"We don't know where they came from. They attacked us with rocket launchers and other explosives," Barrister Bukata Zhadi, Secretary of the Sayawa Elders' Council told the press. Also many residents confirmed that they heard explosions and sounds of gunfire from different parts of the town, leading the chaos in many parts of the State.
Militant fighters said to be Boko Haram members attacked,several towns in Bauchi State, including the city centre, on Sunday morning between 2am and 5am with all grades of ammunition and military weaponry.
Eyewitnesses said a police station in Tafawa Balewa and another military checkpoint in an area known as Marar Rabar Liman Katagun were attacked by Boko Haram gunmen.
The police commissioner in Bauchi State confirmed that a bomb exploded near a railway line in Bauchi Township. Another source said three explosions were heard near IBB Square and the Jahun area.
The CP said his men repelled the attackers in Tafawa Balewa area. He however could not give details of casualty as the attack was still on when he spoke to a media on phone.
Tension has grown in Bauchi township in recent times where another Islamic sect known as "JIBWIS" is having an annual conference. The BIBWIS sect, founded by late Sheik Jafar Mahmud Adams, is reportedly opposed to the doctrine of Boko Haram.
