Immigration Service repatriates 50 illegal immigrants

The Nigeria Immigration Service has repatriated 50 illegal immigrants from Ondo State this year, the Comptroller of Immigration in the state, Mr Towanu Humdeyin, has said.

Humudeyin disclosed this on Thursday in Akure while briefing newsmen after decorating newly promoted officers and men of the command with their new ranks. He said that those repatriated included nationals of Chad, Cameroon, Ghana and Togo.

Others were nationals of Belarus, Lebanon and Syria. The Comptroller said that foreigners residing in the state would not be allowed to vote during the October gubernatorial election.

“Let me assure you that no alien will be allowed to vote, notwithstanding how long he has stayed in the state, unless such alien has nationalised and has a voter’s card.

“The men of the service will monitor the election to ensure that only Nigerians are allowed to vote,” he said.

Humudeyin said the command had the names of all foreigners living in Ondo State who were doing legitimate business. He warned that any illegal alien apprehended trying to cast his vote would be deported.

He appealed to the people of the state to “ensure that the poll is peaceful and violent-free.” The Immigration boss also appealed to the people to conduct themselves in an orderly manner before, during and after the election. (NAN)
