A 40 foot container exploded at the Lagos TinCan Island port yesterday evening causing huge fire that raged as at press time.
Sources told Saharareporters that the cause of the explosion had not been determined as firefighters were trying to contain the fires generated by the explosion.
The TinCan Port is located in Apapa Area of Lagos. It is about seven kilometres the west of the city centre of Lagos across Lagos Habour.
The port is the largest and busiest port in Nigeria.
The Roro Terminal was designated as part of the new TinCan Island Port in 1977.
The TinCan Port was built and opened in 1997. In 1991, the Nigerian Ports Authority was given responsibility for operating the port, and it made it a modern functioning port.
