The
Imo state Police command yesterday rescued two robbers and two corpses
of suspected robbers killed by an angry mob at Spibat road
Amakohia/Akwaskuma in Owerri North LGA.
Police detachment from Special Anti-robbery squad of the state command
intercepted the robbers following a distress call that two armed
suspects were about to be lynched by an angry mob.
Parading the suspects before newsmen at
the command headquarters Owerri yesterday, the Police Public Relation
Officer (PPRO) Vitalis Onug said that the squad on arrival met the two
armed robbers with loaded double barrel shot gun and other dangerous
weapons.
He said that they were already tied down with two motorcycle tires hanged on them ready to be set ablaze.The squad immediately rescued the
suspected robbers at the point of death as a result of machetes cuts
dealt on them by the angry mobs saying two of the robbers died on the
way to hospital.
The suspects according to the PPRO were alleged to have stolen laptops, handsets etc.
He said that one of the suspects, simply
identified as Buchi from Akpodim in Mbaise LGA, Imo state managed to
describe the robbers’ hideout before he died.
