Leadership is about knowing how to motivate your subjects and make them happy while they keep doing their job effectively. The Nigeria Army has approved the promotion of 5,000 soldiers fighting Boko Haram insurgents and others involved in other operations, as part of steps to boost their morale.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, made the announcement yesterday in Abuja, at the opening of the 2015 Chief of Army Staff Third Quarter conference at Army Headquarters.

He said that the promotion of the soldiers was done to boost the morale of troops and reposition its operations.
He also said that it was in line with the vision of the Army command to reward gallant troops in any way deemed fit to boost their combat readiness and willingness to serve their fatherland.

He said:
“Since we came on board, we have introduced several measures aimed at encouraging our troops to give their best in the service of their nation.
“The approval of the accelerated promotion of 5,000 soldiers was to redeem the promise made by my predecessor to the troops fighting insurgents in the North-East.
“It is my belief that this promotion, coupled with other incentives, will encourage our troops to fight for our country.”

We all saw the video clips released showing foreign mecenaries help to bombard Boko haram strong hold aerially while Nigeria soldiers attacked from the ground. Despite the success of the mission, many Nigerians are appalled the army couldn't carry out such attacks on the their own .
President-elect Buhari has berated the military for enlisting foreign mercenaries to fight Boko Haram.
According to Vanguard, he spoke in Kaduna while hosting the National Executive Council of the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF.
The military has never been so incapacitated like now. It is a shame that the Military cannot secure 14 out of the 774 local governments in the country.
“What is more worrisome is the fact that Nigeria’s military has to rely on South African mercenaries before it could gain recent success in the war against Boko Haram. This situation is shameful and unacceptable.
“My administration will concentrate on three major areas on assumption of office, that is insecurity, the economy/unemployment and corruption. We will ensure we nip insecurity in the bud.”

There are new photos circulating on the internet which sources say were released by the Nigerian Armed forces about how the army is wining the war against terrorism. Just this last week, millitary sources claimed to have successfully repelled two attacks on the Borno State capital Maiduguri during which they killed hundreds of fighters and seized a lot of weapons.
Over the weekend, Boko Haram made two brazen attempts to take the well-fortified Maiduguri but was repelled by the Nigerian Army and local vigilantes. After a gun battle that lasted over 12 hours, the Nigerian military said it killed hundreds of terrorists and seized a lot of equipment including a British-made Vickers tank. One senior army officer said the Boko Haram fighters were everywhere, attacking from all four roads leading to Maiduguri during the assault but were beaten back. Another officer said, as many as 500 insurgents were killed before they took flight and many weapons were recovered including artillery guns and rocket-propelled grenades.

On Saturday, Chadian forces reclaimed the northeastern town of Gamboru-Ngala near the border, after a heated battle with Boko Haram that involved a ground and air campaign. These Chadian forces were working under the African Union agreement that will involve member states sending 7,500 troops to help Nigeria fight the Boko Haram insurgency. Nigeria's army has struggled to contain Boko Haram, which is seeking to build a caliphate ruled by Islamic sharia law. Last April, Boko Haram sparked international outrage when it kidnapped 276 schoolgirls from Chibok in Borno State.
