Rodney King has been found dead at the bottom of a swimming pool at the age of 47.
King was reportedly found by his fiancee Cynthia Kelley.
In 1991, a video emerged of him being brutally beaten by police officers in Los Angeles
On March 3, 1991, King was savagely beaten by members of the LAPD following a high-speed car chase.
The attack was secretly videotaped by a bystander and beamed around the world.
The following year, the officers involved in the beating were acquitted by a jury. The news sparked the LA riots in which more than 50 people died
King, a father-of-three, had fought an ongoing battle with alcoholism.
His fiancee Miss Kelley had been a juror in King's compensation case against the city of Los Angeles where he was awarded $3.8 million in damages.
