Edo Collectives Berated Over Oshiomhole’s Award

An Abuja-based legal practitioner, Mr. Shola Iyogun, on Friday, described the criticism of the Nigerian Union of Teachers’ (NUT) award to the Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, by a group known as Edo Collectives as “suspicious.”

The NUT had recently honoured Oshiomhole for his outstanding contributions to the development of the education sector and commitment to the welfare of teachers in the state at a ceremony held in Abuja.

The Edo Collectives, however, felt the award was unmerited, listing a number of reasons to justify its position in a newspaper advertorial. But Mr. Iyogun alleged that the Edo Collectives was an agent of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state which would not see anything good in the governor.

“Apart from the fact that it is an emergency political group loyal to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State crying more than the bereaved, I want to remind them that the man they are busy disparaging, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, has earned four awards in three weeks and not just the teachers’ award,” he said.

Besides, he stated that the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) working on transparency and acountability in the Niger-Delta had commended the Adams Oshiomhole-led administration in Edo State for the giant strides taken to enhance service delivery, social accountability and institutional buildings.
