Ministerial List : ‘Nothing To Be Excited About’ - PDP Blast

Below is PDP statement on the ministerial list unveiled today...
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has noted the list of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees, as announced by the Senate on Tuesday. The party said “by a mere look at the list, one can tell that there is nothing to be excited about, especially considering the length of time it took the President to come up with it”.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh in a statement on Tuesday, said “looking at the list, it is hard to put a finger on why it should take any serious-minded and focused government, six months after its election to assemble such a regular team.” The party said the list and the length of time it took have further confirmed the fact that the APC-led administration is driven by propaganda and deceit, a development that raises doubts on the sincerity of its anti-corruption crusade.

Signed: Chief Olisa Metuh National Publicity Secretary

Obasanjo And Tinubu Allegedly in Heated Row Over President Buhari's Ministerial List(Report)

The yet to be released Ministerial list of President Buhari is reportedly sparking controversy amongst the nation's political big guns.

Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, are reportedly at logger heads over the formation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.

It was learnt that the first casualty in the war between the two politicians was the former Lagos state commissioner for finance and a nominee of Tinubu into the cabinet, Wale Edun.

According to New Telegraph Edun, who Tinubu had suggested to Buhari as minister of finance, has been overlooked despite being screened by the security service.

He is to be replaced by the former Lagos state commissioner for budget and economic planning, Yemi Cardoso, as a Lagos representative in the cabinet. Obasanjo, together with Ibikunle Amosun, the Ogun state governor, also reportedly opposed Tinubu’s decision to ensure Edun became the Ogun state appointee.

The former president reportedly called Tinubu and urged him to stop pushing Edun as the Ogun state nominee. He was said to have cautioned that Ogun people would not let Tinubu fill the slot of the state with somebody whose work and career were rooted in Lagos state.

Obasanjo and Amosun have decided to give the state’s slot in the cabinet to a former PDP national auditor, Chief Bode Mustapha. Insiders said the two recent visits of Obasanjo to Buhari in Abuja were first to submit his ministerial list and for further discussions.

Appointees of the former president in Buhari’s cabinet comprise the former Osun state governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun); the former governor of Ekiti state and now the deputy national chairman (South) of the APC, Chief Segun Oni (Ekiti); Mustapha (Ogun), the former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili and the erstwhile governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

The source further said: “Tinubu and Akande’s visit to President Buhari on September 9 was an impromptu meeting. An influential official in the presidency told them of Obasanjo’s surreptitious moves to corner the ministerial nominees from the South-West. This is why the two leaders visited.”

“On Obasanjo’s ministerial list, former Governor Oyinlola featured just as his name featured from the list submitted from the state. There was no resistance to Oyinlola’s nominee because that was part of the agreement before his defection from the PDP to the APC. The party has fulfilled one leg of the agreement by ceding the senatorial slot to Senator Isiaka Adeleke who also defected from PDP to the APC,” a significant member of the APC said.

The source added that based on Tinubu’s grievance, the president pledged to look into the issue.

APC Insists on Deputy Senate President Ekweremadu's Removal(Report)

APC says Deputy Senate president Ike Ekweremadu of the PDP must be removed from office. Senator Ekweremadu who was also the deputy senate president in the last administration, was elected deputy senate president during the controversial senate leadership election on June 9th which produced Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President.

A member of the ruling party who spoke on condition of anonymity with Punch, said Ekweremadu serving as deputy senate president will adversely affect President Buhari's administration.

He also added that President Buhari has refused to see Senator Saraki and Hon Dogara since their emergence as Senate President and Speaker.

"As deputy senate leader, Ekweremadu is automatically the Chairman, Senate Committee on Constitution Amendment. This is a sensitive position that, statutorily, should not be held by the minority. Ekweremadu and his PDP co-travellers will hamper the policies of the Buhari government. By the virtue of Senate rules, a member of the minority is not supposed to be the deputy senate leader; so, he is occupying the post illegally. We know the body language of some of these elements to anti-corruption. Nigerians know the stance of Buhari on corruption and insecurity. These elements occupying positions in the National Assembly must be removed. Otherwise, this administration is dead on arrival. The President has refused to see Saraki and Dogara since they emerged as senate president and speaker respectively. Both Saraki and Dogara have done everything possible to see the President but he has shunned them because he is not happy about their conduct. You can see that the President has seen the Lawan group; this shows where his support lies” he said

Senator Hope Uzodimma Denies Being Arrested Over Ballot Thumb Printing

Some reports circulating yesterday stated that Senator Hope Uzodimma and some family members were arrested by police in Imo state for allegedly thumb-printing ballot papers meant for the governorship rerun election. He just released a statement saying it's not true. Read below...

Senator Hope Uzodimma (Imo West) has cautioned politicians in the country against ridiculing and tarnishing the hard reputation of their opponents.
He said politicians who indulge in such act were not helping Nigeria’s fledging democracy to thrive but  were wittingly and unnecessarily heating up the polity.

Reacting to allegations that he, along with some of his family members were  arrested by the police in his Omuma country home in Imo State over alleged electoral malpractices during last Saturday’s re-run Governorship and House of Assembly Elections in the State,Uzodimma said that neither he nor any member of his family was arrested.

He said as a lawmaker who has distinguished himself in the Upper Chamber,he would not break any of the country’s laws or any law for that matter and that he  would not encourage any of his family members to do so.

Uzodimma said that what transpired on the day is that the All Progressives Alliance (APC) in the state in concert with some thugs and the party’s agents had  unsuccessfully tried to snatch some ballot boxes  from Oru East and Oru West which are the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s strongholds under his leadership in the state.

“Vigilant members of the PDP were able to foil the opponents’ attempts and having failed in their bid they resorted to blackmail, ridicule and tarnish my name.I know this is elections period  but to concort any story at a given time to disparage an opponent is unbecoming. This is unfortune”, he added.

The Senator said  he was the person who called in the police when he was alerted of the attempts to hijack the ballot boxes “ and the police promptly came and brought the situation under control. For people to turn around to say the direct opposite is unfortunate”.

He appealed to politicians to be decent in their politicking and avoid those actions that could bring the integrity of their opponents into disrepute as such will only heat up the polity with dire consequences.

PDP's Oyo Governorship Candidate Denies Removing Transformer He Donated To Community Because He Lost

PDP governorship candidate in Oyo state, Teslim Folarin, allegedly removed a transformer he donated to a community after he lost in the election. Well, he just released a statement saying it's not true. Read below...

It is with sadness that I learnt of a particular incident which purportedly took place in the Sabo area of Ibadan on Sunday. I understand that a transformer which I had donated to the community was the subject of controversy between the youths of the area and some leaders with either side accusing the other of trying to sell the transformer. The PDP youths in the area subsequently took the transformer to a safe place within Sabo area itself pending an amicable resolution which I understand was resolved by the leaders of the community.

Fact; I was not aware of this incident until this morning(yesterday) when I was woken up with headlines all over the internet that I had taken back the transformer because I had lost an election. It is instructive to note that no media house had even contacted me to find out the truth.

I have since contacted members of Sabo community and they confirmed that the matter has been resolved.

Which brings me to the worrying conclusion that a well orchestrated and sophisticated campaign of calumny has begun against my person as a precursor to the 2019 elections. I would advice my supporters to take heart and remain peaceful as this is only one in a long line of attacks that I will expect from enemies of my progress.

For now it is a time for healing and introspection, we have had a long campaign and everyone needs to rest and thank God for his or her life before asking God to prolong our lives to the said 2019.

I thank the good people of Oyo state for your continued support.

One love.

Agbaje Will Defeat Ambode – Tunji Shelle Says

The Lagos State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Tunji Shelle has expressed optimism that the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Jimi Agbaje would defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Akinwumi Ambode in the governorship polls.

Shelle, who spoke to newsmen after casting his vote at Baale Street, Igbo- Osan in Lekki expressed optimism that the PDP would break the 16 year jinx and form the next government in Lagos state. He said “we will produce a governor who will liberate the residents and meet the yearning for change by the people of Lagos”.

While debunking claims by the APC that the party was instigating violence in some parts of the state, the PDP leader said “PDP members in the state have been conducting themselves in appropriate manners from reports reaching us.”

He, however, noted that “we are hopeful and confident of victory at the end of the day. From the reports we are getting across the state, the PDP will carry the day at the end of this election.”

Besides, he said “no matter the propaganda or rigging plot, I see our candidate, Jimi Agbaje emerging victorious”.

On the allegation by the APC that President Goodluck Jonathan visited Lagos where he met with some prominent leaders to rig for the PDP, he described the claim as false saying “few days ago, the President- elect, Muhammadu Buhari visited Lagos and campaigned for Ambode.”

“The PDP never made any fuss about it. Why should the APC be crying wolf where there is none because the president visited Lagos?”, he said.

Photo : APC Protest Rivers Election, Calls For Outright Cancellation Of Elections In The State

The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has petitioned the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, calling for “outright cancellation and rescheduling” of the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

The allegations contained in the petition, if proven, may discredit the election in the state.

In the petition signed by the Rivers APC Chairman, Davies Ikanya, the party said the “parody of election held in Rivers State” on Saturday was marred by “deliberate non release of result sheets to nearly all the centres, active collaboration and collusion of the INEC staff with the People’s Democratic Party in undermining the credibility of the election”.

It said violence was orchestrated to scare away voters, adding that the officers of the Nigerian Police Force were also used to arrest some APC leaders and faithful, thereby disenfranchising them.

All these happened, the APC alleged, because the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gesila Khan, “a known associate and friend” of President Goodluck Jonathan, “connived” with the PDP.

“The most egregious aspect of the glaring irregularities and breaches in the election is in the area of a wilful and deliberate non availability of results sheets in nearly all voting centres”, the party said.
Accordingly, this was “deliberately made so as to pave the way for the writing of the results thereafter”.

While no result sheets were sent to Emohua, Ikwerre, Omuma, Etche, Akuku Toru, Ogu/Bolo, Okrika, Asari Toru, Ahoada East, Bonny, Khana, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Ahoada West,Abua/Odual, Oyigbo and some parts of Port Harcourt, only three of 11 wards of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government had result sheets, the ruling APC in the state said.

It stated that in spite of strenuous objection by members of the party, “several thousand persons” with fake permanent voter cards, rejected by the card readers, were allowed to vote in almost all the Local Government Areas, particularly, in Tai-eleme, Oyigbo, Ikwerre, Obio/Akpor, Okrika and Ogu/Bolo.

Following seizure of sensitive materials in Gokana and Opobo/Nkoro LGAs, the electoral officers announced there were no elections, APC added.
While the petition was being drafted, APC said it was aware that massive thumb-printing and collation of fake results were underway at:
Landmark Hotel in D/Line, Port Harcourt owned by Olaka Nwogu the PDP Senatorial Candidate for Rivers South East.
2. Jora Hotel in D/Line, Port Harcourt.
3. Senator Lee Maeba’s house in Luwa in Khana LGA of Rivers State.
4. Emma Anyanwu’s house in Ulakwo in Etche LGA of Rivers State.
5. Eugene Minimah’s house in Opobo.
6. Kelechi Nwogu’s house in Omuma
7. Police Station, Kpor in Gokana LGA in Rivers State.
8. Hope Ikiriko’s house in Ogbologbolo in Ahoada West LGA in Rivers State.
9. Krisdera Hotel, Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA in Rivers State.
10. Mike Elechi’s farmhouse in Elele, Ikwerre LGA in Rivers State.
11. Barrister Harvey Ideozu’s house in Ahoada, Ahoada East LGA in Rivers State.
12. Iboroma Kichener’s house in Akuku-Toru LGA in Rivers State.
“In Gokana local government also, trained-INEC ad hoc personnel were replaced with untrained manpower suspected to be PDP members”, the party said. “It was believed to have been done in connivance with the LGA, Electoral Officer, EO.
“These same actions were also replicated in several other LGAs including Khana LGA where in Wards 6, 9, 16 17 and 18, the Returning Officers, Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers are all known PDP members. In Okrika LGA, there was a sudden change and appearance of fresh and non-trained INEC ad-hoc personnel. This also happened in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area and other LGAs.

“We want to firmly state that there is nowhere in the world where this sham and debacle that happened in Rivers State can be glorified as an election and allowing this to stand is to posit to the entire World that allocation of votes and massive irregularities and malpractices will be allowed as long as the perpetrators are able to carry same out”.
The party, therefore, urged the INEC chairman to cancel Saturday’s elections in Rivers State.

"PDP Shared Money At My Polling Unit" - Akinwunmi Ambode Says(See Results)

Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Lagos State, says President Goodluck Jonathan was able to get 71 votes at his (Ambode’s) polling unit at Ward A5, polling unit 03, Epe, because members of the Peoples Democratic Party distributed cash.

He, however, expressed pleasure in the fact that the APC presidential candidate, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), got 97 votes. PUNCH reports he said:
“Some PDP people distributed cash at my polling unit, but they still failed. Hopefully, subsequent elections will be different as people become more enlightened.”
Ambode said the process of accreditation went smoothly in his area.

The PDP Lagos Chairman, Capt. Tunji Shelle, however, said Ambode was making a baseless accusation because he was afraid of losing the April 11 governorship election.

He said, “Who are the people who shared the money? Ambode knows that he will lose in the governorship poll. He should come forward with proofs.”
