Panic in Kano as police uncover 4 explosives

Uneasy calm pervaded the ancient city of Kano, Wednesday, following the discovery of high calibre explosive devices behind a popular bakery located along Rijiyar Zaki quarters of the state. An eyewitness told Vanguard that no fewer than four high calibers of Improvised Explosive Devices IED were discovered around the area by a security conscious resident who reported to the appropriate authority. 

 The discovery followed a similar one uncovered on Tuesday inside the lecture hall of Federal College of Education, Kano, which caused panic among the students and subsequent disruption of academic activities in the institution. However, trooped movement towards the area and diversion of traffic on the highway by security agents further fueled nervousness among resident as several motorists and commuters were compelled to abandoned the road for their safety.

 Meanwhile, the Police authority in the trouble city has assured that there was no cause for alarm as security agencies are on top of the situation and subsequently enjoined residents to go about their legitimate businesses without fear or molestation. 

 The Kano Public Relation Officer, DSP Rilwanu Muhammad Dutse told newsmen on telephone that “there was no fresh bomb uncovered in the area”, stressing that “ it was leftover of IED’s used by the extremist in a failed attack on our patrol vehicle last Sunday” Dutse explained that “the deployment of anti- bomb squad to the scene on Wednesday was principally to defuse the IED’s”, adding that a sponsored message on Radio station forewarning the public not to panic upon hearing a loud sound were on air in the state.
