Maiduguri - Police say two soldiers and a child are dead after members of a radical Muslim sect ambushed them in a city in northeast Nigeria.
Local police commissioner Simeon Midenda said that the attack had taken place in Maiduguri, the spiritual home for the sect known as Boko Haram.
Witnesses said the sect members shot at a military patrol in the city and one of the stray bullets killed a 9-year-old.
No one has been arrested over the killings.
Boko Haram is also being blamed for bombings and gunfights on November 4 that left more than 100 people dead in Damaturu, a town 130km west of Maiduguri.
The group has been carrying out a campaign of attacks for more than a year.
