cut her hands with a knife. immediately, i changed my mood coz i didnt want her to get hurt. i then told her i have forgiven her and i still love her. i said it from my heart and i meant it. immediately, she then said she wanted to go back to the friend's apartment at around 3am in the midnyt.. i was devastated. i called the cab and she changed her mind. The next morning, she said she was going, i was like, to ur hostel right? she said no.

To his house. i didnt argue. i said ok. i called the cab. gave her all the money in my wallet. she left. Do you know that she never called me even wen she got there. i then called her and was like, u didn't call me that you have gotten there.. why? she was like she forgot, and shez sorry. i said ok. no p. later that evening, i made dinner for the both of us and called her on phone saying i have a surprise for her and i want her to come to my place.

she said she was going to think about it and she ll call to gv me her reply. i waited for hours and she didn't call. i then called and asked if she was coming, she said she's already in her hostel and she can't go out again.. i was like, why didn't you tell me u werent gonna come? u kept me waiting all these while. anyway, no problem.. so i called her on skype while we were chatting.. i noticed she wasnt the only one in her room.

i asked who was with her at around 11:41pm, she said her friend. i asked, which friend she said the guy she went to his apartment. i was like, i tot u said he has gotten an apartment and wat is he doing in your room by this time of the nyt? she said nothing. out of annoyance i said goodnyt and logged off. I then called her later and told her i have to see her. its very important. that she shld meet me in a restaurant the next day. she did keep to her promise. she came.

i talked to her and told her i have been suffering in this relationship so i have deviced a means on hw to save our relationship. i told her that i am relieving her. i want her to be free. she should try who ever she wants to try and do the things she wanna do and if those things or people makes her more happier than i do. then she shld go for it. but if she doesnt, i ll be here waiting for her.

i guess she didnt understand so i was removed, her passport photograph frm my wallet and told her to have it. that when she shez coming bk into my life she should bring a new photo. she refused so she walked out on me. that is from the restaurant. i followed her. i was like was it that difficult? you should have told me u werent willing to work things out wit me and u wanted out.. i would have understood.

infact the moment i handed u that photograph, i was testing you. Now i know the truth. you want to be freed. the next thing she told me was DAMN ME! i was mute. she hugged me. the moment she hugged me, i tot she ws willing to change and make this better but i experienced the opposite. she said, i am gonna leave now, dont think i m leaving becos i want to. its bcos i am ashamed of myself and cant look at you in the eyes.

that was how she left. i called her back countless times, i shouted her name, begged her to come back but she refused. that was how she left.. Please pals, i am torn apart. i dont know what to do again.. i feel like screaming and banging my head on the wall. please i need your opinion on what to do... It would be greatly appreciated if you all contribute and lighten my burden.. Thanks in advance.

Subsidy Killer DPO Arrest, Locked and Key Thrown Into River Niger

Until two weeks ago that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar ordered that the former divisional police officer in charge of Pen Cinema Police Station, Mr. Segun Fabunmi, who allegedly shot dead one Abiodun Ademola be put into the cell, the k*ller-DPO was treated like a king.

We authoritatively gathered that following investigation by IGP that the DPO was not in the cell at the state Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti, Yaba, Lagos, he ordered that the man should be put inside the cell.
investigation showed that the man had actually been enjoying VIP treatment. Fabunmi was alleged to have shot into a crowd of youths playing football at the Yaya Abatan area of Ogba during the January protest against the removal of fuel subsidy.

The fatal shot sent one Abiodun Ademola to his early grave while four others sustained various degrees of injury. The then state Commissioner of Police, Yakubu Alkali ordered his arrest and handed him over to the Homicide section of SCID.

A senior police officer at the SCID said that the police had concluded their investigation but were waiting for the Police Service Commission to decide the fate of the DPO.
The police source said as a senior police officer, the IGP or the commissioner of police had no power to dismiss him except the Police Service Commission. He said the police had done their bit by investigating and submitting their findings to the commission.

The police source further revealed that the DPO actually enjoyed VIP treatment as he was given the privilege to sleep in some of the offices of senior officers at the SCID. He said the DPO had the freedom of seeing his family members, eating and drinking anything of his choice unlike others facing murder investigation.

According to him, until two weeks ago, that Abubakar ordered that he should not be given VIP treatment he was living like a king. When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, corroborated the claim that, he had no right to dismiss the officers. Manko said police had concluded investigation into the matter and he had got the DPP advice to try him.

He said police had nothing to hide on the issue, debunking the claim that the man was enjoying VIP treatment. He said: “We don’t spare our own when they err. We treat them according to the offence they committed.

The DPO is still in our custody at the SCID. We cannot defend any of our officers who used his fire arms wrongly because the officers knows when to use the fire arms as the rules are clearly stated in the Police Order Act.

UNBELIEVABLE :Man Marries 13 Years Old Daughter After Wife's Demise

Things are happening everywhere. A Bulawayo man has been arrested after he forced himself on his 13-year-old daughter whom he claimed to have married under the INSTRUCTION of his dead wife. The girl (name withheld) is a Grade six pupil at a primary school in Cowdry park. It is reported that the man (name withheld to protect the identity of the minor) has ben staying with his daughter since his wife di*d in 2009.

According to a source, sometime last month, the man allegedly had a dream of his wife ordering him to marry their daughter. The man then told some of his relatives about the ‘instruction’. “they did not agree on what route to take as the issue was complex. Some of them were of the opinion that he adheres to the order while some dismissed it as unacceptable,” said the source. Early this month, the man decided to obey the order and ‘married’ his daughter in a ceremony attended by his close confidantes.

“It was just a private ceremony. They bought food and drinks and held a small party. That was just about it and the young girl got married married to her father,” said the source. Like what is expected of ‘married people’, the man thought it wise to get his daughter under his sheets. It is reported that on Tuesday last week, the man was sleeping in his bedroom while his daughter-cum-wife was in the sitting room watching television.

He is said to have proceeded to the room and sate besides his ‘wife’. The man then told his daughter/wife that it was time to indulge. Perhaps perplexed by the situation, the girl tried to get away from her father/husband. This was not taken kindly to by the man who forcibly pushed her to the floor and went on to force himself on her.

The girl then told a relative about her ordeal and was taken to the police station where a report was made, The man was arrested and found himself standing before Western Commonage magistrate facing rape charges. He shocked the magistrate, Mr Richard Ramaboea when he claimed that he was married to his daughter. “I am married to her. She is my wife. I acted under the instructions of my dead wife, ” he said. The man was, however, remanded in custody to 27 August.

Reverend Arrested Over Killing of Oshiomhole's Aide; "We Were Offered N20m"

A suspect in custody in connection with the murder of Olaitan Oyerinde, the Private Secretary to Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, has reportedly told police interrogators that he was offered N20m for the dirty job. He said he was paid N200,000 as part payment with which he recruited four others.

Five suspects, including the Executive Director of the African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), Rev. David Ugolor, have been arrested in connection with the murder. Rev. At Last, Pastor Okotie's Ex-Wife Secrets Exposed!

Stephanie Adie Henshaw, Unknown to many except close friends, has never been married before Reverend Chris Okotie in the true sense of the word. The mother of three children from two men has rather been a victim of abuse and ill-luck with a chequered history of marital woes that ended up breaking into pieces her fragile heart.

Stephanie’s first love before Okotie came into the picture was a young man she met through a friend in Lagos. With no intention of marriage, being quite young then, the innocent Calabar girl, unfortunately got pregnant for the man. She was still carrying his baby when he was shot to death in Surulere, Lagos. The tragic death of Stephanie’s hat would happen to her years after.

"The pain they inflicted on Stephanie after the death of the father of her fisrt child was unbearable. One day, she was invited by the man’s people to know how the child was faring. And before she knew what was happening, they took custody of the child. She never set eyes on the boy until two, three years ago," a highly reliable source told ENCOMIUM Weekly. We further learnt that Stepahnie’s son was taken to England where he schooled before returning to the country.

He has since reunited with his mom. Stephanie Henshaw’s affair with one businessman, Mazi Okechukwu (Okey) was totally built on deceit which was not initially to the knowledge of the ravishingly beautiful lady. "Stephanie didn’t know that Okey was a fraud. Okey told her he was not married. He was building a house back then in Omole Estate.

Okey had rented a house for Stephanie in Ikeja, Lagos. And each time he sneaked out to see his first wife and children, he would say he had gone to see his mother. The day she found out the truth, she literally fainted,"our source revealed. It was in-between this affair that produced two sons that Rev. Okotie, who had been admiring Stephanie from a distance started walking into her life.

ENCOMIUM Weekly learnt she was naturally pissed off with the Igbo businessman and literally needed a man she could call hers. From what we were told, Okotie staked his reputation, and risked his life to have Stephanie. “He really loved Stephanie. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for her. Okotie had cause to jump a fence for the sake of this love. Of course, you already know, he was attacked physically on several occasions all for Stephanie.

"It was this same Okey that smashed Okotie’s windscreen and all that. He, however, had to give up when it was obvious that Stephanie was no longer interested in the relationship. After all, there was no marriage to be dissolved, since there was none in the first place". A born again Christian for almost 20 years, we were informed that Stephanie has always known God despite her marital woes.

'I cannot be Solomon and order the children to be cut in half',

A top judge faced with having to decide whether two young children should live with their mother or their grandmother has said that he 'cannot be Solomon and order them to be cut in half.'

And the scene of Biblical wisdom continued as Lord Justice Ward told the weeping grandmother she would no longer be able to care for the boy and girl, aged five and three, as if they were her own. Despite winning the judge's sympathy and admiration, the grandmother, from the Maidstone area, failed to block a decision that the children, who she has cared for since the girl was a one-year-old baby, must move to live with their mother.

However, in a powerful message to the mother, the judge said she was duty-bound to ensure her children have love and respect for their grandmother and continue to see her regularly as they grow up. The judge told the court the paternal grandmother took in the mother and her children in 2010, because the mother was 'in a mess' and was clearly unable to cope with bringing them up.

However, after the mother made a 'dramatic improvement', a family court judge recently decided the children could be returned to her, as she was by then capable of caring for them. Lord Justice Ward said the decision was 'finely balanced' as both the grandmother and the mother had a strong case for saying she should be the children's primary carer. However, after observing that he 'cannot be Solomon', he added: 'They had to go with one or t'other.

It is a hard judgment to make, but one which I simply cannot say is wrong.' He said that, in the end, the family judge made the decision in the best interests of the children, as it may affect their self-esteem to grow up only seeing their mother on weekends. He said the grandmother's decision to battle for her grandchildren in the courts, having to fund her case herself, demonstrated her devotion to them.

Rejecting her appeal bid, he said: 'I have great sympathy for her - more than that, I have great admiration for her. 'I earnestly hope this is a very strong message to the mother who sits before me. It is her bounden duty to ensure that her children love and respect their grandmother and see her regularly. 'If life gets too tough for the mother, as it conceivably might, I have no doubt that this grandmother is loving and generous enough to take over responsibility if necessary.'

Think your other half's snoring is hell? Read on and count your blessings

The nocturnal ritual would usually keep to the same pattern. First, as I sprawled in bed and my nasal rumbles began to fill the room, my dear wife would make a gentle request that I change position. So I would mutter an apology and turn over. But to no avail, for the rolling thunder would only intensify. Further spousal imprecations would follow, each more desperate than the last. Yet nothing could halt the roaring adenoidal storm. Finally, as my snoring reached its crescendo, I would be expelled from the marital bed and forced to spend the rest of the night in the spare room.

This exasperating routine went on for years. Somehow we were both infused with the foolish hope that one night the snoring might cease. But it never did. Eventually we gave up the battle and agreed that I should permanently sleep in my own separate bedroom, which was soon christened ‘the hutch of shame’. Sadly our experience is shared by millions of other couples in Britain, with inveterate snorers like me causing widespread frustration and fatigue. To misquote Oscar Wilde, insomnia is the curse of the non-snoring classes.

According to researchers, no fewer than 40 per cent of men over 30 snore, with that proportion rising significantly as we get older and heavier. But husbands generally have to endure much less than wives do, for women are half as likely to snore as men. For some, the phenomenon of heavy snoring is simply intolerable. In an interview last week, the Olympic heroine Dame Kelly Holmes admitted that she had no patience with us snort merchants.
Dame Kelly Holmes is so enraged by snoring that she wakes up people who snore on planes while travelling

‘It winds me up so much,’ declared the double gold medallist. She wasn’t even talking about partners in bed. So profound is her hatred of the habit that, in the past, she has woken up ‘countless’ snorers on planes when she is travelling. ‘Now, I’ll either knock past someone deliberately, or tell the hostess to wake them otherwise I’m going to smother them,’ she added.

Well, I wouldn’t last long in the presence of the great dame. Those Olympian forearms would soon be smacking the back of my nodding head once I’d settled into my seat. Dame Kelly Holmes is so enraged by snoring that she wakes up people who snore on planes while travelling To give you an indication of how loud my snoring is, I was chatting to a neighbour the other day and he mentioned, to my embarrassment, that he could actually hear me from his garden early in the morning — even though I sleep on the third floor of our house.

Sometimes, in my defence, I say that I come from a family of heavy snorers. Some of my male relatives could have competed for Team GB if snoring were an Olympic sport. Even in my youth, I could easily wreck the peace of the night. On one occasion, I went to a student party at a friend’s house in Brighton and, once the drink had run out, a large group of us bedded down in sleeping bags on the floor of an upper room.

The next morning, I woke up on the floor of the kitchen, still in my sleeping bag. When I asked my friend how on earth I had got there, he told me that the other party-goers were so fed up with my snoring that they lifted me up and put me downstairs. I had slept through the whole thing. The British Snoring Association, a body which sounds as if it should be affiliated to the Liberal Democrats, explains that snoring is ‘caused by turbulence in the airway’ during breathing. This turbulence results from a partial blockage that can be ‘located anywhere from the tip of the nose to the vocal chords’.

Apparently women are afflicted less because their tissue is softer and therefore less inclined to cause restrictions. But snoring is not just a matter of physical structure. It can also be exacerbated by self-indulgent behaviour, like drinking too much, over-eating and taking no exercise, which is no doubt why the super-fit Kelly Holmes is so intolerant, and why I, as immobile as a stone on Easter Island, am so prone to the problem.

Over the years, my wife and I have tried many solutions — on top of the ear plugs that she still wears even though I sleep in a different room. I have fixed nasal strips across the bridge of my nose, which were supposed to help me breathe more easily but did nothing except make me look like I had been in a fight. I have put special drops down my nostrils and sprays in the back of my throat.

I have used special pillows, tried sleeping upright and listened to meditative music — all methods that failed. The roaring beast will not be conquered. Separate quarters is the only approach that has worked, at least in terms of allowing us both to sleep. My wife has been remarkably tolerant, but I have to confess that my snoring has played a hugely disruptive role in our lives. Because of our need for separate rooms, we have not stayed with any friends for more than a decade.

It is just too embarrassing to insist that we cannot sleep in the same bed. Recently, we drove back through the night from North Wales to our home in Margate, just so we did not inflict my racket on our hosts. Decisions over accommodation are always swayed by my snoring. A few years ago, we were thinking of moving from our terrace house to a flat in Canterbury, but then recognised that the more confined space, even with two bedrooms, would serve only as a ghastly echo chamber.

Man Stabbed Ex Girlfriend 50 Times After She Dumped Him

A jilted British man was jailed for 19 years today for stabbing his ex girlfriend nearly 50 times after she dumped him.

Judges called Alan Daulby's attack on the blonde bar worker ‘brutal and barbaric’ as they sentenced him to just one year short of the maximum jail term that prosecutors were demanding.

A jury last month found the 27-year-old British expat guilty of the stabbing murder of Irish woman Avril Flanagan, 20, at his flat on Spain's Costa Blanca on May 29, 2009.
He was convicted of knifing her 47 times around the head, neck, chest, arms and legs before hiding her body in plastic sheeting under his sofa as part of a clinical clean-up of the murder scene and going on the run.

Mr Daulby, 27, from Liverpool, Merseyside confessed to killing Miss Flanagan at the end of his trial but claimed he had confused her with an intruder after bingeing on drink and drugs and panicked when he woke up to find her dead.

Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi Storms London Olympics With 15 Commissioners & Aides

A few days after the Oyo State government sent wives of state legislators on a wasteful jamboree to the United Kingdom, the executive arm took its turn today, the governor and about 15 commissioners and assistants jetting out on a parallel $250,000 , publicly-funded trip to the Olympics Games.

Newsmen learnt that the pretence of the governor, whose state recently suffered a devastating flood that rendered many citizens homeless, is that his team will be hunting for foreign investors at the Olympics. In real life, the Oyo state contingent will merely be enjoying the Olympics and shopping in London, SaharaReporters was informed.

The governor is a member of the Action Congress Party of Nigeria (ACN), the leading opposition party in Nigeria, which has a sizable following in the Southwest region. The party is often quick to condemn wasteful spending by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ruling elite but typically ducks when its operatives engage in the same level of criminal conduct.

Only today, the ACN publicity secretary, Lai Mohammed, issued a statement asking PDP chairman Bamanga Tukur to resign from office on account of his son’s trial for oil subsidy fund fraud, but the party has failed to prevail on the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Ikuforiji, who is standing trial before a federal High Court in Lagos for stealing and laundering N500 million, to resign.

Among others, flood is a perennial problem in Oyo State. In just one instance last year, over 100 people were killed. And a few days ago, a temporary wooden bridge in Apete, Ido Local Government Area, was washed away, cutting off several communities. Critics say that rather than fix these problems, Ajimobi has chosen to idle away in London and burn valuable development funds.

A Political Science teacher at the University of Ibadan told SaharaReporters that Ajimobi has turned out a huge disappointment to the people of Oyo state and that he would not be surprised if citizens soon start saying they preferred former governor, Alao Akala. “The expectations that Ajimobi was going to improve on governance in Oyo state have been totally dashed,” he said. “You hardly can see any presence of governance in the state except in ostentatious lifestyles of government officials and senseless jamborees.

San Antonio police say a woman accused of b*h*ading her 3-week-old infant son used a knife and two swords in the attack and ate some of the child’s body parts.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus told reporters Monday that Otty Sanchez’s attack on her son, Scott Wesley Buchholtz-Sanchez, was “too heinous” to fully discuss.

But he says Sanchez ate part of the newborn’s brain and bit off three of his toes before stabbing herself twice.

Police say the 33-year-old Sanchez told officers who were called to her house early Sunday that she killed her son at the devil’s request.

Sanchez is charged with capital murder and is being held on $1 million bail. She is recovering from her wounds at a hospital.

Corruption In NNPC Recruitment: Bayelsa Gets 11; Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna Get Zero

The recent recruitment by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is lopsided in favour of some states and has not reflected the Federal Character principle, an analysis of the recruitment document obtained by Daily Trust has revealed.

The list, for instance, shows that out of the total 132 senior officers employed, there were no candidates from Kano, Kaduna and Sokoto. But Bayelsa, the home state of President Goodluck Jonathan and Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke, got 11 slots making it the highest.

Also, Kogi State, where the immediate past Group Managing Director of the Corporation Engineer Austen Oniwon comes from got nine while Rivers and Imo states followed with eight candidates each.

The North East’s states of Borno, Taraba, Niger got one slot each while in North Central, Nasarawa, Plateau states and FCT got one slot each.

Sources in Abuja told Olufamous.com that the official list might be released in August.

Insiders told Daily Trust that the lopsidedness did not only stop at the recruitment list but also postings to some of the core technical areas in the industry. The source said most of the northern staff recruited are to fill non-technical positions.

Unfortunately, when Daily Trust wrote NNPC demanding to know the recruitment procedure, the number of applicants from each state, points scored by each candidate at the test and interview levels, benchmark points set by the corporation, number of candidates that qualified with their states of origin and number of candidates employed by the corporation and their states or origin in line with Freedom of Information Act (FOI), the corporation said the provision of the Act does not bind statutory corporations like NNPC.

The complete list is as follows:
Abia 5, Adamawa 4, Akwa Ibom 4, Anambra 4, Bauchi 3, Bayelsa 11, Benue 4, Borno 1, C/River 3, Delta 4, Ebonyi 3, Edo 3, Ekiti 5, Enugu 1, Gombe 4, Imo 8, Jigawa 3, Kaduna 0, Kano 0, Katsina 2, Kebbi 1, Kogi 9, Kwara 3, Lagos 5, Nasarawa 1, Niger 1, Ogun 7, Ondo 4, Osun 4, Oyo 6, Plateau 1, Rivers 8, Sokoto 0, Taraba 1, Yobe 4, Zamfara 4, FCT 1, Total Experience 132. Diamond World: Scientists Discover Planet Completely Made of Diamond!

  • Astronomers have spotted an exotic planet that seems to be made of diamond racing around a tiny star in our galactic backyard. The new planet is far denser than any other known so far and consists largely of carbon.

  •  Because it is so dense, scientists calculate the carbon must be crystalline, so a large part of this strange world will effectively be diamond. “The evolutionary history and amazing density of the planet all suggest it is comprised of carbon — i.e. a massive diamond orbiting a neutron star every two hours in an orbit so tight it would fit inside our own Sun,” said Matthew Bailes of Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.

  •  Lying 4,000 light years away, or around an eighth of the way toward the center of the Milky Way from the Earth, the planet is probably the remnant of a once-massive star that has lost its outer layers to the so-called pulsar star it orbits. Pulsars are tiny, dead neutron stars that are only around 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) in diameter and spin hundreds of times a second, emitting beams of radiation.

  • In the case of pulsar J1719-1438, the beams regularly sweep the Earth and have been monitored by telescopes in Australia, Britain and Hawaii, allowing astronomers to detect modulations due to the gravitational pull of its unseen companion planet. The measurements suggest the planet, which orbits its star every two hours and 10 minutes, has slightly more mass than Jupiter but is 20 times as dense, Bailes and colleagues reported in the journal Science on Thursday.

  •  In addition to carbon, the new planet is also likely to contain oxygen, which may be more prevalent at the surface and is probably increasingly rare toward the carbon-rich center. Its high density suggests the lighter elements of hydrogen and helium, which are the main constituents of gas giants like Jupiter, are not present. Just what this weird diamond world is actually like close up, however, is a mystery.

Lets Support The Opposition To Flush PDP In 2015 –Nuhu Ribadu

Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Petroleum and former Chairman of the EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has called for a credible opposition to defeat the ruling PDP come 2015. Calling on all Nigerians to support moves by the opposition parties to merge, Olufamous.com gathered that Ribadu said he is ready to give everything he has to bring positive change to Nigeris.

He said the country needs urgent help in order to come out of its corruption and security related challenges. Hear him: “I am 100 per cent in support of the merger move by the opposition political parties in Nigeria. I believe that there is the need for all the political parties in Nigeria to come together particularly those who are in the opposition. “Nigeria is in dire need of a credible alternative to PDP.

If the parties come together, chances are that they would be able to have a formidable party that will confront PDP and until that is done, hopefully, it will bring relief to Nigerians.” The former EFCC boss, who was retired prematurely as Assistant Inspector-General of Police, also noted that the Nigeria Police Force is in tatters and should be urgently fixed for the nation to overcome its security and internal challenges.

The police must be reformed for peace to reign in Nigeria, Ribadu said. “The issue of security is very clear. We have a constitution in Nigeria that says the organ or the government agency that is responsible for ensuring that we have security, peace and stability is the Nigeria Police Force. Work on the Nigeria Police Force, fix the Nigeria Police Force, it is their own responsibility, no one else.

“Today, however, the Nigeria Police Force is tattered. It is in bad shape. If we want to have peace, if we want to have a genuine sustainable peace in this country, law enforcement, rule of law, then fix the Nigeria Police Force,” he said. Ribadu stated that at the weekend in Kaduna during the 7th annual Ramadan lectures.

Eight killed as gunmen open fire on worshippers

A gun battle near a mosque in the northern city of Kano and two other shootings left at least eight people dead on Sunday in the latest violence to hit the area, authorities said. It was not clear who was behind the attacks in the city of Kano, the largest in the mainly Muslim north, but they resembled similar incidents in the past blamed on Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

The deadliest occurred on Sunday night when gunmen opened fire in an area around a mosque while Muslims were observing Ramadan prayers and where a police team was already deployed to protect worshippers, a senior police official said. Police and the attackers exchanged fire and one of the assailants was k*lled when his own explosive device went off.

Three other gunmen were shot dead by police, according to the official who spoke on condition of anonymity. “The rest fled, abandoning their car and three motorcycles they came with,” the official said, adding that it was not clear whether police or the mosque was the target of the initial attack.

Earlier in the day, gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on the car of a Nigerian air force officer, k*lling the driver and an aide, while two other people were k*lled in a nearby neighbourhood, authorities said. “A car of one of our officers came under attack this morning,” Air Commodore Sani Ahmed said.

“The officer’s driver and his orderly were travelling out of town, but as they reached an area called Yan-Lemo, two gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on the car, k*lling the two personnel.” The officer was not in the car at the time, he said. In a similar incident earlier in the day, two gunmen on a motorcycle shot dead two people outside their house in a nearby neighourhood, said police spokesman Rilwanu Dutse.

A police source said the victims were from the mainly Christian Igbo ethnic group. Boko Haram has carried out scores of bombings and shootings in their insurgency in the north of Africa’s most populous nation that has left hundreds dead.
