
Forty houses were razed and many people sustained injuries in a communal feud at Agboughul village in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, the state police spokesman, ASP Alaribe Ejike has said.
Ejike, who confirmed the clash in a statement yesterday, said 40 houses were brunt while 18 suspects were arrested.
He said locally made revolver pistol with 3 rounds of live ammunition as well as other dangerous weapons were recovered and that the command has deployed its men to restore order in the area.
Investigations revealed that trouble started when youths of Ipusu extraction were allegedly attacked by their Ichongu counterparts when they were moulding blocks at the river Benue.
Daily Trust gathered that it took the intervention of the Ter Makurdi, Chief Sule Abenga, to calm the two parties following an emergency meeting with the community leaders.
Meanwhile, the state’s newly posted Commissioner of Police, Christopher Katso Kakwe, who until his posting was the Commissioner of Police in charge of welfare at the force’s headquarters, Abuja, has assumed duty.
