Nigerian Senator, Arrested For Armed Robbery

The police in Zamfara State has arrested Senator Yariman Bakura and 29 others at a Zamfara High Court over alleged conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Counsel to the police, Mr Oloye Torugbene, sought the leave of the court, pursuant to the Criminal Procedure, to prosecute the case.

He told the court that all relevant documents, including affidavits, exhibits, names and addresses of accused persons, as well as written statements of witnesses and the accused persons, had been submitted to the court.

He therefore urged the court to proffer a criminal charge based on the evidence provided for prosecution.

He said already, the accused persons who had been served arraignment notice, were released through police administrative bail and pleaded with the court to fix a date for hearing.

In her ruling on the application, the judge, who is also the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kulu Aliyu, said the court was competent to handle the case.

Aliyu urged the prosecutor to serve the accused persons with all the relevant documents and fixed 13 January 2014 for hearing.

Rep. Ibrahim Shehu, representing Gusau/Tsafe constituency, had in June alleged that some people mobilised some thugs to kill him.

He alleged that during the incident, the attackers removed large sum of money from his vehicle.

He, however, reported the case to the Inspector-General of Police, who set up an investigation that led to the court case.

WICKED : How Nigerians Are Being Discriminated in South African Prisons

The Nigerian House Of Representatives has condemned the ill-treatment and discrimination against Nigerians living in South Africa, stressing that over 409 convicts were currently serving jail terms there.

Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewam, the Chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora, disclosed this in a statement issued after the committee’s visit to two prisons in South Africa.

She described the increasing number of Nigerians in foreign prisons as “ridiculously embarrassing.”

The representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency in Lagos State, Dabiri-Erewa, who visited the prisons alongside two members of the committee, Ajibola Famurewa and Umaru Shidanfi, consular officers of the Nigerian Embassy and executives of the Nigerian Union in South Africa, disclosed that over 400,000 Nigerians were currently living in South Africa.

During her interaction with some inmates, the lawmaker explained that some of them confessed that they had been denied their freedom, despite completing their jail terms.

“The inmates complained of extreme discrimination by the prison authorities in South Africa.

The law enforcement officers always maltreat citizens of Nigeria for unjustifiable reasons. Sometimes, the authorities tore into pieces their Nigerian passports among several other allegations and refused to grant them bail, while others from other countries that committed similar bailable offence were granted bail.”

Teacher Beats 4-Year-Old To D*ath After Alleged S*xual Assault

Police in Akure, Ondo State, are working tirelessly to unravel the circumstances that surrounded the death of a 4-year-old pupil of Falaye Memorial Nursery and Primary School located at Fanibi area, Elizabeth Wanogho, after her parents alleged she was sexually assaulted by one of her teachers.

However, the school authorities claimed that little Elizabeth was neither assaulted nor beaten, and accused her father of being complacent over her treatment after she fell sick.

The father of the girl,Ovie alleged that his daughter was beaten to death because she reported to him that her teacher sexually assaulted her and pleaded that justice be done by the police and the matter should not be swept under the carpet.

The 45-year- old Civil Engineer with HFP construction company in Bauchi who was transferred to Ondo State three months ago said he suspected foul play by the school proprietor and police.

His story

Narrating his ordeal to Crime Guard, Ovie alleged that his second daughter was defiled and strangled by her teacher who is also the son of the school proprietor, Mr Kola Alade. According to him, “One afternoon, my daughter returned from school and I overheard her telling her mother that her new uncle put his hand in her private part and touched her bum bum. Before I could come out of my room, her mother brought her to me and she repeated it.

“I took her to the school the following day to report to the proprietor, Mr Kola Alade who summoned the teacher and Elizabeth repeated what she said at home. The teacher, Alade then said in Yoruba’ mo kan ba sere ni’ meaning 7(I was just playing with her). I then warned him seriously that such should not repeat itself again.

“The proprietor promised that such will never happen again. My daughter returned that day to report to me that because I came to warn her uncle, he pressed her neck saying that ‘your parents are not here, I will deal with you.’ She made me know that the teacher is the proprietor’s son. She complained of neck pains and I went to a nearby chemist and bought the prescribed drugs and administered it on her, only for her neck to swell overnight and I rushed her to the hospital that night.

“On my way, I met the school proprietor driving out. I explained my plight to him but he said my wife and I should wait for him. We waited but he never returned before I got help from another neighbour who took us to the Military Hospital at the barracks where Elizabeth was placed on drips and antibiotics to just reduce the swollen neck but to no avail.

“All along, I was concerned with my daughter’s recovery but with all the treatment, she was not responding to treatment and each time she asked for food, she could not swallow when the food was brought to her. It was after we spent few days at the hospital that the soldiers asked about the proprietor and I took them to the school and the proprietor claimed that he was not aware of what happened.

He also disclosed that the teacher who assaulted my daughter is his son and an undergraduate stating that he asked him to help retain the class because some of his teachers had left and he never knew it will lead to this. After this, he also insisted that he will only produce his son if I will not be around because he was afraid of how I will react.

And the girl died.

“We were later referred to Mother and Child Hospital, Akure, where I was asked to buy blood but because I do not have money, I volunteered to donate my blood and two pints was taken from me to just save my daughter’s life. It was then that I received a call from the police that the proprietor was negotiating the release of his son at the Police station. When I rushed to the station to know whether it was true,I received another call to rush back to the hospital.

“When I got to Mother and Child hospital I saw my daughter and she stretched her hands to me and called me, ‘Daddy! Daddy!’ As soon as I moved to her and carried her, she breathed her last.I thought it was a joke. I raised her hand, it dropped and I realized she was gone. (After this, Ovie betrayed emotions and cried like a baby.) The doctor’s report revealed that something struck her vaginal and strangled her on the neck. She is in the mortuary now and what I want is justice. I want fellow Nigerians to help me, I have three kids and have lost one. She is my carbon copy, I gave her my blood to keep her but she has left me.”

School reacts

Reacting to the allegations on behalf of the school management, the Proprietor, Mr Kola Alade denied all the allegations by the father of the deceased. He explained that Elizabeth was not assaulted as claimed by her father. “Ovie never came to my school as claimed, it was the mother of the deceased that came to the school with her children to complain and I summoned my Head mistress and the teacher, Adebayo who in turn denied that anything of such happened.

“When the girl was in the hospital, I told my Headmistress to go and visit her and we even advised the father to take the child to Mother and Child hospital but he preferred that his child be taken to the Military Hospital. Her father was complacent on the treatment of his child which resulted to the death of the girl, he was reluctant all along as he did not respond when he was called to donate blood for his daughter which was late before he eventually did.

“Her father simply wants to tarnish the image of my school as all he claimed are untrue. We have urged him to go and let an autopsy be carried out on the girl but he has been avoiding that because when we know the cause of death, we will be able to know what really happened to the girl.” In her reaction, the Headmistress, Tinuola Ajimajasan said Elizabeth was not beaten or assaulted as claimed, and the school was not aware that she was sick as the little girl in question is in Kindergarten class.

In his reaction, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) ASP, Wole Ogodo said the suspect, Mr Adebayo Alade has been apprehended and is presently in detention at the State Criminal Investigations Department,SCID, Akure. Ogodo said the post mortem will reveal the cause of death. “We will need an expert to do the autopsy on the deceased as the police cannot rely on any hospital to come to conclusion.” He therefore pleaded for patience on the part of all concerned.

HAPPY: Edo State PDP To Give Poor Widow Abused by Gov. Oshiomhole N250,000

Well not everyone accepted his apology, you all said an apology wasn't enough at all, most of you said an apology would not restore her goods but I guess this money that's going to be giving to her by PDP will go a long away in doing that.

The abused widow in the video has been invited to PDP secretariat in Benin city to collect 250,000 naira in order to relieve her of pain.

Here is an official letter from Edo state Peoples Democratic Party:

PDP ENDOWMENT FUND FOR OPPRESSED WIDOW

Edo PDP watched with consternation Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s brutal, inhuman and merciless treatment of a widow street-trader whose wares he ordered seized and who he unfeelingly told to ‘…go and die’ even as she knelt down in fervent protestations and appeals to his pity on a helpless widow.

The governor’s actions are appalling, insensate, disgraceful, indecent, cruel and below board. It is clear that he does not care much about the well being of the people as he pretentiously avowed. Our hearts go to that hapless widow in this her time of travails and through her, to other widows who have been oppressed by the unfriendly policies of the administration in Edo State.

The PDP, Edo State will not let any Edo person ‘to go and die’ if it can help it, especially not hardworking people like that widow who are engaged in lawful enterprises that are, in themselves, not easy to carry on.

To this end, our party has instituted an endowment fund for all widows and oppressed people in the state and by this release, we invite the widow captured in the video of the encounter with Governor Oshiomhole to come to the PDP Secretariat on No. 70, Sapele Road, at 11am on Tuesday December 3, 2013 to receive a first-installment sum of N250,000.00 to cushion the pain, trauma and loss occasioned by her mistreatment and the seizure of the items she sells.

Governance is about the people and as a responsible National Institution, Edo PDP cannot be unconcerned about the wrong treatment of indigenes of the state to whom the present administration promised heaven just to win their votes. We will continue to stand in the gap to ensure that Edo people are deservedly fairly treatment

If Governor Oshiomhole believes that Edo People sinned by voting him into office, let him remember that he will account for his actions, if not to the people because he apparently does not think much of them, but to God Almighty in the short or long run.

We thank all those who have been humanely concerned about the plight of the widow and have stood out vehemently against the crying shame that was the insensitive action of a governor who seems bent on repaying electoral favor with ingratitude.

Signed.
Chief Dan Osi Orbih
Chairman, PDP
Edo State.

SAD: Woman Stabs Abusive Husband To D*ath Over Fried Rice Argument

A new mother has found herself in trouble after she accidentally stabbed her “trouble maker” husband to d*ath after a food related argument.

Our men have to keep in mind that anger management and control is very important in any relationship. If you can’t control your anger, please put marriage aside for now.

And for women, please be careful to watch out for key signs of violence in the guy you’re dating and don’t marry a violent or abusive man.

If you mistakenly married an abusive man, learn to respond to him when he is angry and if you can’t handle the situation, pack your things and leave the house because a broken marriage is better than a wasted life.

To cut this long story short, 33-year-old Biola Gbadamosi, the mother of a 3-month-old baby has been arrested after killing her husband in anger.

Biola murdered her hubby, one Mr Jamiu at their rented house in Ikorodu area of Lagos State on the 7th of September 2013.

According to police report, angry Biola stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife during an argument over Fried rice.

Police noted that Jamiu, a Vehicle Inspection Officer had history of domestic violence before his death.

“Jamiu and I dated for four years, but when I got pregnant this year, we did introduction and I started living with him in Idi Iroko, Ikorodu. However, when I was three months pregnant, he started beating me. “Most times, he takes alcoholic drink and he comes back home drunk and starts beating me for flimsy reasons. He even had a kidney ailment.

“One day, he came home drunk, accused me of infidelity and started beating me. He said he had been told that I was going to poison his food, but I continued to endure. I, however, reported the beatings to his mother and siblings.”

The suspect said after being delivered of a baby in August, she usually went to her family’s house in Somolu from where she would take her baby for post-natal.

“While I was about leaving my parents’ home on September 7, 2013, my husband called to say that he was broke and I should make money available for the weekend. When I got home, I started cooking fried rice but my husband, who was drunk, said he did not like it. I jokingly called him a bush man and an argument ensued.

“While we were arguing, a neighbour, who sells drinks, came into our flat to collect money that we owed her. I was grating carrots with a knife when my husband slapped me and said I must leave his house that night.

“I used the knife I was holding to strike him on the thigh and he started bleeding profusely. The neigbours and I took him to a hospital. At the hospital, I was told that my husband’s injury was not deep, so neighbours said I should take my baby home.”

The next morning, she was told that her husband has passed away at midnight.

She was promptly arrested by officials from Owutu Police station after the case was reported.

The 33-year-old OND degree holder from Ibadan Poly insisted she killed her husband by mistake. She pleaded for mercy for the sake of her baby.

“My little baby, Oluwaseyifunmi, is with my husband’s family and I fear that my child will never get to know me if I am sent to prison. My br*asts are still filled with milk and no baby to suckle them.”

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo on Friday apologised for the comments he made to a widow in Benin during an inspection tour on Mission Road, in the state capital, a fortnight ago.

Oshiomhole said that he now regretted the comments which had become the subject of discourse in the social media.

The Governor, however, noted that he made the comments in anger, Oshiomhole’s apology was made when the leadership of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria, paid him a courtesy visit in Benin.

He noted that though the challenge of modern times had bestowed on the shoulders of some women and single mothers the status of bread winners of their homes, such should not be used as an accuse to flout the laws.

Despite all the controversy surrounding the car scandal, the three man committe constituted by President Goodluck Jonathan to look into the N255 million armoured Beamer procured by the NCAA for the Aviation Minister Stella oduah has submitted their reports to their Oga at the top.
RECOMMENDATION The Minister should be given an Executive caution by Mr President.
This is a simple way of saying she has been discharged and acquitted of all corruption charges.I know there was something called execution pardon but didn't know there was anything like executive caution.
It is clear that the reasons she acts without following due process or following the rule of law is because she knows she can get away with anything. This is why some people will always behave like they are bigger than the law.

DUMB?: Man Dr*wns Trying To Win Swimming Bet

Well like Nigerians will say "You no fit do pass your power", I believe in that statement so much cause its truth, don't force yourself to do something you naturally can't because it definitely wont end well.

25-year-old man, Toheeb Jimoh, has drowned in a Lagos river while reportedly swimming to win a bet, he had allegedly bragged that he could swim the Lagos Lagoon from a particular point to the shore on Saturday evening.

It was discovered that when some people challenged his claim, he had allegedly dared them to place a bet. After the bet was placed, he reportedly went on a boat to the point and jumped into the lagoon hoping to swim to the shore.

Friends of the dec-ased, who had followed him on a boat, were said to have fled the scene after he did not make it out of the water.

The incident, which occurred at Aiyedun Street, Bariga, was said to have caused commotion among residents who trooped to the site, hoping to save his life.

The c-rpse of Jimoh was said to have been recovered around 7pm same day and buried beside the water around 12am in line with the traditions.

A resident on the street, Tiamiyu Abdullateef, said the dec-ased was highly pious, He said Jimoh had earlier gone on a boat to “play a game with his friends”, and returned without any incident.

Abdullateef, however, said the deceased merely went to the lagoon to defecate after he became pressed.

“Then, he decided to swim and wash his body. His brother, Wale, waited at the shore. When he was swimming back, he just lost breath, and was exhausted. His brother saw him drowning but did not suspect that anything was wrong until it was too late.”

The officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not permitted to speak for the police, said, “It was not reported here, and there is little we can do although we heard of it,”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said she was in a conference and promised to call back

Angola reportedly bans Islam, destroys mosques

According to several Angolan newspapers, Angola has become the first country in the world to ban Islam and Muslims, taking first measures by destroying mosques in the country.
“The process of legalization of Islam has not been approved by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, their mosques would be closed until further notice,” Rosa Cruz e Silva, the Angolan Minister of Culture, was quoted by Agence Ecofin on Friday, November 22.

Silva comments were given during her visit last Tuesday to the 6th Commission of the National Assembly.

She asserted that the decision was the latest is a series of efforts to ban ‘illegal’ religious sects.

According to the minister, the action was necessary to fight relentlessly against the emergence of congregations whose worshipping is contradicting with the customs of the Angolan culture.

Same as Islam, other faiths which were not legalized will face closure of their houses of worship.

“All sects on the list published by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in the Angolan newspaper ‘Jornal de Angola’ are prohibited to conduct worship, so they should keep their doors closed," she was quoted by Cameroon Voice‏.

"In addition, we also have a long list of more than a thousand legalization applications,” she added.

Lebanese Arrested For Defiling Underage Girls in Ondo State

Some people believe because they aren't Nigerian they can go away with certain crimes well I guess this is a message to people who take advantage of  Nigerians in their own country.

A 32-year-old Lebanese, Jack Sankary, whose hobby is to have carnal knowledge of under-aged girls in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has been caught by detectives. Also middle aged woman, Chinwe Chinasa, has been arrested for allegedly traff-cking six young girls to Libya for prostitution.

His recruiter, Patience Godwin, is currently undergoing interrogation at the state CID.

It was gathered that Patience was arrested at her hideout in Odopetu area of Akure metropolis and one 14-year-old girl about to be taken to the Lebanese rescued.

Speaking on the woman who traff-cks young girls to Libya for prostitution, the state Police command said she was arrested at the Olufoam area of Federal Housing Estate, Shagari Village in Akure following intelligence reports.

The command image maker, Wole Ogodo, said after the raid on the hideout, it was discovered that the six young girls had been prepared for the journey to Libya.

Ogodo said part of the preparation was shaving of their hairs and cutting of their nails.
He assured that investigation was ongoing to apprehend all her collaborators.

Ogodo said that some Nigerian international passports, cheque books of different banks and fake Naira notes were recovered from the suspected tr-fficker’s house. Speaking while she was paraded by the police, Chinasa said she picked four of the girls from a hotel in Asaba, Delta State.

We were virgins
Some of the girls confirmed that the suspect deceived their parents that she was going to help them look for jobs and not prostitution.

They alleged that they were virgins before they were lured into the illicit business by the suspect.
The girls were said to have pleaded that the police should temper justice with mercy since they were deceived into the trade by the suspect.

According to Ogodo  the suspects will be charged to court after completion of investigation

AWFUL: One in Every 25 Nigerian Women Di*s of Cancer – Expert

The most painful thing about this news is not the fact one woman out 25 di-s of cancer but the fact that the government would never do anything about this, its very sad that they won't help the situation, we've got very poor medical facilities and no one wants to improve them.

The Medical Director, Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, Dr Femi Olaleye, on Friday said breast cancer k-lled one in every 25 Nigerian women.

He made this known on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. “The incidence of breast cancer is one in 25, but because we don’t screen our population, it’s actually a death sentence."

In other parts of the world, once you’re a woman, that one in 25 is picked up early, procedures are done to quickly stop that cancer from k-lling her. “So, it doesn’t k-ll as much as it is k-lling here.”

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared breast cancer as the number one cancer scourge afflicting human beings.WHO says, “One in eight women are at risk of having breast cancer in their lifetime, (a diagnosis of breast cancer is made every other minute)."

Here in Nigeria, most of the diagnoses are made when it is too late, thereby leading to several needless and painful deaths of our beloved moms, sisters, aunts, friends, colleagues. “Breast cancer is currently the most common cancer in Nigeria."

One or two in every 25 Nigerian women are at risk of breast cancer, but higher risks exist for women who are older than 45, older than 30 at birth of their first child, and women with family history."

Olaleye said that breast and cervix cancers were the two most common cancers that affect women. He urged women to go for breast and cervix cancer screening every year to prevent untimely deaths.

Olaleye said that the screening was just a five to 10 minutes procedure that medical practitioners in the primary healthcare centres could be trained to do.

Question is will the government listen, we they train the medical practitioners, May Lord God help us.

HEARTLESS: I Only Kill Those Who Deserve D*ath – Suspect

No man has the power or authority over anyone's life in other words no man should k-ll his fellow being for any reason but some people feel the need to go against this, the only time where k-lling is quite understandable is during wars which also is a bad thing in some cases.

A university dropout, Sodiq Jimoh, has told operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Lagos that he is not an armed robber, but a k-ller.

Jimoh, a 28-year-old indigene of Lagos State, revealed that he was a member of Eiye Confraternity and was responsible for the murder of many rival c-lt members.

According to Police authorities, the suspect, who is a trader at the Alaba International Market, was usually hired on contract by traders in the market to intimidate or k-ll rivals.

The suspect and others at large were said to have k-lled at least five people in Alaba area of the state in May.

It was learnt that after the k-llings, the Officer in charge of SARS, Abba Kyari, began an investigation and Jimoh was arrested along with his friend, Ibrahim Oshilomo. After a search of Jimoh’s home, two masks and guns were found.

Jimoh, said, “I am not an armed robber, I am just a member of Eiye cult. During the market election, one of the contestants gave us N1m to flush out his opponent’s supporters.

“On May 22, 2013, we knew that Black Axe (Aiye) members had also been paid to support an opponent. So we knew there would be a fight. I got 15 of my boys and Aiye people attacked us first. But the Eiye boys were able to gun them down.

“Four of them, Chibuzor, Tony, Ayanga and Chinedu; di-d on the spot. I did not pity them because it was self-defence. As cultists, we only k-ll those who deserve d*ath and those guys were also evil.”

What a thing to say, this is just the height of being heartless.

Wife escaped being used for money ritual by husband

A housewife, Caroline Omoseebi, testified before an  Alakuko Customary Court that her husband, Ayemisan, wanted to use her for money ritual. According to her, the husband took her pants to a herbalist in pursuit of the money ritual and also joined a secret cult. Caroline said they got married 44 years ago, and have seven grown up children. She said they lived in harmony until some years ago when their relationship went  sour.

“He said he wanted to be rich at all costs. That is the reason he joined a secret cult. He actually took my pants to a herbalist in his attempt to get rich quick”, the petitioner told the court. In his defence, the husband said there was  no trouble between him and the wife until she joined a club of bad friends and became uncontrollable. The respondent said  he was not ready for divorce and pledged to change his character. The court president, Mr. Godwin Awosola, said the court could not force Ayemisan on the wife and, while adjourning the case, warned the couple to maintain peace.

Governors that engage in election malpractice are under performing governors. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday virtually accused Imo Governor, Rochas Okorocha of importing fake Election Observers to Anambra State. Jega also fixed November 30, for the conduct of supplementary governorship election in Anambra State.
About 48hrs to the Anambra Governorship election, the Imo State Police Command had arrested 181 persons suspected to be fake election observers going to Anambra State for the Governorship election  held on Saturday, 16 November 2013.
Commenting , on the arrest of some APC members who claimed to be observers for the polls, Jega said, “We were very strict as we accredited only those who applied within the time frame. In previous elections we were very thorough as we had to ask for the photographs of the applicants. For the Anambra State election, given the complaints we had received we insisted that the would-be monitors must be in Awka to get their accreditation.

Its four years already since boko Haram emergence in Northern Nigeria and since that time, the North has never remained the same again. Villagers who trekked nearly 100 kilometers to Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, said 30 Islamic extremists bearing guns and explosives rode into Sandiya village on Thursday in all-terrain vehicles and on motorbikes. The news came when survivors arrived Saturday since cell phone service has been cut by the military.
Reports of similar attacks in neighboring Yobe state could not be confirmed immediately. The area was tense on Sunday with increased military checkpoints and patrols.

SHOCK:Over 1,000 Nigerians Without Residency Permit Being Held In a Warehouse In Saudi Arabia

This comes as a shock!!! We have alot of media houses in Nigeria who claims to be so connected and why the hell will BBC be the first to inform us of  sensitive news like this. If this is true, it is so sad this government doesn't care about its citizens.

They might say 1000 is just a small number when the whole country is facing bigger problems but the truth is, if we don't develop the mentality where we feel the pain of only one Nigerian in trouble, then we will never solve the problems of this great country.
Come to think of it, Nigerians travelling abroad are suffering but they prefer to enjoy the sufferings abroad than to stay in a country where nobody cares, only the rich survives the hussle,,,

WOW: Governor Fashola Bans Skating On Main Roads

This is a really bad news for people who skate a lot on roads, I guess some of you are already flaring cause of the news but read up and try finding reason in what he said.

“They cannot skate on the highways. It is a violation of the traffic law 2010. I implore all parents to call their children and their wards to order because any child found skating on the highway will be arrested and will be brought to justice. It must stop today. Skating on the highways has to stop now. The danger is too much and it is the responsibility of the government to safe lives,”

The Governor said he noticed that the youths had also taken to skating because the road is safe, saying government was not going to discourage them but that they should do that in designated places like recreation centres, stadia and others.

Honestly I think its a good move because skating on these roads can be very risky at times.  Share your views....

After Bribery Scandal, Fashola Reiterates "LASTMA Not To Arrest Motorists"

It seems LASTMA has deviated from the primary responsibility it was set up for hence Fashola has reiterated what he expects from the body who has been rocked with one controversy or the other recently.
Lagos State Governor Baba-tunde Fashola yesterday said the primary responsibility of Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) is to ensure free flow of traffic and not to arrest motorists.
The governor’s statement came barely a week after a junior LASTMA official was caught demanding N8, 000 bribe from a motorist who contravened traffic rules.
The governor re-empha-sized the primary duty of  LASTMA operatives at the induction of new Special Traffic Mayor (STM) and interactive session of mayors and LASTMA personnel.
He said if in arresting those who contravened traffic rules and regulations in the state, a LASTMA official will create traffic, it is better he allows the offender to go.
“I say this not because I don’t want law breakers to be brought to justice but because we need to keep traffic in Lagos moving at all times,” he said.
On the bribery allegation against a LASTMA official, Governor Fashola saluted the courage of the motorist that recorded the event, adding that by exposing the bad eggs in the agency and other government ministries, departments and parastatals, corruption will be reduced drastically in the country.
“That LASTMA fellow, we learnt is on the run. We have declared him wanted and I can assure you that we will get him. He will have his day in court and we will get him out of the system,” he said.

"He Who Closes A School Door Opens A Prison" , CHURCH TELLS ASUU, FG

The prolonged strike action is a sign of the lack of sensitivity of the government to the yearnings of his own people. The government seems to look at ASUU demands as too boogus, hence its lack of interest in yielding 100% to the demands.
The Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) has called on the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end the on-going strike.
At its 83rd general church council meeting at COCIN headquarters in Jos, Plateau State yesterday, president of the church, Dr Soja Joseph Bewarang asked both the Federal Government and ASUU to remember that, “he who closes a school door opens a prison”.
The Church of Christ in all Nations, called Church of Christ in Nigeria until recently, is the predominant church in Plateau State and has branches in most states of Nigeria.

Bulletproof Cars: Panel Submit Result, Recommend 3-year Jail Term For Oduah

The House Committee on Aviation which investigated the purchase of two armoured BMW cars for the aviation minister, Stella Oduah at the rate of N255m has submitted its report.

Oduah should face the consequence of spending public money on unbudgeted expenditure such as the purchase of the cars: a three-year jail term and a fine of N100, 000. These are
part of
recommendations of the report of the House Committee on Aviation.

“That the contract for the purchase of the cars was not listed in the budget by NCAA, the agency compelled by the minister to make the purchase, and was
not listed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

“That spending public funds on unbudgeted projects attracts three years in jail and a fine of N100, 000 as stipulated by the ICPC Act.”

“The minister’s poor supervisory role led NCAA into unilaterally appropriating funds against next year’s budget. The above is an indirect contempt of parliament, even so that the president and commander-in-chief has not submitted to the National Assembly the 2014 Appropriation Bill.”

“The minister has not addressed why the NCAA paid a price tag that auto dealers in the US and UK described as ‘a rip-off’. It is a fact that each of the BMW cars should cost no more than $167,000 which is approximately N36 million.

“Aviation minister approved NCAA’s request to procure 55 operational vehicles valued at N564.665 million; there is no evidence to show that the Hon. Minister presented NCAA’s request to FEC for its approval. Further, the attempt to procure now and pay later is against the extant laws of the federation.”

They therefore recommended that “the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should review the continued engagement of the Hon. Minister for Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, having contravened the 2013 appropriation and approved revised thresholds by exceeding her approval limit of N100m with the purchase of 54 vehicles valued at N643m”.

On the finding of the panel that the cars allegedly purchased were different from the ones they inspected, the legislators recommended that the “Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other relevant anti-corruption agencies further investigate the discrepancies and the chassis number DW68032 of the vehicles on the one reported to be delivered and the one inspected by the committee, and, if found wanting, prosecute all persons/institutions involved in the transaction”.

The report also asks the company from which the cars were purchased, Coscharis Nigeria Limited, to pay the value of the waiver for the two BMW armoured cars, having been found to have lied about the federal government giving it waiver on the cars.

It states: “Coscharis Nigeria Limited should be investigated on the issue of waiver, source and exact cost of the two (2) BMW vehicles supplied to NCAA. It should be made to pay the waiver value into the treasury account.

“Coscharis Motors Limited claimed that the Federal Ministry of Finance granted it import duty, VAT, ETLS, CISS and port charges waiver to import two (2) bulletproof BMW armoured cars. This claim is false.”

The lawmakers also found that there were: “No copies of advertisements or solicitations for bids published in at least 2 national newspapers and the website of NCAA as well as any procurement journal. No copies of bids submissions registers and duplicate copies of receipts issued to bidders on submission bids. No minutes of public bidding for technical and financial proposals, including list of CSOs and professional observers. No copies of bids evaluation by the sub-technical committees of the Tenders Board, and copies of minutes of meetings of the Tenders Board approving the winning bidder.”
