Bomb Explosion Rocks Okene, Kogi State

A man has been arrested by security agents in connection with an explosion near a church at Obehira, Okene, Kogi. The Kogi State Police Command spokesman, Mr Ile Simon, who confirmed the arrest in Lokoja on Sunday, said that the suspect was driving in a car and heading towards the church when he was accosted by security men. 

 Ile said that it was while the suspect was still undergoing screening that a "big'' explosion occurred. He said that the security men deployed to the church then arrested the suspect before he could escape.

 The police spokesman said that no report of death was received but some people were being treated for shock and injuries from the stampede that followed the blast. A Car bomb has just gone off in the Obehira area of Okene, a town about an hour drive from the Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

 The blast occured near the MPC filling station in the town. The bomb, according to witnesses, was concealed in a parked black Rover car with registration number LKJ 919 AA. The car's boot is completely damaged.
