A civilian, Ali Sadiq, who got married last week has been reportedly killed while three policemen were injured in a failed attempt by gunmen to bomb the Rijaya’zaki police station along BUK new campus, Kano.
The unknown gunmen who came on a motorbike at about midday hauled low calibre Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) at the station and attacked the security personnel on duty.
The gun battle that ensued between the attacker and police officers, according to eyewitness, lasted about 20 minutes claimed the life of Sadiq and left three policemen seriously injured.
Police in Kano confirmed the incident in a statement signed by the Police Commissioner, Idris Ibrahim and made available to Vanguard Friday afternoon.
The statement explained that “at about 12.00hrs, unknown gunmen attempted to attack Rijiyar’zaki police station but the policemen on duty repel the attack”.
Ibrahim revealed that “JTF were mobilized to the scene and cordoned the whole area with a view for aggressive search that will lead to clue for arrest”.
According to the police boss, three policemen sustained gunshot injuries during the gun battle, and were taken to the hospital for medical treatment”
