A member of a seven-man robbery gang arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command has expressed regrets participating in seven robbery operations only to lavish all his loot on prostitutes.

In a confessional statement he made at the Police Headquarters, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos recently, 25-year-old Rasheed Alimi, who said he was an okada rider before his foray into armed robbery.

taking a member of the deadly gang to night clubs and hotels. In turn, he said, the gang member, Tope Olaniyi, would buy him drinks and Indian hemp and also give him prostitutes to sleep with.

Hear him: “People around Ikorodu (Lagos) saw him as a big boy. I used to take him to hotels and night clubs and he did not only pay for my service but also bought drinks and Indian hemp for me. He also gave me prostitutes to sleep with. From the first operation he took me to, I got N5,000. That was big money to me, because I used to make only N2,000 per day from riding okada. Although we sold the Honda car we snatched for N120,000, they gave me only N5,000”.

Rasheed Alimi however regretted ever accepting the prostitute given to him as gift back then as such didn’t allow him to utilize his ill-gotten wealth properly. “I participated in more than seven operations, but prostitutes did not allow me to save a dime. I regret making friends with a prostitute. Upon all the love she said she had for me, she ran away when she heard that SARS men had picked me up. If I regain my freedom now, or after serving prison terms, I will look for her to give me all the money she took from me,” Alimi lamented.

Others arrested with Rasheed, some much more older than him, also share the same negative fate, as frolicking with women of easy virtues seem to be the only form of 'enjoyment' they knew.

Easy come, easy go... These bad Nigerians should know better that money made with the gun and other forms of violence is not what will give them the good life they craved. Hope they learn their lessons and demonstrate same by embracing hardwork after serving their respective jail terms.
