JTF Arrests Niger Delta's "Most Wanted" Ex-Militant


The Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta region, “Operation Pulo Shield,” has arrested the most wanted ex-militant suspected to be behind the bombing of pipelines and vandalization in the region. Seiyifa Gbereke a.k.a “General Cairo” was arrested in Yenagoa after the task force intelligence team tricked him out of his hideout in Warri.

 The JTF Media Coordinator, Lt.Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, who paraded Gbereke before journalists at the JTF Headquarters in Yenagoa on Friday said the ex-militant had been on the task force wanted list for about four months before he was finally arrested in the Bayelsa State capital. 

Nwachukwu disclosed that Cairo was the ring leader of an eight-man gang destroying pipelines across the region. “He led a gang of eight to destroy Agip pipelines and that of Shell around various communities in the region.

 The communities including – Azabgene and Tuomo are located around the Taylor Creek area. Giving insight on how the 25 -year old Gbereke was arrested, the JTF media coordinator, disclosed that he was lured from his hideout in Warri to Yenagoa where he was arrested.
