Some stories just help you believe nothing is impossible, 31-year old warder Frank Obi is doing time in prison not as a warder this time but as a prisoner he formerly guarded.
Justice Ibrahim Buba of a Federal High Court Lagos, on Friday, sentenced Obi to 10 years in prison for drug trafficking, the court lashed Obi saying that he was a shame to lawful authorities, and accordingly, sentenced him.
“It was indeed very shameful, that a prison official who knows the values of the prison system, and ought to be a custodian of the law, is now the perpetrator of crime.
“And following the guilty plea you entered, you are hereby convicted as charged, and accordingly, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, without option of fine,” the judge held.
The prosecutor, Mr Kalu Orji, told the court that the convict committed the offence on May 6, 2013, at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons.
Orji said the convict ran out of luck when the prison authorities apprehended him for sneaking in about 3.8 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, a.k.a Indian hemp, to some inmates, he told the court that the convict concealed the narcotic in an Indomie carton, to avoid suspicion.
