Armed robbers snatch LG workers salary

Suspected armed robbers yesterday made away with the March salary of staff of Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State. NEWSMEN gathered that in the early hours of yesterday, unknown persons suspected to be armed robbers stormed the accounts department of the council, broke the door, and made away with the money. 

 Some of the workers, who spoke to Daily Trust, said they were shocked because they were expected to collect their salaries yesterday. They urged Governor Isa Yuguda to intervene in the matter. The deputy caretaker chairman of the local government, Alhaji Kamisu Abdu told newsmen that the incident occurred around 2pm. Abdu described the incident as unfortunate and detestable, but added that no casualties were recorded.

 He called on security agents to intensify efforts to bring the culprits to book. He said the staff of the council’s accounts department were compiling their reports, adding that it is after that is done, that the amount stolen would be known. Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Ladan confirmed the incident, saying, “It is true that workers salary has been stolen, but we are investigating.”
