One injured as bomb explodes in Jos

A late evening bomb that exploded yesterday night at Tudun Wada area in Jos North local Government Area of Plateau State has injured one person leaving several vehicles damaged. The explosion, according to witnesses, occurred at about 8:30pm near a motor park in the area when a yet to be identified person, left the bomb on a motorcycle which exploded minutes later.

“The explosion injured only one person but several vehicles were affected by the blast, but we thank God that no one died from the blast.” a resident who preferred anonymity told our correspondent. This latest bomb explosion in Jos came barely a month after a bomb exploded at the St. Finbarr’s Catholic Church in Ray Field, which claimed some lives and just three days after the use of motorcycle for the Easter period was banned.

The ban on the use of motorcycle during the Easter period was employed by security agencies for the purpose of curtailing such incident where suicide bombers sometimes use motorcycles, our correspondent further reports. Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Samuel Dabai, who confirmed the incident said the injured person was taken to the Plateau state Specialists Hospital in Jos for treatment.

Spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Yusha’u Shuaibu, confirmed that an explosion has occurred in Tudun Wada area of Jos at a park. He said security personnel had moved to the scene as the injured were being evacuated.
