Just last week some student of abrose ali university edo state, was reportedly drown and lost their live in the well,now hearing this again this week is very sad.
No fewer than six persons mysteriously lost their lives inside a 35-year old well at Marke village, a district of Rawaiyya, in Bungudu local government area of Zamfara State last Wednesday.
Those who died inside the well which served as the only source of water supply to Marke village included Sani Umar, 36, Hussaini Isa, 25, Ibrahim Isa, 27, Murtala Bala, 30, Kabiru Marke, 20, and Lawali Ibrahim, 27.
Eyewitness said that the deceased persons reportedly lost their lives in an attempt to reinforce the well from its basement to the top with concrete.
The deceased persons; all died inside the well, reportedly dug about 35 years ago,
Speaking with Saturday Vanguard yesterday at the scene of the incident, the District Head of Marke, Alhaji Muhammad Nababa said the first two people that entered the well for the commencement of the work could not be seen few minutes after they had entered prompting some people to entre the well to rescue them.
According to Nababa, ‘’In the process of rescuing the first two victims, one of the rescuers was also trapped and died few minutes later.
“In a bid to save the lives of other members of the rescue team, a pumping machine was brought in but unfortunately the death toll rose to six at the end.” he said.
It was further gathered that it took the intervention of the members of the state fire service to remove four of the dead bodies Thursday as they could not be removed until they started decomposing.
The state Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Sanusi Amiru, an Assistant Superintendent, confirmed the incident. on the telephone adding that the police have started investigations to unravel the cause of the death of the six people. “I can confirm the death of the six people, however investigation is on- going in the matter” he said.
