All things being equal, Nigeria may get its first female Chief Justice as the current occupant of the office, Justcie Dahiru Musdapher is set to quit office on July 14, 2012. There were indications that Justice Mariam Alooma Mukhtar, who is the most senior Justice of the Superme Court, may succeed Musdapher.

Justice Aloma Mukhtar, who hails from Kano State, is the first female Justice of the Supreme Court. She was born in 1944 and was called to the Nigerian Bar on June 26, 1967.
