I Don’t Care About What Obasanjo Says About Me- Atiku
There is no end in sight to the feud between Former President Olusegun Obasamjo and his vice, Atiku Abubakar.Atiku Abubakar told Punch that he doesn’t care about what Olusegun Obasanjo says about him.
Read excerpt from the interview below:
Your former boss, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, said so many not-too-complimentary things about you in his latest book, ‘My Watch’. Have you both met since then?
“You know, really, I don’t give a damn (about) what
Obasanjo says about me.”
When asked about if former President Obasanjo scuttled the best chance he ever had to lead this country as president, Atiku replied saying “I don’t think so. How? When?” On Obasanjo scuttling his political career
As far as I am concerned, Obasanjo may believe that he scuttled my presidential ambition, but I believe it is about God. If God says I will be president, I will be president; if He says I will not be president, I will not be president. Let’s forget about Obasanjo.
On contesting for president again
It is quite too early for such a question. We are in a transition process. We have not even formed the next government. You are asking me whether I will like to run again or not. I think it is just too early. My concern is to make sure that the transition process is smooth and complete and a new government is formed because it is the party that I belong to that is coming in. My dream for Nigeria is always that we can, from time to time, change government so that there can be competition among parties and that competition will bring about, perhaps more development and progress in the country. I think that is my most important concern now rather than thinking of whether I’m going to run again or not.
On meeting President Goodluck Jonathan before the general elections
I have told Nigerians what transpired between the two of us. He wanted me to come back to the PDP and I said I was not coming back.

President Jonathan Lacks The Experience To Lead Nigeria - Atiku Abubakar Blast
Former Vice President and Atiku Abubakar, who is also APC's presidential aspirant said in an interview with AFP today that President Jonathan lacks the experience to lead Nigeria, saying it's the reason Boko Haram activities has been on the increase in the nation.
"This insurgency shouldn’t have lasted even six months. Within weeks, we (Obasanjo and I) crushed it because we did not neglect military training and, of course, we did not lack the leadership and the capacity to take decisions. I told Nigerians that he [Jonathan] did not have the capacity; he didn’t have the experience. He didn’t have anything and yet they gave him the chance, the opportunity. And they can now see the chance and the opportunity they gave him. Of course, I’m more experienced than he is. I believe my capacity cannot be compared with his, in all respect.” he concluded.

Atiku Abubakar Adapts to Democracy Parenting(MUST READ)
Atiku Abubakar is one man who knows how to pass a message across. In an age when children are evolving, parents need new skills to adapt to their new generation kids. In this well written witty tale, the former Vice President tells us how his son manage to pass across his wedding plans to him and how he systematically passed across his own input on the wedding. Enjoy,,,,
Sometime in January, I was in London on business, and my children quickly arranged a trip to the Emirates Stadium for me. It was to emerge later that it was not a hastily arranged event, but a well planned outing, put together by children of a businessman and politician.
It turned out that my son, Abba, who was appointed to be my escort to the event, was the primary reason why the event was set up in the first place. Abba had a major announcement to make, and it was that while he was away from home in America, he had found a lady he loved, and would love to bring her home as wife. I thought that was great news. But on our way home, Abba subtly mentioned that they would like to get married as soon as possible, and that he and his fiancee would like a rather small wedding. At that point, I began to realise why I had been taken to the match, and smiled.
Parenting in the age of democracy is not easy. In my time, I remember that even as a strong willed child without a father figure, my mother, Kande, would put her foot down whenever she needed something to be done, and no child could argue with Kande when she had put her foot down. But in my time, we had learned to allow our children have a say in decision making, especially those which concerned them. It’s what I have termed democratic parenting.
Education, for example, is where my children tend to have a 70% say in where they wanted to go. Some choose to study in Nigeria, and some went abroad. But even when they went abroad, it was mostly to Europe. But Abba decided he was going to America, and he came back with an intelligent, beautiful American lady, whom I have already accepted as a daughter.
But Abba was yet to reveal his hand. It was when we were discussing wedding logistics, when he mentioned that his wife’s family wanted to hold the wedding in Dubai! I could smell an ambush coming, and the Nigerian parent in me was ready to argue.
“But Abba, you know I’m a Nigerian. We like doing these things at home…”
“But dad, you know the wife’s family decides these marriage things”
“I see. But does your wife agree to this?”
“My wife loves it! She is completely in love with the plans”
“Oh, I see…” At that moment, I realised that my children had known I would prefer to host the marriage in Nigeria and had come up with, and knowing that I wouldn’t have a choice, since the wife’s family usually decides wedding plans, found a way to ambush any resistance I could have raised. It was a well executed plan, and I could see that there was no way I could argue. Of course no man would want to argue with his new in-laws at the first turn.
So I went back and put together a counter strategy. The next morning, I called Abba and told him I agree with the entire plan. We can hold a wedding in Dubai, and I will attend with my family. I could see a smile of satisfaction spread across his face, an unspoken “we’ve got the old man.” I played along and discussed the plan with him in detail.
As we finished, and Abba was about the leave the room, I mentioned in an offhanded tone “Oh, Abba, I think after the wedding in Dubai, it would be good for your people in Jada to welcome your new wife to Nigeria. What do you think?”
Inside my heart, I smiled. Just like they had me a day earlier, I had had him too. He could not argue that it wasn’t proper for his extended family and town to meet his new wife. Of course he knew that would be the event where all my family, friends and associates will be invited.
The Nigerian parent in me smiled. Even in the age of family democracy, we have learned to adapt. So all family and friends are welcome to Jada, to witness the marriage reception of my son, and his beautiful wife
Seven-Year Jail Term Proposed For Social Media Critics- Atiku Condemns the bill
Are we in a democracy or not ?because i don't understand why people cannot criticize their corrupt leaders or under performing government officials anymore.Thank God, former Vice President and Turaki Adamawa, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is kicking against the proposed bill seeking seven-year jail term for social media critics.
The social media is the voice of the ordinary man, they can't take it away from us. We understand some people do misuse it but it has brought about more accountability and transparency from our leaders.
The proposed bill tends to reduce some inflammatory comments against the government of Nigeria and its leaders, especially President Goodluck Jonathan.
However, the former Vice President took to his Twitter page Thursday morning to condemn the proposed bill, saying that, “I have always told our political leaders to see social media as a performance barometer, and not a threat.”
Atiku during an interview on why he relies on social media, especially Twitter, said, “It’s not all the time that I tweet. But then, I don’t think it is a question of bringing myself low or cheapening it. But that is a question of connecting. I believe you love your children. If they love something, won’t you love it?
Day I blasted Obasanjo To His face - Atiku
Former Vice-President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has revealed that he “blasted” his then boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, over his bid to run for a second term.
In the interview published by an online publication on Friday, Abubakar also disclosed that he and Obasanjo argued over his failed third term bid. Atiku said during one of their arguments, Obasanjo gave him a Quran to swear loyalty to him.
He said, “At first we started arguing, and then he (Obasanjo) opened his drawer and brought out a copy of the Quran and asked me to swear that I will not be disloyal to him. There was nothing I did not tell him in that room. The first thing I told him was that I swore with the Quran to defend the Constitution of Nigeria. Why are you now giving me the Quran to swear for you again? What if I swear for you and you go against the constitution?
“Secondly, I looked at him and told him that if I don’t like you or don’t support you, would I have called 19 northern governors to meet for three days in my House in Kaduna only for us to turn our back on you?
“Thirdly, I asked him, what are you even doing with the Quran? Are you a Muslim that you would even administer an oath on me with the Quran? I was angry, and I really blasted him. He asked me to forgive him and he returned the Quran back to the drawer, and we came out.”
Obasanjo’s third term bid failed following public outcry over what many saw as unconstitutional.
Speaking further about the controversial bid, which could have taken Obasanjo to a record 12 years as the country’s president, Atiku said he vehemently told Obasanjo to leave after the completion of his second term in office.
He said, “In fact we had the same kind of altercation when he was gunning for third term, he informed me that “ I left power twenty years ago, I left Mubarak in office, I left Mugabe in office, I left Eyadema in office, I left Umar Bongo, and even Paul Biya and I came back and they are still in power; and I just did eight years and you are asking me to go; why?” And I responded to him by telling him that Nigeria is not Libya, not Egypt, not Cameroun, and not Togo; I said you must leave; even if it means both of us lose out, but you cannot stay.”
Obasanjo and Atiku fell out at some point during their administration, with reports that the two did not see eye to eye.
There were also unconfirmed reports that the two of them fell out because Obasanjo went back on his promise to use one term in office and support Atiku’s candidacy for the presidency after his four years. Some reports claimed that Obasanjo had to go on his knees to seek Atiku’s support for his second term.
Atiku denied that his former boss went on his knees to plead for his support. He, however, said that Obasanjo visited his residence to plead for his support.

Atiku Abubakar Vows To Help R*pe Victims After Ganged R*aped 18-Year-Old Girl Committed Suicide
Earlier, we posted the tragic story of a 18 year old victim of rape who committed suicide after she was ganged r*ped by 3 guys in Bayelsa. If you missed it read it HERE.
The story must have filtered to Former Vice President, Atiku Abubarkar who took to twitter to vent his anger:
Atiku defends buying a house for his mum when he was 14
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar stirred a fresh debate on the social media, declaring via a post on his website that he bought a house for his mother at the age of 14.
Atiku, in the website post, claimed that:
Contrary to the belief that he “soiled” his hands while serving in Nigeria Customs Service, as well as during his eight-year tenure as Vice-President; he had a history of genuine “business success.”
He said, “It never mattered that I had a history of business success prior to entering politics. It never mattered that from the moment I bought my mother a home as a 14-year-old boy, I was running various businesses to provide for my family.”
But tell it to the marines, seems to be the thinking of the some Nigerian social media users, who received the claim with a pinch of salt. Little wonder, they further prodded him to explain how, at 14, he mustered the financial muscle to buy a house.
For instance, an online socio-political activist, Kayode Ogundamisi, is one of the first critics, who questioned the former Vice-President’s claim.
Ogundamisi said, “How did we end up with deluded characters as so called leaders in Nigeria. That former Vice-President Atiku would have Nigerians believe he bought a house for his mother as a minor/child is a clear indication that Nigeria’s problem is beyond human understanding.”
Another Facebook user, Adedayo Daramola asked,“Was it through innovation or through corruption that the former Vice-President accomplished the feat.”
However, Ogundamisi and Daramola are not alone in the circle of Nigerians doubting the veracity of Atiku’s claim.
For another Facebook user, Steve Collins-Ogwu, there appears to be more than meets the eye.
He stated, “At that age, what was he doing to rake in cash to have been able to afford the home? The last I checked, he was not into entertainment of any kind or an athlete to be able to earn cash at such an early stage. I need him to lecture me on how he did it.”
On Atiku’s blog post also, a reader, who identified himself simply as Inyang described the former vice-president’s piece as “rhetoric” and called him a “trickster.”
Inyang said, “Sir, I pray many Nigerians will be able to see beyond that gibberish piece of write-up and see you for the trickster that you are. You bought your mother a house at 14! What business brought forth such largesse?
“I personally would like to know. Please spare us the rhetoric and leave room for the younger and honest blood in our beloved country Nigeria who are out there praying for the chance to lead this country out of the mess you and your likes have led it. Please find a place to sit and give chance.’’
Atiku noticed the controversy his claim had generated and hurriedly took to Twitter to clarify it:
He said via his Twitter handle, @atiku, that due to his “humble background,” he took vacation jobs to fend for himself and his family members as a teenager.
He tweeted, “It’s true I bought my mother a home as a teenager. At 14, I was working as a clerk for Mallam Adamu Ciroma, the District Officer in the Ganye Native Authority. It was a temporary holiday job.
“The house was a thatched, mud bungalow, with two rooms, a kitchen and bathroom. It cost £9, saved from my £3 monthly earnings. In those days, secondary school students in long vacations took jobs. Temporary jobs for experience and some money, before returning to school.
“Most kids of my age bought shirts and shoes – but my mother was homeless. So, I saved and I bought that home for her. It is possible for people from a humble background to accomplish great things, even as teenagers, believe it or not.”

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar now blogs. Read about his fight for democracy and why he won't give up.
On the night of April 19, 2007, I sat with the head of my media team in a long conversation over dinner. It was a light-hearted conversation about many things: family, religion, and history. We joked about a recent visit by a friend, and the recent pranks by his youngest child. Everything but politics. This might sound strange because that was two nights before the 2007 Presidential Elections, and we were about to lose. It was my first, and only, run in a general election for president, and I knew it would be a heavy loss.

Atiku Kneels Down For Obasanjo
Atiku and Obasanjo, who served as vice president and president of Nigeria respectively, between 1999-2007, had an estranged relationship during the last lap of their second term in office.
Both men were among a retinue of VIPs invited to the opening of the week long Comptroller-Generals’ conference held at the newly inaugurated auditorium of Katsina State University.
Obasanjo, who arrived ahead of Atiku, was seated next to second republic President Shehu Shagari and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade.
Atiku, who arrived nearly 40-minutes after his former boss, first greeted the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu, Emir of Katsina, Dr. Abdulmimini Usman, the Ooni and Shagari who were seated at the podium.
When he got to Obasanjo, the former Vice President knelt down and bowed his head to greet his former boss.
The delighted crowd followed the mild drama with a loud applause and cheers.
A man who sat opposite the VIP podium raised his two hands up and shouted “Alleluia”.
Earlier, Vice President Namadi Sambo who represented President Goodluck Jonathan had inaugurated the 1,500 capacity auditorium of the Katsina State University, venue of the conference.
Two former heads of state, top traditional rulers from different geo-political zones in Nigeria, former Comptroller-Generals of Customs and Customs chiefs from Africa attended the opening event.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal delivered a goodwill message, where he challenged the Customs to go beyond its “statutory role” of combating smuggling of goods.
Tambuwal listed other roles of the service to include revenue collection, trade facilitation and border protection.
He urged the service to collaborate with other relevant agencies in the country to improve their services.
He pledged that the National Assembly would support the ongoing review of the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) to enable the service discharge its function optimally.
The theme of this year’s annual Comptroller-General’s conference is “Border Divide, Customs Connects.”
