“He moved to Kano from Bulunkutu Abuja quarters in Maiduguri in April this year. He confessed to have participated in series of attacks, killings of policemen and military personnel in the state, including the recent attack and killings in Bayero University Kano,” Kano State Police Command said.
The state command on Monday paraded Augustine Effiong, a Boko Haram member from Akwa Ibom State. The police said 25-year-old Effiong is an indigene of Akwa Ibom but was born in Borno State and later converted to Islam, bearing the name Abubakar Garba.
According to the police, the suspect was arrested last Friday while attempting to murder a civilian at Danlasan village in Kano State.
Effiong, who also claimed to have taken the lives of “many” people in the course of fighting for his group, said he joined the militant group in Borno State and moved to Kano to participate in the attack on BUK... He has been flown to Abuja for further interrogation.
