Nigeria set to launch rocket into orbit

ABUJA – Following the successful launch of SAT- 2 and SAT- X to the orbit on August 17, the Federal Government is set to launch its own rocket into space.

Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Ita Okon Bassey Ewa, stated this when he received a nine-man delegation from Nigerian Institute of Physics, led by its national president, Professor Emeka Okwueze.

He said the launch of a rocket into space will be Nigeria’s next goal in space technology, adding that the launch of a rocket after the successful launch of SAT-2 and SAT X, would increase knowledge of physics teachers and enable them teach the principles of physics in orbit.

He said: “The launch of rockets into space will be our next port of call.”

Jonathan confirms successful launch of Nigeria’s two satellites

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has confirmed the successful launch yesterday of two new satellites by Nigeria. The two facilities are the Nigeriasat-x designed and built by Nigerian engineers and scientists and Nigeriasat-2, which was built in collaboration with international partners

Jonathan who spoke moments before the weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting in State House Abuja, congratulated Nigerians on the feat, saying that the event has opened a new chapter in the nation’s transformational effort while describing it as a milestone in the drive to solve national problems through space technology.

He said: “I congratulate our nation for his new chapter in our transformational efforts as we strive for self reliance. Let me also congratulate the resourceful Nigerians who made this history possible. We will continue to emphasize investment in science and technology as a tool to drive the transformation agenda of this administration,” he said.

Jonathan urged Nigerian professionals, Ministries, Department and Agencies, MDAs, and the private sector to take advantage and optimize the use of the national assets.
