WAEC Blames Borno Governor For Chibok Abductions
Now that the whole wide world is interested in the abduction of the chibok girls, answers are coming from every corners and suddenly more information on the abduction are coming out. The Chibok girls were abducted when they were sitting for WAEC and the Head of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Charles Eguridu has revealed that it was the Borno State Governor who pressurized his team to conduct examinations for the abducted girls in Chibok.
He made the disclosure at a stakeholders meeting convened by the First Lady, Patience Jonathan to seek a solution for the missing girls which has received widespread local and international attention.
Eguridu said WAEC asked that the exams be conducted in Maiduguri which is much safer
than Chibok, however his request was rebuffed by the governor who assured of security in the small town where the girls were abducted.
“Following the previous experience, we were afraid to go to the North East this year, yet
we risked it and asked for extra security through the Minister of Education, Nyesom
Wike.
“We also asked the various state governments to relocate all the centres to the state
capitals where there would be adequate security.
“The three governors did not respond to our request but instead said they had made
adequate security arrangements.
“The Borno State government also refused to relocate the students from Chibok to safer
places like Maiduguri. The Borno State government only agreed to relocate the
remaining 189 pupils to Uba after the abduction of the girls.
“On the overall, 530 students registered for WAEC at the Chibok center: 135 males and
395 girls,” he said. The WAEC boss presented the students bio data containing the passport photographs of all the 530 candidates that registered at the Chibok centre for this year’s examination.
He also tendered letters written to three North Eastern Governors by WAEC asking
that the Governors conduct the exam in safer areas. It was only Shettima who requested,
and at the last minute, that the exams be held in Chibok....culled
They should be questioning the governor and the school head after this info .

Revealed: Iranians paid me to kill IBB, Sokoto Sultan, Dasuki, others - Cleric
A Nigerian Islamic scholar has told how an insurgent group based in Iran contracted him to spy on and assassinate prominent Nigerians including former military president General Ibrahim Babangida and former Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki as well as American and Jewish citizens.
The State Security Service, SSS, yesterday paraded Mallam Abdullahi Mustapha Berende, a 50 year old Islamic cleric from Kwara State, who was tracked down by the service operatives while he and his lieutenants were gathering valuable information for the Iranian insurgents.
But for the keen alertness of operatives of SSS the suspect, a Shiite Islamic Sect scholar in Ilorin, Kwara State, would have carried his plot to assassinate former President Ibrahim Babangida and former Sultan of Sokoto, Ibrahim Dasuki in order to cause havoc in the Western part of the country.
The Shiite leader, along with three of his accomplices, were said to be collaborating with some unnamed Iranians, known to be operating a high profile international terrorist network, to carry out the killings.
The suspects were also said to have been plotting against and spying on American, Isreali and some other Western countries’ interests in the country and had plotted to attack such facilities.
Berenda relocated from Ilorin to Lagos and with money running into several millions gotten from the Iranian insurgents planned to expand his tentacles to other South West states.
Briefing newsmen on the development, deputy director (Public Relations) of the SSS, Marilyn Ogar, explained that for six months, the service was on the trail of the suspects so as to determine their probable course of action and to stop them from executing their plans.
Berende, who looked sombre and forlorn when he was brought in before newsmen, admitted having carried out the acts, but pleaded for forgiveness and leniency.
According to him, “I regret what happened. It is embarrassing to me and everyone around me. I still plead for forgiveness; the whole nation and my family should forgive me and I really regret my actions.
When people who are not known to you display friendship, one should be careful because you may not know the person’s motives. There are people out there hunting for people to exploit and use to achieve their objectives.
Nigeria Islamists k*ll 10 Christians,burn 3 churches
Ten Christians had their throats slit and militants killed two police officers during attacks on churches and border posts in a fresh wave of violence in northern Nigeria, officials reported on Sunday.
The Islamist group Boko Haram was thought to be behind the slaughter of the Christians late on Saturday in the northern town of Chibok, local officials said. The attackers came in around 9:00 pm chanting 'Allahu Akbar', which made us suspect they are Boko Haram,' said a local government official on condition of anonymity.
'They moved into selected homes in the predominantly Christian part of the town and slaughtered 10 people like sheep,' the official added.Who else apart from Boko Haram members would go into homes and slit the throats of 10 people?' said another local official.
'They came armed with guns but decided to butcher their victims.
Local resident Ezekiel Damina said: 'The men came in large numbers and went into homes which... were carefully selected, and slaughtered 10 people while shouting 'Allahu Akbar' (God is Greatest).
'They then set houses in the area on fire. They just sacked the neighbourhood.'
The group was also suspected of being behind a series of attacks Sunday on churches and border posts in northeastern Nigeria, which according to residents left at least two policemen dead.
Around 50 gunmen in cars and on motorcycles carried out attacks on three churches and border posts with neighbouring Cameroon, opening fire on police, residents said.Among the security posts burned were offices for immigration, customs and the secret police and a quarantine building in the city of Gamboru Ngala, about 140 kilometres (80 miles) from the Boko Haram stronghold of Maiduguri.
Gunmen went into town 'chanting 'Allahu Akbar' and burned down the divisional police station and three churches,' said Hamidu Ahmad, a resident.I saw two bodies in police uniform not far from the police station. One of them was sprawled by the roadside while the other was seated in a police van,' another resident, Sani Kani said.
Another local witness gave the same report but said it was not immediately clear whether worshippers had been in the churches at the time of the attacks.Residents reported gun battles between the assailants and police reinforcements who arrived from Maiduguri.
Police and the army could not immediately be reached for comment.
Boko Haram has often targeted churches in its bloody insurgency, as well as police and other symbols of the establishment in Nigeria.

Terrorism: Army To Kick Civilians Out Of Barracks
THE military has commenced the mass eviction of civilians from barracks across the country, Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, said on Thursday.
The eviction of non-soldiers from barracks is coming on the heels of two successful attacks by suspected terrorists in the first two days of this week.
Two car bombers had on Sunday struck at the St. Andrew Military Protestant Church inside the prestigious Armed Forces Command and Staff College, in Jaji, near Kaduna. The college houses the officers and men of the Infantry Centre and School as well as the Nigerian Army Peace Keeping Centre .
Also on Monday, gunmen, numbering 40, launched an attack on the office of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Abuja, where suspects were being held. Two policemen and one of the gunmen were killed in the incident.
Ihejirika said at the closing of the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference in Asaba, Delta State, that he had already issued a directive to commanders in charge of military formations to take immediate action in ridding the military formations of illegal occupants.
The COAS also warned that the leadership of the Army would ensure that reported lapses were treated decisively.
He said, “That one (purging the barracks of illegal occupants) is obvious. I have already informed the commanders and they know. The commanders would not wait for the Chief of Army Staff before taking action. Rather, from next week, I want to see action in respect of illegal squatters and similar things.”
The Commander in charge of Army Engineering, Maj. Gen. Olaniyi, who took the last presentation at the conference, had called attention to the fact that barracks being rehabilitated were accommodating a large number of civilians in places like the Ikeja Cantonment and Asaba.
Olaniyi, who said that the Ojo Cantonment had become haven for criminals, warned that unless decisive steps were taken, even foreigners would be more than soldiers in some rehabilitated barracks.
He had said that the number of civilians living in the cantonment was even more than that of soldiers.
Ihejirika insisted that the bombing at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College was avoidable, stressing that absence a perimeter fence did not offer any commander an excuse to allow such an incident to happen.
He said that about 80 of the barracks in the country had not been fenced and urged the commanders to put in their best in the area of intelligence gathering and security maintenance.
Meanwhile, Ihejirika has promised Nigerians “a more comprehensive action by the military and all the security agencies” in 2013.
He said that the military would be decisive in 2013, stressing that it was part of the decision of the conference that unit commanders must pay more attention to effective liaison, supervision and monitoring of personnel under them.
The COAS said, “Nigerians should expect more comprehensive action by the military and all the security agencies. Part of the decisions arrived at is that unit commanders should liaise more and they should supervise and monitor their personnel more closely than they had done in the past. So 2013 would be decisive.”
He said that the Nigerian Army had been collaborating with other security agencies, including the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian Intelligence Agency and foreign bodies to enhance intelligence gathering and dissemination.
He said the conference also agreed on the need for “national intelligence fusion” to enhance intelligence gathering.
He said, “The conference also emphasised the need for national intelligence fusion. What it means is that all the various measures are going to be fast tracked to ensure that intelligence is further enhanced.
“And you should know that it is a running battle because the people you are fighting are people within the country. So they know what measures you are even taking. They know that. So that is why I also drew the attention of commanders to devise new tactics in dealing with the problem.
“Certain groups are going to be set up too to monitor the commanders in the field and, no mistake about it, command responsibility is one area we will emphasise more next year.”
Ihejirika also ordered the painting of all operational vehicles of the Nigerian Army donated by state governments, corporate bodies, in Army colour.
He also said that the different uniforms of the Army should be used only for authorised specified activities.
Also on Thursday, the Agence France Presse reported that Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, had expressed solidarity with global jihadists, saying the United States and Britain “should witness that we are with our mujahedeen brothers.”
Shekau, in the 39-minute video posted on jihadists forum, was quoted to have said in Arabic that,”The world should witness, and America, Britain, Nigeria and other crusaders, meaning America and Britain, should witness, and the Jews of Israel who are killing the Muslims in Palestine should witness… that we are with our mujahedeen brothers in the cause of Allah everywhere.”
New Sect Claims Responsibility For SARS Headquarters Onslaught In Abuja
Another radical Islamist sect- Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis Sudan which first made itself known five months ago, has claimed responsibility for yesterday, Monday early morning attack on the Police SARS Headquaters in Apo area of the FCT.
The new group when it first emerged in opposition to Boko Haram’s tactics, disclosed that it did not believe in killing innocent non Muslims except “in self defense or if they attack Muslims like the cases we have in Jos”. And while the Boko Haram considers any security agents including the para military whether big or the smallest rank as a ‘legitimate’ target for elimination , the Ansar group said they don’t believe in killing innocent security operatives except if they are attacked by them or in self defense.
The name Jamaatul Ansarul Muslimina fi Biladin Sudan meaning the Group that dedicates itself to helping Muslims in Africa, was created to correct the concept, meaning and purpose of Jihad in Islam.
But Monday’s attack has cast aspersion on the above claims. Below is the unedited excerpt of the email claiming responsibility:
“In the name of Allah most Graciuos most Merciful
“The Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis-sudan is hereby declaring by Allah’s grace to be the responsible for the attack held on 12th Muharram, 1334 – 26th November, 2012, on S.A.R.S. detention facility in Garki area II, Abuja Nigeria.
“Allah SWT has obligated us to help those that are oppressed, especially those oppressions that is taking place in the security cells, prisons and other detention centers etc. and has become part of the main functions and basics that form Jama’atu Ansasrul Muslimina fi Biladissudan.
“we are stating loud and clear that many of those captured by the Nigerian security or by the Christian in Plateau state such as the women and children in Langtang, Yalwan Shandam etc to mention but a few. by Allah’s grace we are matching towards their freedom.
“lastly, we are calling upon all Muslims to come and joined hands with us in carrying out this noble duty that Allah SWT has commanded us to do, Allah SWT said: “And what is the matter with you that you fight not in the cause of ALLAH, and for the feeble amon.”

Nigeria’s security forces appear to be gaining grounds in the fight
against militancy in the northern part of the country as they announced
the capture of a top commander of Boko Haram during a raid on the home
of a high-level national politician in Maiduguri.
Lt. Col Sagir Musa, spokesman for the Joint Task Force (JTF) said in a

in the custody of the JTF and assisting in the investigation and has
since made startling revelations.”
Although Sagir did not state the relationship between the captured
commander and late Habibu Bama, who was killed in Damaturu, and the name
of the serving Nigerian lawmaker, sources said the suspect was arrested
in a high brow area in Maiduguri axis of Borno State.
Another source said that crack security team have been trailing Bama,

Robbers, not terrorists, behind Nigeria mosque killing'
The Nigeria police have said Sunday morning's attack on Muslim
worshipers by gunmen in Dogon Dawa village in the country's northern
Kaduna state, which left at least 21 people dead and many others
injured, was likely perpetrated by armed robbers.
'We are suspecting a reprisal attack by a gang of armed robbers who lost some of their members after a recent raid on their hideout by the combined effort of the police, villagers and some vigilance group (in the village),' the local media quoted the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Olufemi Adenaike, as saying in Kaduna, the state capital.
He said the poor telecommunications network in the area, located some 120 kms from Kaduna, had prevented him from getting the full details of the attack, but promised to reveal more details when the officers he dispatched there returns to the state capital.
The police boss' statement effectively ruled out speculations that the killing was perpetrated by the Islamic sect Boko Haram, which has been active in the state and its environs.
During the attack, several gunmen fired on the worshipers as they were returning from the mosque where they had gone for their early morning prayers.

Atleast 30 killed including women and children as Boko Haram attack market
Suspected Nigerian Islamists Boko Haram opened fire and set off bombs at a market in Maiduguri on Monday, killing at least 30 people, a medic and a witness said.
Gunmen believed to be members of the Islamist sect Boko Haram stormed the Baga market and opened fire indiscriminately, traders said, reporting that women and children were among the dead.
“The number of dead could not be less than 30,” a Maiduguri hospital nurse told AFP.
The military confirmed the assault on the market but denied any civilian deaths, saying security forces had killed eight assailants and safely detonated bombs planted by the attackers.
“At about 1:30 (1230 GMT) this afternoon at Baga market of Maiduguri metropolis some gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram attacked and shot civilians at the market,” Lieutenant Colonel Hassan Mohammed, spokesman of a special military unit in the city, told AFP.
He said several people had been wounded but that there was “no civilian death at this time”.
The military “immediately came to the rescue of the situation and safely detonated three bombs planted by members of the sect and shot and killed eight members of the sect.”
However, one trader who have his name as Mairami said six gunmen stormed the food and commodities market and “opened fire indiscriminately. At least 30 people including women and children were killed.”
Another vendor by the name Gana gave a similar account of the attack in the city, Boko Haram’s stronghold.
“The gunmen just opened fire killing people. I saw three military vans piled with bodies leaving the market. There were several explosions after the shooting,” Gana said.
The attackers had accused traders of collaborating with the military following the arrest last week of a suspected Boko Haram member in the market, witnesses said.
Mairami said one gunman shouted angrily that traders had “teamed up with soldiers” to help arrest members of the sect, which has been blamed for a wave of deadly attacks in the mainly Muslim north of Nigeria.
“‘We have henceforth waged war against you’,” Mairami said the gunman had declared, before spraying bullets on both vendors and customers.
Last week, traders overpowered a gunmen suspected to be a Boko Haram member and handed him over to the military.
Fresh:Suspected Nigeria Islamists kill five in north
Gunmen shot dead five people in their homes in two northern Nigerian cities on Monday, security forces said, the latest in a string of deadly attacks by suspected members of the Boko Haram Islamist sect.
"Two people have been shot dead today by Boko Haram in Maiduguri," the operations officer for the remote northeastern city, Victor Ebheleme, told Reuters.
"The area in which the attack took place has been cordoned off and the killers have been trailed, but no arrests have been made yet."
Three Chadians were also killed in the volatile city of Damaturu, police commissioner for the city and its surrounding state of Yobe, Lawal Tanko, said.
Boko Haram wants sharia law applied across Nigeria, which is roughly split equally between Christians and Muslims. The group's low level insurgency has intensified in the past year, becoming a major security headache for President Goodluck Jonathan.
Jonathan declared a state of emergency in several regions in Nigeria on December 31, closing Nigeria's borders with Niger, Cameroon and Chad, after a spate of Christmas Day attacks on churches and other targets.
Gunmen shot dead two Chadians on Sunday, as well, authorities said.
Maiduguri is Boko Haram's heartland and Damaturu is increasingly a focal point for its militant activity.
Damaturu was the scene of fierce gunbattle between the military and Boko Haram on December 24, when more than 50 people were killed, mostly sect members.
