Army discovers arms factory in Nasarawa


Soldiers attached to the Guards Brigade yesterday said they have uncovered an illegal arms factory in Nasarawa State. The Director of Army Public Relations Brigadier General Mobolaji Koleoso, represented by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Yusuf, said at media conference in Abuja that some suspects have been arrested by soldiers on patrol duty in the outskirts of Lafia. 

 “On Saturday July 21 at about 10:12am, our troops deployed at Akwanga-forest arrested one Mr. Bello Bulus Agison and Mr. Iliya Noma in Akwanga for being in possession of one locally made single barrel pump action gun at our check point. 

They were on their way to Panda from Lafia. Preliminary investigation conducted by the unit revealed that the suspects bought the items from a local manufacturer in Takpa on the outskirt of Lafia. Further investigation of the locals led to the discovery of a gun making factory.” 

 Items recovered from the factory are 13 Dane guns, 2 locally made pistols, 1 welding machine, hand drilling machines, 3 bench devices. “Other items included 36 quantity of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and 39 quantity of 7.62mm special ammunition.” The owner of the factory, one Adogi Akolo has escaped and he has been declared wanted.
