El-Rufai And Deputy Forfeit 50 Per Cent Of Their Salary

Newly elected Governor of Kaduna State,  Nasiru El-Rufai  said he would forfeit 50 per cent of his salary pending when the financial situation of the state improves.
The governor stated this in his inaugural address, after he was sworn-in by the state Chief Judge, Justice Tanimu Zailani in Kaduna. He said that the pay cut would also affect the Deputy Governor, Mr Barnabas Bala.

El-Rufa’i also declared that the administration would “guarantee free and compulsory basic education for every child up to JS3, regardless of gender, religion or ethnicity.”

He said that in spite of the challenges facing the state, the administration would also “focus on jobs, security, education, and healthcare.”

El-Rufai said the situation demanded for “difficult decisions”, adding that political office holders must sacrifice the comfort of their offices for the greater good of all.

“In recognition of the difficult challenges we face, our deputy Governor and I have concluded that the sacrifices that change requires must begin with us.
“We have decided to take a pay cut and donate 50 percent of our salaries and allowances, until our fiscal situation improves.“We understand that leadership by example is the most persuasive way to demand sacrifices from all of us as citizens.“We pledge to avoid ostentation and foolish bigmanism, and to value transparency, modesty and accountability.

Nasir El-Rufai On The Run, As SSS Secures His Arrest Warrant

The State Security Service, SSS, has secured a warrant of arrest for the Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Nasir El-Rufai, and has now launched a manhunt for him, the spokesperson for the agency has said.

This is even as armed operatives of the Service again stormed a second house in Abuja believed to belong to the former minister in their desperate bid to arrest him.

They had earlier in the afternoon invaded his first house in the Maitama District of the nation’s capital, but could not find him as he had reportedly gone to pick his children from school. They were said to have tried to force their way in to arrest the former minister.

In the latest siege on another property, also in the Maitama District, the operatives were said to have beaten up some private guards for refusing them entry.

The spokesperson of the SSS, Marylyn Ogar, confirmed that the operatives visited Mr. El-Rufai’s second house to arrest him, but denied that anyone was beaten.

“I hate cheap blackmail,” Ms. Ogar told Premium Times on telephone. “We went to the first place, nobody was beaten up. How will we go to the second place and beat people up?”

She explained that the SSS got an arrest warrant demanded by Mr. El-Rufai, but could not find him to personally serve him the document.

“We extended a friendly invitation to him,” the SSS spokesperson said. “He was invited honourably to come and make some explanations about the comments attributed to him.
“He said he wanted an arrest warrant. We have now obtained that from a competent court and we are wondering why he is running.

“We want to serve it on him. Or is there any Nigerian that is above the law?
“The president has said his ambition is not worth any Nigerian’s blood. So why will anyone else be making provocative statements?”

The manhunt for the former minister followed his refusal to honour an invitation from the SSS on Thursday.

He cited his pending suit against the Service over his detention in a hotel in Awka during the Anambra State Governorship last November 16 as the reason for refusing to honour the invitation.
Mr. El-Rufai also insisted on seeing a warrant of arrest before he could go to the SSS office.
The invitation of the APC chief was in connection with his remarks at a conference in Abuja on Wednesday that there might be violence if the 2015 general elections were not credible.

Meanwhile, Mr. El-Rufai, in statement by his media advisor, Muyiwa Adekeye, on Friday, confirmed that armed SSS officials stormed his home in Abuja following his rejection of the attempt by the organization to compel him to report at their office without a valid warrant.

The statement said the former minister had on Thursday firmly told the Director General of SSS that he would be exercising his right not to go to the SSS offices except a warrant mandates him and offered to meet the SSS officials in his home or office.

“The armed invasion of his house is a clear indication that the SSS imagines itself as an agency immune from respecting fundamental rights, behaviour akin to a gathering of toughs before whom every citizen must quake,” the statement said.

“The SSS agents did not produce any warrant to back their invasion of his premises.
“The assault on El-Rufai’s house continues a sorry tradition of serial violation of his rights by the SSS which has arrested him at airports and hotels.

“The most recent was the action of the SSS in violating his right to freedom of movement in Awka during the Anambra elections. Without any just cause or formal charge, the Directorate of State Security Services (SSS) had unlawfully detained El Rufai, the Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the premises of Finotel Hotel, Akwa, Anambra State, from the 15th day of November, 2013 to the 16th day of November, 2013.”

The statement said during the period, Mr. El-Rufai was not only restricted to the hotel, he was denied access to his congregational prayer as a devout Muslim, and kept incommunicado without access to anyone and or the press.

It stated that in order to remedy the flagrant violation of his fundamental rights as enshrined in sections 35, 39, 40 and 41 of the Constitution, the former minister sued the SSS, seeking eight reliefs, including an injunction to restrain the SSS from further infringing on his fundamental rights.

CAN gives El-Rufai 7 days to reveal source of Oritsejafor’s private jet

Freedom to say whatever one feels comes with it the responsibility to be liable or held accountable for such statements. We have learnt lessons from the ongoing war between Femi Fani Kayode and Bianca Ojukwu on what to say and not what to say.

There is another war currently going on because some people think freedom of speech means to say anything. Former minister for the Federal Capital Terrotory, Mallam Nasir El Rufai, has been given a 7-day ultimatum by the Christian Association of Nigeria to reveal to Nigerians who gave the President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, his private jet or risk having his dirty character exposed to the public. The Christian Association also asked El-Rufai to go for a Psychiatric test.

This is in response to the interview the former minister granted Saturday Sun dated 14th September where he called the CAN president a bigot and a pretender. El-Rufai said:
"The CAN president is not a religious leader. He is a religious pretender. From the statements he has made, he is a bigot. He is an ethnic irredentist and no one should take him serious. It is sad that such a person is the head of CAN. He can say whatever he wants to say but we know who he is working for, we know who gave him his private jet. so why should we worry about someone like that. He has zero credibility".
See CAN's response to El-Rufai's comments

In a statement signed by Rev Emmanuel Dziggau and Elder Sunday Oibe, CAN said

"The fact that he can abuse Jesus Christ in his tweets and Christians ignored him does not give him the impetus to make unguarded comments about Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, who is the leader of the Christians in Nigeria"

They also noted that Christians respect other faiths and have never abused the Sultan of Sokoto or the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar 111 who is the leader of the Muslims in Nigeria.
If you missed it this was what he tweeted about Jesus Christ :
“@zebbook: If Jesus criticizes Jonathan's govt, Maku/Abati/Okupe will say he slept with Mary Madgalene.”....LWKMD..
Nasir El-Rufai @elrufai"@Easyaffection: @elrufai Sir with all due respect. I get u point in dis joke. But why Jesus? It's not funny."....ask @zebbook.... -

Jonathan Is The Godfather Of Oil Thieves – El-Rufai

El-Rufai said President Goodluck Jonathan’s response to an interview he granted over the weekend showed that he is “the promoter and apostle of ethnic and religious divisions of Nigeria.
However, in a statement on Sunday by presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, el-Rufai’s allegations were dismissed and he was described as a “serial liar”, who should not be taken seriously.
He also accused President Jonathan of giving more federal appointments to his kinsmen from Bayelsa State since he came to power.
“According to a report issued by Governance and Sustainable Initiatives Ltd., entitled Analysis and Lessons of the Current Geopolitical Distribution of Federal Appointments, the Jonathan administration is said to have favoured his home state of Bayelsa 200 per cent times more than the next states with the highest federal representation – Delta, Edo and Anambra.
“If Jonathan is not playing the ethnic card, can he possibly explain to Nigerians why Bayelsa, which has the smallest population in Nigeria and the fewest number of local government areas, has more than double the number of federal appointees measured by population and weight of responsibility than that of the next state, whilst the most populous states of Lagos and Kano were at the bottom of the representation ladder? What is the president’s response to that?
“If President Jonathan is not playing ethnic politics, why was he quick to exonerate those he called ‘my people’ in the aftermath of the October 1, 2010 bombings in Abuja?
“Did Henry Okah, who was eventually convicted of the offence in South Africa, not reveal in court that he was contacted by a high-ranking official from the presidency who told him to implicate some northerners in the bombing?
“A year later, after his highly divisive election, he told a delegation of the Ohanaeze that he believed that the only votes he got from the north were from Igbo residents in the north. Are those the words of a patriot or an ethnic bigot? This was after an election where he received nearly 100 per cent of all votes cast in the South-south and South-east states, in some cases, getting more votes than there were registered voters or even residents.
“The presidency did not respond to these facts, but chose to distort the matter in order to sweep the issues under the carpet. It may interest the president to know that Nigerians are much wiser now and will not be deceived by the antics of a drowning president and his desperate aides,” el-Rufai said.
“It may interest him to know that former President Olusegun Obasanjo also fasted while in office, but did not broadcast it for political gains. Incidentally, fasting goes beyond abstaining from food and drink during daylight hours; it is an intrinsic spiritual contact between man and his creator to strive for higher ideals including truthfulness, honesty and keeping promises.
“Which promise has Jonathan kept? Where is the integrity in this government? Where is the genuine fear of God when looting is the order of the day?
“Nigeria, by the will of the people, is a secular state. But of all Nigerian leaders, no one except Jonathan makes policy proclamations from his place of worship.
“Perhaps, the irony is lost on the president, but not only is it religious politics to make policy statements before only a section of the populace, the implications of making those promises in the house of God, then refusing to fulfil them are serious,” he added.
El-Rufai who had alleged that Jonathan was the godfather of the oil thieves challenged him to respond, rather than distorting the comments he made during the radio programme.
“If that is not the case, how come oil theft jumped from about 100,000 barrels per day before his election to a staggering 400,000 per day now?
“Can Jonathan explain why he ordered the removal of recognised maritime security officials from the creeks and handed over pipelines and oil installations security to militants? In what country does a bank employ a former bank robber to guard its vaults? Is there not a grand strategy to ease oil. theft and procure arms for the militants to use against their fatherland? Why is there no response to this issue?” el-Rufai asked.

The former minister was arrested on Saturday morning on arrival from London and driven to the SSS headquarters also known as Yellow House in Abuja on Saturday morning.
He was interrogated by the SSS Director-General, Mr. Ita Ekpeyong, over an article titled, ‘What Nigerians pay the Federal Government‘.
The article, which was published by saharareporters, detailed how government had allocated billions of naira to the Office of the National Security Adviser and security agencies under its purview, without corresponding results.
The article also said other vital sectors had been given lesser budgetary votes.
The NPAN president and el-Rufai left the SSS headquarters around 11.10pm accompanied by the ex-minister‘s second wife and an aide, according to the report.
Obaigbena reportedly stood surety for el-Rufai.
The former minister was asked to return to the SSS headquarters on Monday for routine questioning.
The portal said it spoke with el-Rufai, who confirmed his release.
At 12.34 am on Sunday morning, el-Rufai also confirmed his release on a social medium, Twitter.
In the post, he said, ”Arrested at the airport: 5.25am. Phones seized: 10.17am. Released 10.11pm. Back home, showered and going to sleep. Thanks to all for (the) concern.”
The spokesperson for the SSS, Mrs. Marilyn Ogar, had explained on Saturday evening that el-Rufai was required to explain how he came about the figures in the article. She also said the allegations contained in the article were in breach of the Freedom of Information Act 2011.
The former minister had gone to the United Kingdom to help present the Congress for Progressive Change‘s position at Chatham House, the influential foreign policy institution, in London.
