Popular Pastor Caught With Gun At Police Check Point

Sam Keddy Balogun the Commandant-general of Mission for African Chaplaincy, a Christian organisation in Lokoja, Kogi State, has been arrested by the police for illegally possessing a firearm.

The pastor was arrested along with his bodyguard with a Toyota Hilux van painted in military colour, which registration number was concealed. The police said it was being used to hoodwink unsuspecting members of the public into believing that the organisation is a paramilitary organisation recognised by law.

Parading both men before journalist at the police headquarters in Lokoja, the Kogi State police commissioner, Seidu Madawaki said his men also arrested one Saliu Mohammed who claims to be Pastor Balogun’s bodyguard with a short gun.

The commissioner said Saliu confessed that the pistol was given to him by his boss who he said, was the commandant general of the Mission for African Chaplaincy.
He said a search was conducted on the house and two cartridges were recovered with one other already expended...

It was gathered that at public functions in the state, members of the organisation kit up like military personnel and usurp the functions of security agencies and harass innocent citizens with their military camouflage.

CP Madawaki said when police detectives led the suspect to his boss’ house; the boss admitted that he was the one who gave the gun to Mohammed to be protecting him with. Other items recovered in his house were detectives’ gadgets and some paramilitary uniforms.

The commissioner said the painting of their vehicle in military colour and the concealing of the number plate portray an intent for criminality, adding that the activities of the chaplaincy had constituted a threat to the state as thousands of people including the jobless and civil servants had been brainwashed to join the organisation as a paramilitary organisation in the country.

In his confession, Pastor Balogun said he acquired the guns illegally and begged with the police to forgive him. He claims he and his organisation has been organising series of prayer sessions for the police, the military and other security agencies. But did they ask him to pray for them?

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bankers Committee, yesterday sealed a biometric solution pact with a German Firm, Dermalog, for the development of a payment system that would be driven by fingerprints.

What this means is unlike the current practice where different instruments are used as means of identification, bank customers will from 2014 be identified through their fingerprints.

Sanusi, while speaking at the signing of the agreement, which was held at the central bank’s headquarters in Abuja, noted that the system would become operational on February 14, 2014.

This move followed the recommendation of a sub-committee chaired by the Group Managing Director, Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

The cost of the project is above $50m and the banks, in their wisdom and in line with their collaborative efforts, are going to be sharing the cost of the project, and no customer is going to be charged for this project.

STOWAWAY TEENAGER: ''My In-laws Are After Me, Over Government Money''

13-year-old Daniel Oikhena has become popular figure and luck has definitely has smiled on him probably not what he bargained for, all thanks to the attention he has been getting after he was caught hiding in tyre hole of Arik plane on the 24th of August and though he was going to America.

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole who had a interview with the boy and meeting with the boy's family discovered the boy wasn't a threat but as a matter of fact intelligent, this prompted him into directing Women Affairs Ministry to take over his training in order to afford  Daniel the opportunity to realize his life’s  ambition.

Daniel's mother Evelyn, had  said the son  wanted to fly a plane to America as a pilot.
Daniel went back to school  on  Monday, 16  September  after he was examined by doctors and a psychologist and was found to be sound. Seeing the boy  now is more difficult than seeing a governor.

This is so because the state government had taken up the responsibility to ensure that he gets good education. Efforts to meet him to find out how he was preparing to go back to school were  frustrated by the security around him.

The mother,  Evelyn is also not left out , according to her “It is even difficult for me to see him some times because he is undergoing some training and that is being taken care of by the state government. I no longer have powers over him. It was even recently that I was able to see him.

They decided to allow me see him because they were preparing him to go back to school. The only thing I can say now is that the father and his people are bothering my life. They think the state government gave me money and,  rather than think about the welfare of the boy, they think  it is all about money. They accused me of saying  my husband was sick or was even dead but I never said all that and God knows”.

But I thank God for his mercy and that is why it is painful, rather for the father to be grateful to God that the son survived in that aircraft, all they have been accusing me is money from government. I am just saying it because if anything happens to me, they should be held responsible since they want to kill me for something I know nothing about.

Right from day one, I have been running up and down about Daniel’s matter, none of them cared about what I went through with my children. My daughters are supposed to have gone back to school now but due to no money they have not gone back. Their father does not care about that and it is very sad really”.
