National Association of Kano state Students , Bayero University Kano chapter has threatened to scuttle the fragile peace currently enjoy in the state during the forthcoming Eid Fitr if the Kwankwaso led administration fail to offset backlog of scholarship allowance due to its members.
Eid Fitr is barely 10 days now and the ancient city of Kano is one of the many states in the federation facing security challenges following a devastating attack on January 20th that claimed no fewer than 186 lives.
In a peaceful protest in Kano yesterday, hundreds of students chanting anti Government slogan decried what they described as “Kwankwaso led Government insensitivity to their plight over the unpaid allowances” totaling up to several millions of naira last three years.
The students also in a letter addressed to the Kano state Commissioner , Ministry of Higher Education, Farouk Sambo Iya , signed by its President and Secretary Jamilu Garba Ibrahim and Zaharadeen Usman respectively copy made available to Saturday Vanguard gave Government one week ultimatum to settle the allowances or face street protest.
The letter reads in part “BUK students have given Kano state Government a maximum of one week to settle the students so as to celebrate their Eid Fitr happily or otherwise students will come out in mass to protest for their right”
