In a bid to reduce the rising number of HIV infected persons in Jigawa state, the state Action Committee on Aids have joined 30 persons in holy matrimony under the matchmaking scheme it initiated.
Executive Secretary of the Jigawa Action Committee on Aids, Dr. Bashir Ahmad, confirmed the marriages in Dutse the state capital.
The agency has so far collaborated with the Central Bank of Nigeria to train HIV positive women on self-sustaining ventures. Ahmad said.
“The agency is encouraging marriages between the HIV positive persons to control transmission of the disease.
“We are also providing skills acquisition training and resettlement packages to beneficiaries of the training programme.”
The Executive Secretary also blamed stigmatization as one of the transmission agents amongst the rural dwellers in the state, saying it has risen to 2.8 per cent.
