
No fewer than 5 persons died on Tuesday in a road crash that occurred at Okokhuo village along the busy Benin-Auchi road, even as 11 persons have so far died from kerosene explosions in Edo State.
The accident which involved two vehicles, a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Big Joe Motors and a Mercedes Benz truck took place in the afternoon.
According to the State Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. John Aniegi about 11 other persons who were injured in the crash are now receiving treatment in the state-owned Central Hospital Benin City.
He said the Toyota bus in an attempt to overtake a vehicle ahead of it ran into the stationery truck which lay abandoned on the highway and caused obstruction on the road.
He said the dead were for now deposited at the mortuary while the injured are responding to treatment.
Meanwhile, there are indications that 11 persons have so far died from kerosene explosions which took place in Edo State since the beginning of the month.
Dr. Eddy Ehikhamelor, who is Founder/Co-ordinator of Save Accident Victims Association of Nigeria (SAVAN) who disclosed this to newsmen, added that 11 of the victims had various degrees of injuries and was now on critical list at the hospital.
