It is hailed by estate agents as the 'ultimate status symbol'. But teacher Piers Casimir-Mrowczynski snapped up the tiny Mackenzie Island, near the isle of Islay, to be his final resting place.
Mr Casimir-Mrowczynski, 50, who is head of ICT at Beechwood Park boarding school in St Albans, Hertfordshire, purchased the uninhabited island for £55,000 this week.
He revealed he became captivated by the idea when he was diagnosed with cancer of the appendix three years ago. Now he and his wife Pauline, 50, plan to be buried there when they die.
The father-of-two, who is currently in 'remission', then plans to have the island kept in a trust 'till the end of time.'
This is despite them not being able to do much with the sea-girt patch of wildlife-rich wilderness, as the 42.7 acre rock is a site of special scientific interest and a special protection area.
It also lacks mains services, such as electricity, water and drainage services.
