Man blows self up in Bauchi


A young man, carrying improvised explosive devices and a pistol, blew up his arm and leg up in Bauchi yesterday. The incident, it was learnt, took place near the Federal Government Girls’ College along Bauchi-Gombe Road. 

The incident was coming two weeks after a suicide bomber attacked a church in Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis in which at least 21 people were killed and more than 60 persons injured Bauchi State Police Commissioner Mohammed Ladan confirmed yesterday’s incident, but did not give further details.

 Our correspondent reports that the man was found alive after the incident. A security source told Daily Trust that the man during a preliminary investigation gave his name as Abdurrahman Abu Huzaifah and that he came to Bauchi from Maiduguri.

 “We recovered a pistol from him after the incident”, the source said, adding that only further investigation would reveal his mission and what he intended to do. An witness said the bomb exploded when the suspected suicide bomber dropped from a car that transported him to Bauchi, saying on of the man’s hand and leg were badly damaged. Police authorities denied speculations that the man was found with a cross round his neck and pledged to release his pictures for the general public to see.
