SAD: Trailer Driver Kills 5 School Children This Morning,Angry Youth Blocks Ajah Road in Lagos

Report reaching us this morning reveals that Ajah road, close to the popular Ajah market has been blocked. This is as a result of the fatal accident that took place there this morning when a trailer went off road and killed 5 primary school pupils going to school. The youths are very angry with the unfortunate incidents and are using this avenue to seek audience with the Governor of Lagos state, Fashola because according to them, the accidents happened because of the lack of pedestrain bride in the area. The police are trying to calm the situation but the number of angry youths seem to be increasing by the seconds.

The reports revealed that he tanker driver abandoned his truck and escaped hence he just saved himself from been lynched to death by the angry youths but we know he will surely be picked up by the police....Stay with us for more details later.

20 members of Jehovah Witnesses D***d in Road Mishap In Nigeria

It was indeed a black Saturday in Akwa Ibom State, as a man, his whole family were among more than 20 members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses that got perished in a fatal road accident along the Utu Etim Ekpo road, in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the state.  

The tragic incident which occurred on their way to their annual convention in Ikot Ekpene Local Government area of the state also left 40 other members of the church severely injured.

 It was gathered that more than 70 members of the church had hired a Lorry from Ukanafun Local Government Area to Ikot Ekpene for the three-day annual district convention on Friday, but on their way, tragedy struck, leaving many members of the church d**d. 

 The corpses and those injured in the accident were said to have been taken to nearby hospitals and mortuaries. May Jehovah console the families of those affected.

20 wedding guests killed in auto crash

 About 20 people were reported dead in auto crash yesterday along Kobape-Abeokuta. The accident occurred  at Ototo village located between Paramount F.M Radio Station and Police Computer College, Abeokuta around 7.30 a.m.

The accident  was reportedly caused by a truck with registration number, Lagos,  JJJ 489XB, which allegedly veered off  its lane and rammed into a fully loaded Hiace passengers bus conveying the victims.

It was gathered that the victims, all members of the African Church Solution Camp, Ewang Estate, Abeokuta, had  left for Lagos to attend a wedding ceremony of one of their members when tragedy struck.

The driver of the truck  was said to have lost control and killed the bus passengers.
Many of the victims, according to an eye witness account, died on the spot following the impact of the collision, while others died in hospital.

Two infants, including a two-year-old, were said to be among the victims.An eye witness claimed the survivors were taken to a state hospital for treatment.Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Ayobami Omiyale, confirmed the accident,but said only nine died.

He however said that sympathisers took some corpses away before rescue team arrived the scene.Also, the coordinator of the Ogun State traffic management outfit, TRACE, at the scene, Sola Bamidele,  said the accident was caused by the truck driver.

Bamidele pointed out that  the passengers took off from Abeokuta less than 30 minutes before  the auto crash occured.

He added that the body (TRACE) was still trying to get in touch with the transport company which owned the ill-fated bus to get the manifest of the passengers.When Sunday Vanguard visited the State Hospital Ijaye, where the victims were allegedly taken, worried relations were seen, asking for the victims whereabouts.

A doctor coordinating Ogun State Ambulance Services,  Hassan Adelakun, said some of the victims died at the scene of incident while others died at the hospital.Adelakun added that some of the victims corpses  were deposited at State Hospital while others were taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba,  Abeokuta.

Meanwhile, at the African Church Solution Camp, which the victims attended, members wore a pensive mood when Sunday Vanguard visited the place last night.

Court finds Dangote culpable for accident that claimed over 30 lives

In August 2010, a truck belonging to Dangote Sugar Refineries, rammed into vehicles along the Lagos-Ibadan Express, resulting in a fatal accident that claimed the lives of over 30 people and destroyed several vehicles. 

The families of the victims went to court to seek justice and compensation. And after over a year and a half, they finally got it yesterday as an Ikeja Magistrate court has asked Dangote Sugar Refinery to 'issue a public apology' and pay 'minimal compensation' to the accident victims and their families within the next three months.

13 killed, 46 others injured in Katsina auto crash

THIRTEEN people have lost their lives, while 48 others are in critical condition, following an accident that occurred on the Mashi-Guntu road in Mashi Local Government Area of Katsina State. The accident, which occurred at about 8.00 p.m. on Sunday, involved an articulated lorry carrying the victims, cows and sheep. 

 It was gathered that the lorry skidded off the road as a result of speeding, which left 11 persons dead on the spot, while two others died on the way to Daura General Hospital. Investigations further revealed that the victims, who were from the Mai’adua market, were heading to Lagos with their cows and sheep when the accident occurred. An eyewitness told Nigerian Tribune that the driver of a car, who also sustained serious injuries, was being attended to at the Katsina General Hospital. 

 When contacted, the zonal FRSC commandant, Daura, Malam Abdullahi Galadi, attributed the accident to speeding, saying that the commuters were from the Mai’adua market going to Lagos with their animals. He, however, added that his officers had been dispatched to the scene of accident to ensure a free flow of traffic on the road.

 During a visit to the accident scene, the chairman, Mashi Local Government Council, Alhaji Hamisu Abdullahi Gyartai, sympathised with the victims, describing the accident as an act of God and prayed to God to guard against future occurrence.

Road accident: 14 burnt to death in Osun

There was a tragic road carnage yesterday afternoon as fourteen passengers were reportedly burnt in an accident which occurred at Iwaraja junction, near Ilesa, Osun State.

Also twelve others were presently receiving treatment at a special hospital in Osun State after sustaining injuries.

Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Osun, Mr Sunday Maku, confirmed the casualty figures in a chat with reporters in Osogbo, the state capital.

Maku said the victims, including two drivers, were burnt beyond recognition when two buses collided and a fire started.

He said one of the buses was coming from Akure and going to Ibadan, while the other was moving in the opposite direction.

Maku said: “The accident involved a white Toyota Hiace bus, marked LG 27 GAR, with the inscription ‘Akoko Edo Line’, and a Volkswagen wagon painted in white and orange colour, with an unidentified registration number.

“Twelve adults, including eight men and four women, who were seriously injured, were taken to Wesley College Hospital in Ilesa.

He blamed the accident, which occurred about 12:10pm, on excessive speeding and dangerous driving.

66 die in clash between FULANI and TIV community fight

SIXTY SIX lives were lost Monday in separate incidents in Benue, Plateau and Osun throwing several families into mourning. No fewer than 45 persons are feared dead in a renewed skirmish between Fulani herdsmen and native Tiv community in Gwer West local government area of Benue State while 14 people were burnt to death with 12 others seriously injured in an auto-accident that occurred at Iwaraja junction, near Ilesa, Osun state.

Also, 7 persons were crushed to death in another accident involving a trailer and a commercial Peugeot car along the Jos-Bukuru express highway.

The President of Tyosin Youth Association, Engr. Joseph Mom who disclosed this yesterday while briefing journalists in Makurdi said the invaders stormed the area early Sunday morning killing people and burning down houses and properties in the area.

Mom said the Fulani herdsmen came from areas bordering the local government with the River Benue to carry out the attack on the affected communities of Tse-Ayande, Chille, Mma-Kpe, Tse-Gboku, Tse-Kpar and several other areas

He lamented that the where about of most inhabitants of affected communities are still unknown.

According to him, “They usually cross from the River with speed boat to carry out this premeditated attack. We have been hospitable to the Fulanis but they have continued to attack us on issues bothering on grazing areas”.

He added,”They are usually heavily armed living us always on the defensive. May be they felt what happened last year was not enough so they have come back to continue from where they stopped”, Mom lamented.

The Youth president lambasted security agencies accusing them of not living up to expectation in checking Fulani incessant invasion of the area, contending that the herdsmen have continued with the actbof hostility without being arrested.

He therefore called on the Federal government to as a matter of urgency deploy a special security task force to protect and guarantee the safety of the people who now live in panic

Meanwhile, the State Police Public Relations’ Officer ASP Ejike Alaribe confirmed in a telephone interview that the Police could confirm only 16 Deaths.

Alaribe intimated that security operatives have been deployed to the area to forestall further bloodbath.

7 crushed to death in Jos

In Jos, the driver of the trailer with registration number XA 847 was said to have lost control while answering a phone call, crossing to the other lane of the express road where it crashed into the Peugeot 504 car with registration number AH 762 KUJ believed to have taken off from Mangu.

The commercial vehicle was said to be dropping passengers when the trailer rammed into it and another car which had four occupants. One of those injured and rushed to hospital was a pregnant woman.

Angry youths said to have been angered by alleged lack of remorse of the driver torched the trailer and it took the intervention of the police and other security agencies to bring the situation under control.

The bodies of those killed were later deposited at the Plateau Specialist Hospital where some of the injured were also taken for treatment by men of the Federal Safety Corps and the police.

The FRSC Sector Commander in Osun, Mr Sunday Maku, who confirmed the casualty figures in the accident that happened in the state said the victims, including two drivers, were burnt beyond recognition when two buses coming from opposite directions collided and caught fire.

“Twelve adults, including eight males and four females who were seriously injured, were rushed to Wesley College Hospital in Ilesa for treatment,” he said.

He blamed the incident, which occurred at about 12:10 p.m., on over speeding and dangerous overtaking.

Explosion kills 3 and injure many others in Lagos

Three persons died at about midnight on Saturday when a petroleum truck exploded at Mile 2, near Festac Town, in Lagos.

There was report that the fire, which followed the explosion, injured many people and burnt 39 vehicles, including a number of commercial buses.

The spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Jaiyeoba Joseph, who confirmed the incident, said that the driver of the truck with registration No. SB 370 ATN, was, however, at large.

Chief Kazeem Orilowo, the branch treasurer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mile 2, who witnessed the incident, told journalists that their office was destroyed in the inferno which lasted for about seven hours.

He said that the incident occurred when the driver of the truck, which was petrol laden, lost control while descending one of the loops of the Mile 2 bridge and exploded by the motor park.

Orilowo said that the vehicles destroyed were for inter-state and intra-city transportation.

NEWSMEN reports that 10 transport companies operating from the motor park to cities in the South East and South South lost vehicles to the inferno.

Mr Austin Iziren, a driver with one of the transport companies, Jil Motors, told reporters that they lost a bus, while the fire consumed all his personal belongings.

Mr Fred Obroh, a manager with Ufuoma Motors, also reported that the inferno claimed two of their vehicles.

15 die in Onitsha auto crash

FIFTEEN people were crushed to death yesterday, in an early hour auto crash involving a truck loaded with two 40 feet containers, which lost control and fell on passersby at the foot of the Niger Bridge in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State.

Eyewitness told NEWSMEN t that the accident occurred when the driver of the truck, which lost control, ran into other oncoming vehicles as he tried to escape from street urchins who usually collect emblem fees for the state government in the place.

The truck, with registration number XM 858 MUS, was said to have caused multiple accidents involving seven other vehicles, out of which were four commercial buses and three other private vehicles going to Asaba from Onitsha.

Some of the vehicles were crushed beyond recognition, while others fell into ditches in the cause of the accident.

Most of the occupants in the commercial buses, who died immediately, were identified by the vehicles’ registration numbers: XA 556 BUR, XD 566 ABN, XA 893 ACA and AWK 526 XA.

An eyewitness, who narrowly escaped death in one of the affected commercial buses, Mrs. Rose Iwuno, said she boarded the vehicle going towards the Toll Gate, Asaba, to purchase some house items before the accident occurred.

‘We were going to Asaba through the other lane but suddenly, our driver noticed that the driver of the truck with two containers coming into Onitsha had lost control of his truck as he drove roughly on the road.

‘Our driver tried to swerve and dodge the oncoming truck, but it was too late as he rammed into vehicles on both sides of the road. Most of those in our bus passed out.

All I could remember was a heavy sound that occurred when one of the containers from the truck fell off and crushed a bus in front of us before rolling down towards our own bus,’ she explained.

Mrs. Iwuno said the 40 ft. container fell off from the truck when the driver lost control, resulting in the heavy truck skidding off the road and was running at the other lane, after which it rammed at one of the heavy pillars at the bridgehead and then somersaulted.

She added, ‘The number of casualties as it stands now, I cannot count but all I can tell you is see that bus that was smashed, I don’t think that anybody will come out of it alive, because the containers were very heavy and there was no Road Safety officer to help, so the casualties definitely will reach up to 20.’

The Moment checks at the scene revealed that some of the victims of the multiple accidents were dismembered. While some fell into the ditch when the accident occurred, one of the victims, who was still trapped under the container was gasping for air, but could not be helped.

A victim who was cut into two during the accident was sighted still crying for help, but when sympathisers tried to lift the heavy container, it proved impossible and the people watched helplessly as the victim gave up the ghost.

It was learnt that no help could come the way of four other persons also trapped under the container as at 8.30 a.m. There was no single officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to help evacuate the injured victims.

The only help came from the Acting Police Area Commander, Onitsha, and the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) of Fegge Police Station, Mr. Rowland Omatoje and Tafida respectively.

The incident, however, took another dimension when angry mob went on rampage and set the makeshift office of the emblem collectors on the ever busy Onitsha/Asaba highway ablaze, but the urchins took to their heels.

Help finally came when workers of the Consolidated Construction Company (CCC), who came with their heavy equipment, joined sympathisers to lift the container and evacuate the dismembered bodies of the victims to an undisclosed mortuary. The injured victims were also taken to hospitals.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, confirmed the incident, saying only two persons died. He said only five vehicles were involved, with some of their occupants severely injured.

As at the time of filing this report, the new Unit Commander of FRSC, Onitsha, Mr.Fredrick Oko, who could not give the number of casualties, said he was still collating, but confirmed the multiple accidents.

Family of six dies in motor accident along Dutse-Kano road

HUSBAND, wife and four of their children have died following a ghastly motor accident between Dutse and Kiyawa along Maiduguri/ Kano Road, as they all perished after the car had a head-on collision with a truck and immediately went up in flames.

 The accident which occurred at about 5.30 a.m. on Friday occurred about eight Kilometres away from Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, when the Toyota Corolla car conveying the family, which was probably traveling for the forthcoming Christmas festivity, collided with the truck. 

 The bodies of the victims were burnt to ashes from the intense fire, as the family could not be rescued despite the arrival of the Federal Road Safety Corp marshals at the scene of the accident, the Jigawa State Sector Commandant, Malam Muhammad Hussain told newsmen. Malam Hussain who explained to newsmen how the accident occurred, noted that the vehicle might have been coming from Maiduguri with the family, heading to an unknown destination before they met their untimely death. 

 He said the affected Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number BB 987 RBC, had a head-on collision with an oncoming truck with registration number XA 674 MAR, while attempting to overtake a trailer, adding that the accident was fifth fatal accident that occurred in the state within three days, which have resulted in the untimely death of 12 people. Malam Muhammad called on any family whose relatives travelled in the car with the registration number earlier stated to contact the state sector commandant of road safety for more information. 

 He also warned travellers to be extra careful while on the road in order to have a safe trips and to enjoy fuller lives, while stressing that the state sector of the FRSC’s intention to embark on massive roads patrol in conjunction with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Civil Defense Corps would checkmate the flagrant abuse of road traffic regulations throughout the state. 

 He added that already, the state FRSC has mobilised its 150 personnel that would be fully on duty throughout the festive period of Christmas and the New Year with a view to guaranteeing adherence to road use regulations. Share

Fatal accident along Abuja-Lokoja expressway, dead bodies everywhere (shocking photos)

A shocking accident just occurred along Abuja-Lokoja expressway, todaysgist.com has learned. As at the time of going to the press, no one really knows what exactly happened. 

A bus passing by had to stop to help the only three survivors of the accident as the rest died on the spot. The survivors, who are still fighting for their lives, are not in good shape to talk yet.

Our staffs (especially the females) burst into cries as they saw these photographs. Something like this has never happened in our office before. 

Why is our government doing this to us? It’s beginning to seem to us that the new motor of the Nigerian government is: Let’s kill all our citizens before the year 2020. 

The rate Nigerians are dying through road accidents is becoming very alarming. Does it mean that the people in the government aren’t watching the news or reading the papers? Why are Nigerian media not making this issue priority – instead of publishing about million dollar weddings and parties by fat cow politicians? We’re still in great shock as we publish this. festival of death :68 killed in attack, road accidents

NO fewer than 68 persons were reportedly killed while property worth millions of Naira were destroyed yesterday in Benue Gombe and Kogi states.

In Benue State, 50 lives were lost in a renewed attack on Tiv community in Guma Local Government of the state by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The Fulani/Tiv crisis was reportedly spreading towards Makurdi, Benue State capital yesterday, with refugees fleeing the war zone and streaming into the metropolis.

This came as eight persons died on the Lokoja-Abuja road yesterday.

NEWSMEN garthered the areas hardest hit by the renewed attack in Benue State include Tiv settlements at Dooga, Kpata, Lokobi Ajimaka, Ekeae, Giza, Yogbo and Mbagwem communities.

Those fleeing from the area with their wives and children from Kpata village, said the number of the dead could exceed 50 stressing that as many as 350 persons were yet to be accounted for.

Mr. Tyopine Agar who fled from one of the communities told Vangurd: “Many of our people were in the farms when the crisis erupted and till now no one knows their whereabouts.”

Agar said the Fulani herdsmen who were assisted by the people residing on the border of Benue and Nasarawa states in Doma town laid siege on their villages, shooting and burning both their houses and property.

Moved by the level of devastation in the communities, the Speaker of the Benue House of Assembly, Mr. Dave Iyorhemba, who paid an unscheduled visit to some of the refugees now camped at the Local Government Education Authority, LGEA, Primary School, Kadroko, lamented the recurrent attack on the Tiv communities by herdsmen.

Iyorhemba who asked the people to remain calm, regretted the insensitivity of the Nasarawa State Government to the plight of the victims and urged both the Benue and Nasarawa governments to take decisive steps to check the further carnage in the affected communities.

He also implored the two states to implement recommendations of the peace committee they had earlier set up by releasing a white paper on findings of the panel set up in June to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the recurrent crisis.

He said: “Aside being the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, the people affected in these skirmishes are my constituents and Tiv communities affected in Nasarawa State have contributed in no small measure to the socio-economic development of the state and therefore deserve the protection of that state government.

What is happening is rather unfortunate and heart rendering. On the part of the Benue State government we have already started releasing relief materials to the displaced people but unfortunately no such assistance is coming from the Nasarawa State government.”

He called on the National Emergency Management Agency to move in with relief materials to thousands of displaced persons.

The Village Head of Dooga, one of the ravaged villages, Zaki Tsashaku, lamented the level of devastation in the community just as he urged the Benue and Nasarawa state governments to jointly deploy security personnel to the affected communities before the crises would spread o major towns in both states.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 10 persons lost their lives while several others sustained serious injuries in an auto crash at Bagali village, along Bauchi – Gombe road.

An eyewitness whose name could not be immediately known said the accident happened when a truck with number plate XA491 DAS over-took another vehicle at a bend and crashed into three Vectra Opel cars killing 10 persons instantly.

The truck driver and other passengers sustained various degrees of injuries and were evacuated to a hospital by officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC. An official of FRSC who pleaded anonymity confirmed the story adding that 10 persons died while those injured are being treated at the Bauchi General Hospital.

He attributed the accident to wrong over -taking, saying the corpses were deposited at the Bauchi General Hospital Mortuary.

Five Members Of The Same Family Dies In Car Crash

Five members of the same family were yesterday killed in a car accident that occurred along Kano express road at Tamburawa Bridge.

The victims were travelling in a Mercedes Benz car from Zaria to Kano when the driver skipped off the track.

Eyewitnesses said the driver lost control when he ran in to a deep pothole at the edge of the bridge, adding that efforts made by local divers to rescue them failed. The Fire Service however managed to bring out the bodies of the deceased.

The Kano Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Hassan Kogari confirmed the accident. He blamed the poor condition of the road for the accident, adding that no fewer than 34 lives have been lost in the past six months in similar crashes.

Kogari appealed to the Federal Government and other relevant authorities to commence repairs on that particular portion of the bridge in order to avert further loss of lives.
