SERAP tells Buhari,Osibanjo To Declare Their Assests Publicly as promised

Elections have come and gone, it's time to fulfill all the juicy promises made during the campaign period. Despite the fact that the President and vice president has declared their assets officially, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) have called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to declare their assets publicly in line with their promises for transparency and accountability. In a statement issued by the group ,they said

We welcome the official declaration of assets by the President and Vice President. This clearly complies with the requirements of the Nigerian Constitution as contained in Chapter VI Section 140. However, the declaration before the Code of Conduct alone falls far short of the commitment to publicly declare their assets.”“SERAP recalls that the President had said before the election that he would publicly declare his assets and liabilities, and encourage all his appointees to publicly declare their assets and liabilities as a pre-condition for appointment. We now expect the President to fulfil this promise to the Nigerian people,”SERAP trusts that the President and Vice President will move swiftly to publicly declare their assets and to publish widely the information on a dedicated website.”
“Public disclosure of assets will give the general public a true picture of the assets of the President and Vice President and will send a powerful message that it is not going to be business as usual with this government. This will also follow the best practice by former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, boost this government’s fight against corruption and impunity of perpetrators, and fully comply with the provisions of chapter two of the dealing with Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy, which among others require the government to take steps to eradicate corrupt practices and the abuse of power.”

Domestic violence is becoming prevalent these days and now the men are on the receiving end. Mrs. Victoria Ambakadrimo, the 28-year-old woman that stabbed her husband, Late Barr. Henry Gagariga, to death with a kitchen knife on the throat around 11pm of Wednesday, February 4 after a quarrel in Bayelsa has finally appeared before a state high court in Yenagoa for the first time.
The presiding judge, Justice A.S Rotimi, adjourned proceeding to 18th June 2015, to enable the prosecuting (the state) hand over certain forensic evidences to the defence counsels before hearing commence.
However, an appeal by the prosecuting counsel to have Victoria remanded at the Okaka medium security prison in Yenagoa until final judgment is read was granted.
Though frail looking Victoria pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of murder leveled against, she sobbed over and again as she was escorted to prison at the end of the court session.

The alleged husband slayer before killing her husband works at the Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture, and is reportedly the daughter of a renowned journalist and retired director in the state Ministry of Information.

Recall that Victoria stabbed her husband, Gagariga, to death during a domestic quarrel in their bedroom and was sighted by neighbours while attempting to dump his body on the road.

New Re-elected Governor of Borno State Insists On Amnesty for Boko Haram Members

Boko Haram has killed thousands, raped hundreds of our women and displaced thousands from their homes,so giving them amnesty seemed like the worst idea in the world. But read the newly re-elected governor, Mr. Shettima stand on Boko Haram and amnesty.
“I do not intend to spoil the celebration mood today but I simply cannot ignore the fact that as we are gathered here, looking good and so full of excitement, thousands of our fellow sons and daughters of Borno, old and young, including babies that are few days old, are displaced in their own land and country,”
“We have gone through the most savage insurgency of the Boko Haram sect, which massacred thousands of our people; especially destroying the cream of Borno youth and ensuring that into the next generation, we will be faced with a demographic crisis that will challenge our creative ingenuity, to overcome,” he said.
Mr. Shettima lambasted the government of Goodluck Jonathan, referring to it as “a hostile Federal Government, which lived in denial about the savagery of Boko Haram and which also saw the insurgency from the most perverted, narrow and irresponsible prism, that somehow, the insurgency had been fuelled against it, by the political and other elites of this part of Nigeria.”
“They therefore did only the barest and most perfunctory, to stem the problem. Meanwhile, our people suffered and our communities were systematically laid to waste,” he said. “Democracy became the saving grace for the people.“With our votes, we threw out a government at the centre, which did not work in the national interest and have now voted into power, President Muhammadu Buhari, who is also being inaugurated into power today in Abuja.”
He also reiterated his readiness to give members of Boko Haram a chance for amnesty.
“Unless we want to engage in an endless war of attrition that will be hallmarked by the continuing destruction of lives and property, it becomes imperative that willing members of the Boko Haram sect that want to come out of the bush must be given the opportunity to be de-radicalized and then rehabilitated to become useful citizens of society,” he said.
“It is never easy to accept back into the community, those who have taken up arms, killed, pillaged, raped and destroyed. But in the long run, society must make very expensive choices for peace, reconciliation and development. We are therefore appealing to the Federal Government of Nigeria and the International Community to assist our endeavour in that regard.”

Dencia Speaks About Her Issues with Tonto Dikeh And Lupita Nyongo

Dencia is a controversial person, so she is constantly in the news for so many reasons. She never keeps quiet about any issue. She recently interfered in to an issue between Tonto Dikeh and a luxury shopper ,Pearl. The singer who was in Nigeria recently to promote her new video African Energy told Punch Saturday Beats
“I don’t have issues with Tonto Dikeh, I just don’t like it when someone feels because she is bigger than another person, she can trample down on them. Pearl is my protégé and my sister and I felt that she was being cheated, so I spoke on her behalf. I hate it when someone who feels she is big in the society cheats another person who seems smaller in class,”
On the source of her wealth, she says

“I made most of my money from the sale of my beauty cream, Whitenicious. I make a lot of money from that and it has been able to sustain me. I don’t do drugs even though I have friends who indulge in it. I neither drink nor smoke too,”
she said. She also addressed the issue of her beauty cream being discredited by Oscar award winner, Luputa Nyongo.Dencia said,
“I don’t have issues with Lupita. I never knew who she was until she spoke about me. There were a lot of politics in the background that a lot of people would not understand and I don’t want to go into it. But it is wrong to talk badly about somebody’s brand. If it happens, it means that there is somebody in the background paying you to do so. That is how it happens in LA and everywhere around the world. When I woke up that morning and read what she said, I was shocked because I did not know who she was. I asked my sister to find out who she was and my sister searched for her on Google. That was when I knew who she was. When I realised who she was, I leveraged on what she said and used her for publicity instead. Few days after, she discredited my brand when she had an endorsement with a skincare company. How would you discredit me and the next day you are endorsed by a company that sells a similar product like I do? It is not rocket science,”

GEJ Narrates How He join Politics As a Civil Servant During Reception In Bayelsa(Photos)

Whatever you may think about Former President Jonathan, deep down you have to agree he is a very good person, maybe too good to govern us in the first place. The former president gave an interesting tale of how he entered politics during his reception in Bayelsa yesterday. he said that before he became deputy governor of the state, he had no interest in politics. Narrating how he dabbled into politics, Jonathan said,
“It all started with me and Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha. I knew Alamieyeseigha when he wanted to contest the governorship of Bayelsa State under the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party. That was the first time I knew Alamieyeseigha. We formed groups in every local governments – two persons to sign petition to enable Alamieyeseigha to contest. But a late Chief Judge asked me and one person from Ogbia to sign the petition. Even though I was a civil servant, I signed the document. I was in the Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission then. Of course, when he started his campaign, I joined.

"Not because I was interested in any elective office, but what drove me into joining Alamieyeseigha’s team was that those of us from very small communities always have problems and sometimes you have to run to government for assistance. I felt that if I worked with him and luckily he won, I would know some of the people in government.
“When electioneering started after Abdusalami Abubakar took over, Alamieyeseigha did not call me. But somewhere along the line because we had worked together, one evening, one Bozimo and another person came to my house and asked me to run with Alamieyeseigha as deputy governor.
“I was living in Port Harcourt then and I knew how primaries work and I said I would think about it. In fact, the following day, I told Bozimo that I was not interested, but the whole thing changed later. The detail will come later. That was how Bozimo and Alamieyeseigha brought me in and during the election, we won.
“From 1999 to date, my people and Nigerians have given me rare opportunity, rare privilege. I was deputy governor, governor, vice-president and President of the country. I am grateful to all Nigerians.”
“Nigerians have given me so much that I cannot stay back. That is why I maintain that we need peace in this country. We need development in this country. Political crises don’t bring development. And I believe the new administration will work with all Nigerians and make sure Nigerians are happy. I am indeed happy about the statement the President made that he did not belong to any clique, but to Nigerians. I congratulate him for that." (Punch)

Newly elected Governor of Kaduna State,  Nasiru El-Rufai  said he would forfeit 50 per cent of his salary pending when the financial situation of the state improves.
The governor stated this in his inaugural address, after he was sworn-in by the state Chief Judge, Justice Tanimu Zailani in Kaduna. He said that the pay cut would also affect the Deputy Governor, Mr Barnabas Bala.

El-Rufa’i also declared that the administration would “guarantee free and compulsory basic education for every child up to JS3, regardless of gender, religion or ethnicity.”

He said that in spite of the challenges facing the state, the administration would also “focus on jobs, security, education, and healthcare.”

El-Rufai said the situation demanded for “difficult decisions”, adding that political office holders must sacrifice the comfort of their offices for the greater good of all.

“In recognition of the difficult challenges we face, our deputy Governor and I have concluded that the sacrifices that change requires must begin with us.
“We have decided to take a pay cut and donate 50 percent of our salaries and allowances, until our fiscal situation improves.“We understand that leadership by example is the most persuasive way to demand sacrifices from all of us as citizens.“We pledge to avoid ostentation and foolish bigmanism, and to value transparency, modesty and accountability.

Why Patience Jonathan Was Missing At The Inauguration Ceremony

Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan  stirred up another controversy when she didn't attend the inauguration  ceremony of President Buhari. For a woman always by her husband's side many wondered why she did not attend the  ceremony held at Eagle Square.

According to Daily Post, Mrs Jonathan had to be persuaded into following Goodluck Jonathan to the inauguration dinner which took place yesterday 28th May.

A presidency source disclosed that the real reason behind her today’s absence at the Abuja venue is that Dame Patience could probably fail to control her emotions as it was painful for her to leave just after one term in office.

The source who pleaded for anonymity further narrated that after the yesterday’s dinner Jonathan’s wife broke down in tears. Apparently she did not want the situation to repeat at the Eagles Square, full of guests and cameras.
Another top source dismissed the allegations saying:

“Mama Peace has an important event to attend in Otuoke, their country home. You don’t expect her to attend the inauguration when people are waiting for her arrival back home. She is not aggrieved over anything and she is not the only First lady who could not attend the inauguration. Her attendance is highly insignificant. I don’t know why you, press people are trying to make something out of that.”

Absence of “Mama Peace” caused uproar in social media. Nigerians lamented over the disrespect demonstrated by the top official of the country to the incoming government.

Inaugural Speech By His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari

President Buhari has been sworn in after winning the last presidential election. If you missed his inaugural speech when it is televised Live, here is your chance to read everything.
INAUGURAL SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI FOLLOWING HIS SWEARING-IN AS PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON 29TH MAY, 2015
I am immensely grateful to God Who Has preserved us to witness this day and this occasion. Today marks a triumph for Nigeria and an occasion to celebrate her freedom and cherish her democracy. Nigerians have shown their commitment to democracy and are determined to entrench its culture. Our journey has not been easy but thanks to the determination of our people and strong support from friends abroad we have today a truly democratically elected government in place.
I would like to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for his display of statesmanship in setting a precedent for us that has now made our people proud to be Nigerians wherever they are. With the support and cooperation he has given to the transition process, he has made it possible for us to show the world that despite the perceived tension in the land we can be a united people capable of doing what is right for our nation. Together we co-operated to surprise the world that had come to expect only the worst from Nigeria. I hope this act of graciously accepting defeat by the outgoing President will become the standard of political conduct in the country. I would like to thank the millions of our supporters who believed in us even when the cause seemed hopeless. I salute their resolve in waiting long hours in rain and hot sunshine to register and cast their votes and stay all night if necessary to protect and ensure their votes count and were counted.  I thank those who tirelessly carried the campaign on the social media. At the same time, I thank our other countrymen and women who did not vote for us but contributed to make our democratic culture truly competitive, strong and definitive. I thank all of you.

Having just a few minutes ago sworn on the Holy Book, I intend to keep my oath and serve as President to all Nigerians. I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody. A few people have privately voiced fears that on coming back to office I shall go after them. These fears are groundless. There will be no paying off old scores. The past is prologue. Our neighbours in the Sub-region and our African brethenen should rest assured that Nigeria under our administration will be ready to play any leadership role that Africa expects of it. Here I would like to thank the governments and people of Cameroon, Chad and Niger for committing their armed forces to fight Boko Haram in Nigeria. I also wish to assure the wider international community of our readiness to cooperate and help to combat threats of cross-border terrorism, sea piracy, refugees and boat people, financial crime, cyber crime, climate change, the spread of communicable diseases and other challenges of the 21st century.

At home we face enormous challenges. Insecurity, pervasive corruption, the hitherto unending and seemingly impossible fuel and power shortages are the immediate concerns. We are going to tackle them head on. Nigerians will not regret that they ha e entrusted national responsibility to us. We must not succumb to hopelessness and defeatism. We can fix our problems. In recent times Nigerian leaders appear to have misread our mission. Our founding fathers, Mr Herbert Macauley, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Malam Aminu Kano, Chief J.S. Tarka, Mr Eyo Ita, Chief Denis Osadeby, Chief Ladoke Akintola and their colleagues worked to establish certain standards of governance. They might have differed in their methods or tactics or details, but they were united in establishing a viable and progressive country. Some of their successors behaved like spoilt children breaking everything and bringing disorder to the house. Furthermore, we as Nigerians must remind ourselves that we are heirs to great civilizations: Shehu Othman Dan fodio’s caliphate, the Kanem Borno Empire, the Oyo Empire, the Benin Empire and King Jaja’s formidable domain. The blood of those great ancestors flow in our veins.

What is now required is to build on these legacies, to modernize and uplift Nigeria. Daunting as the task may be it is by no means insurmountable. There is now a national consensus that our chosen route to national development is democracy. To achieve our objectives we must consciously work the democratic system. The Federal Executive under my watch will not seek to encroach on the duties and functions of the Legislative and Judicial arms of government. The law enforcing authorities will be charged to operate within the Constitution. We shall rebuild and the public service to become more effective and moreserviceable. We shall charge them to apply themselves with integrity to stabilize the system. For their part the legislative arm must keep to their brief of making laws, carrying out over-sight functions and doing so expeditiously.

The judicial system needs reform to cleanse itself from its immediate past. The country now expects the judiciary to act with dispatch on all cases especially on corruption, serious financial crimes or abuse of office. It is only when the three arms act constitutionally that government will be enabled to serve the country optimally and avoid the confusion all too often bedeviling governance today. Elsewhere relations between Abuja and the States have to be clarified if we are to serve the country better. Constitutionally there are limits to powers of each of the three tiers of government but that should not mean the Federal Government should fold its arms and close its eyes to what is going on in the states and local governments.
Not least the operations of the Local Government Joint Account. While the Federal Government can not interfere in the details of its operations it will ensure that the gross corruption at the local level is checked. As far as the constitution allows me I will try to ensure that there is responsible and accountable governance at all levels of government in the country. For I will not have kept my own trust with the Nigerian people if I allow others abuse theirs under my watch.
However, no matter how well organized the governments of the federation are they can not succeed without the support, understanding and cooperation of labour unions, organized private sector, the press and civil society organizations. I appeal to employers and workers alike to unite in raising productivity so that everybody will have the opportunity to share in increased prosperity. The Nigerian press is the most vibrant in Africa. My appeal to the media today – and this includes the social media – is to exercise its considerable powers with responsibility and patriotism.
My appeal for unity is predicated on the seriousness of the legacy we are getting into. With depleted foreign reserves, falling oil prices, leakages and debts the Nigerian economy is in deep trouble and will require careful management to bring it round and to tackle the immediate challenges confronting us, namely; Boko Haram, the Niger Delta situation, the power shortages and unemployment especially among young people. For the longer term we have to improve the standards of our education. We have to look at the whole field of medicare. We have to upgrade our dilapidated physical infrastructure. The most immediate is Boko Haram’s insurgency. Progress has been made in recent weeks by our security forces but victory can not be achieved by basing the Command and Control Centre in Abuja. The command centre will be relocated to Maiduguri and remain until Boko Haram is completely subdued. But we can not claim to have defeated Boko Haram without rescuing the Chibok girls and all other innocent persons held hostage by insurgents.
This government will do all it can to rescue them alive. Boko Haram is a typical example of small fires causing large fires. An eccentric and unorthodox preacher with a tiny following was given posthumous fame and following by his extra judicial murder at the hands of the police. Since then through official bungling, negligence, complacency or collusion Boko Haram became a terrifying force taking tens of thousands of lives and capturing several towns and villages covering swathes of Nigerian sovereign territory. Boko Haram is a mindless, godless group who are as far away from Islam as one can think of. At the end of the hostilities when the group is subdued the Government intends to commission a sociological study to determine its origins, remote and immediate causes of the movement, its sponsors, the international connexions to ensure that measures are taken to prevent a reccurrence of this evil. For now the Armed Forces will be fully charged with prosecuting the fight against Boko haram.
We shall overhaul the rules of engagement to avoid human rights violations in operations. We shall improve operational and legal mechanisms so that disciplinary steps are taken against proven human right violations by the Armed Forces. Boko Haram is not only the security issue bedeviling our country. The spate of kidnappings, armed robberies, herdsmen/farmers clashes, cattle rustlings all help to add to the general air of insecurity inour land. We are going to erect and maintain an efficient, disciplined people – friendly and well – compensated security forces within an over – all security architecture.
The amnesty programme in the Niger Delta is due to end in December, but the Government intends to invest heavily in the projects, and programmes currently in place. I call on the leadership and people in these areas to cooperate with the State and Federal Government in the rehabilitation programmes which will be streamlined and made more effective. As ever, I am ready to listen to grievances of my fellow Nigerians. I extend my hand of fellowship to them so that we can bring peace and build prosperity for our people. No single cause can be identified to explain Nigerian’s poor economic performance over the years than the power situation. It is a national shame that an economy of 180 million generates only 4,000MW, and distributes even less. Continuous tinkering with the structures of power supply and distribution and close on $20b expanded since 1999 have only brought darkness, frustration, misery, and resignation among Nigerians. We will not allow this to go on. Careful studies are under way during this transition to identify the quickest, safest and most cost-effective way to bring light and relief to Nigerians.
Unemployment, notably youth un-employment features strongly in our Party’s Manifesto. We intend to attack the problem frontally through revival of agriculture, solid minerals mining as well as credits to small and medium size businesses to kick – start these enterprises. We shall quickly examine the best way to revive major industries and accelerate the revival and development of our railways, roads and general infrastructure. Your Excellencies, My fellow Nigerians I can not recall when Nigeria enjoyed so much goodwill abroad as now.
The messages I received from East and West, from powerful and small countries are indicative of international expectations on us. At home the newly elected government is basking in a reservoir of goodwill and high expectations. Nigeria therefore has a window of opportunity to fulfill our long – standing potential of pulling ourselves together and realizing our mission as a great nation.
Our situation somehow reminds one of a passage in Shakespeare’s Julius Ceasar There is a tide in the affairs of men which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; Omitted, all the voyage of their life, Is bound in shallows and miseries.
We have an opportunity. Let us take it.
Thank you
Muhammadu Buhari
President Federal Republic of NIGERIA and Commander in-chief-of the Armed forces

Jonathan is Nigeria's Worst President Ever?Yeah Or Nay- give your reasons and state lessons learnt from Jonathan administration

I came across the above photo on social media and could not just ignore it so i wanted to hear from friends what they think about the performance of President Goodluck Jonathan. Let me first and foremost give my stand and state my reasons and i expect you to follow suite.

I don't think Jonathan is the worst President in our history, he's not even close to the worst. Yes, he did below my expectation, he is always silent at very sensitive time, he did nothing to curb corruption or exploitation of government officials, he reacted to the insecurity in the North caused by Boko Haram rather too late and he did not have a clear developmental plan for Nigeria. On the other hand, he is the first president to conduct an election termed 'the best' we have seen in our history and after losing he showed what a great statesman he was by conceiving defeat even before the final result was announced. He has the aura of a good, gentle man and that to me counted as one of his weakness because he was not ready to make enemies.

To be frank,he didn't do much and he destroyed the little he did by allowing his people suffer drastically in the hands of oil marketers few days before he handed over power.

Lessons Learnt
1. We don't need a good man to rule us, we need an iron fisted man, one that can boldly take on people destroying the country.
2. We don't need a leader who supports corruption at any level
3. We don't need a leader who stay silent for so long especially when his input is needed badly.
4. We don't need a leader who can't put his family(wife) under check so he makes all the decision. It is common knowledge, Patience Jonathan contributed to denting the image of the President.
5.We don't need leaders who appoint advisers and does not investigate the advice he is getting from them.
