The National Agency for Food and Drug
Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed a pharmaceutical
distribution outlet, ANYIWEST Pharmacy, in Lagos and arrested its
manager for allegedly stocking, selling and dispensing fake, banned and
expired drugs.
NAFDAC’s spokesman, Anslem Okonkwor, told Daily Trust that the
development was sequel to a petition by some people. The regulatory
officers of the agency who carried out the operation said apart from the
fake drugs, ANYIWEST Pharmacy, which is situated at No 1, Meiran Road,
Ojokoro in Lagos, had Analgin injection which was banned alongside
Tagaprox injection, Ferotone and Flu capsules.
According to the NAFDAC Director of
Enforcement, Mr. Garba Macdonald, the agency’s officials acted to
prevent the pharmacy from further endangering the lives of citizens.
While reiterating the agency’s preparedness to the fight against fake
drugs, he bemoaned the involvement of some pharmacists in the crime.
