THE Edo State government Wednesday ordered the temporary closure of two orphanages in the state over non compliance with the standing rules and regulations governing child care institutions.
A statement by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief (Dr) Inumidun Idehen gave the names of the orphanages as Compassion Orphanages Home, No. 8, Nosakhare Street, Off Upper Mission Road, and Omosefe Orphanage Home at No. 4, Edo Osagie Street, Off Akpakpava Road, Benin City.
She disclosed that the Orphanages were closed down temporarily to enable the Ministry carryout detailed investigation of their operation.
“We expect that the operators of the two orphanage homes will cooperate with the Ministry and other relevant authorities in the case of our investigation. The welfare of our vulnerable children is uppermost in our minds”, she said.
