Is Unemployment A Curse? Lagos Arrests 86 Jobless Nigerians

It is a known fact that Nigeria's government is not creating enough job to accommodate the army of graduates and non-graduates that are roaming the streets of major cities in search of a decent means of livelihood.

Despite this obvious shortcoming on the part of government, I hear that Lagos State Task Force on Environment and Special Offences has arrested 86 Nigerians in Ikoyi area of the state for not having means of livelihood and definite residential addresses.

It was learnt that many of these people were living in uncompleted buildings and makeshift shops until they will be able to rent decent houses.

Task Force Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman said, “They were arrested at Lugard Street, Bedwell Street, Glover Street and three different spots in Parkview Estate. Those arrested were those selling and living in shanties and those living in uncompleted buildings,” he added.

Funny enough, these people are even engaged in small businesses to keep body and soul together. So why arrest people are trying to help themselves?
