Two Nigerian families were thrown into mourning on a day that should natural be one of celebration for them as unknown gunmen struck at the wedding ceremony of a former Councillor, Hon. Maduga Borikmen, last Saturday and shot him dead.
According to an eyewitness, the three assailants who arrived the scene in a golf car, alighted with AK47 riffles, went straight to the bridegroom and opened fire on him before zooming off.
The incident which took place in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, also had other casualties who were either hit by stray bullets or injured during the crisis. The wife (to be) was a sorry sight.
The state spokesman of the JTF, Lt.-Col. Hassan Mohammed, confirmed the sad incident. “The two dead bodies recovered from the scene have been deposited at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, while those injured are receiving treatment in the medical centre,” he added.
Until his death, 30-year-old Hon. Borikmen was a former Councillor from Shehuri North under Lamisula ward in the state capital and the current Chairman of Borno ex-councillors forum.
