Don’t submit names for elections-PDP


THE national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, warned governors elected on the platform of the party, state executive chairmen and all its public officers against submitting names of persons for any election into public offices.

According to the National Working Committee, NWC, members, through a statement signed, yesterday, by the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, all state governors, zonal officers as well as state chairmen and secretaries must comply with Section 50 of the party’s Constitution, 2012 as amended.

Metuh said: ”The national headquarters of the party has the sole authority and responsibility of conveying the names of PDP candidates for all elections to the appropriate electoral bodies.”

On the submission of names for election, Metuh referred to a circular letter PDP/NC/NWC/SG/ZO/C.S/10/12 dated October 18, 2012 signed by the National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and thereby directed the officials to comply with contents of the circular.
The secular stated: “It is to be noted that Section 50 (1) of the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, 2012 (as amended) vests the power for the formulation of guidelines and regulations for the nomination of candidates for election into public office at all levels on the national headquarters of our great party.

“So also is the authority for resolving all disputes relating to the choice of candidates for the party for any election and for conveying to INEC or any other authority to whom it may concern, and the names of candidates for the party in any elective public office in the Federation.”

Metuh, quoting the circular, stated that the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court had authenticated and reaffirmed the provisions of the party’s constitution through judgments.

Also, yesterday, the NWC approved the appointment of Hon. Mohammed Wakil as the  acting National Vice Chairman, North-East in place of Alhaji Girigiri Lawal who was recently suspended.
