Katsina State Government is to spend N200million on the sponsorship of 25 students studying for various degree courses at Arab Academy in Alexandria, Egypt.
State Governor, Ibrahim Shema disclosed this at a farewell address to the students.
He urged the students to be good ambassadors of the state and the country in general during their stay in Egypt.
Shema charged them to make good use of the opportunity they got by excelling in their academic pursuits, just as he drew the students’ attention to the need to select courses that would be life supporting while in Egypt adding that government would spend N10 million on each candidate.
According to the governor, Naval Architecture, Marine Survey and Ship Engineering which are highly marketable all over the world should be chosen for study.
He revealed that the students were selected on merit from all the 34 local government areas of the state.
The governor recalled that the administration had been targeting critical areas of need in the society in its foreign scholarship scheme.
Shema further said that 40 students had left the state to Jordan to pursue various courses, while some were currently reading different courses in Sudan and the USA.
He reiterated the determination of his administration to continue to give education special attention.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Malam Halilu Bakori, said the students would be placed, based on their qualification and competence, pointing out that it was only Katsina State that enrolled its students at the Marine Academy in Egypt out of the 100 slots allocated to the 36 states of the federation.
A spokesman for the parents and a Director at the Ministry of Education, Malam Sagir Ibrahim, assured that the students would be good ambassadors of the state and the country while in Egypt.
