Police End Four Day Siege Of Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi's Palace

 The Nigeria Police, yesterday, Thursday 12th June, brought its four-day siege to the Emir of Kano’s palace to an end.

The police had on Monday deployed armed personnel in the palace following a series of protests by some youths, who kicked against the emergence of a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Malam Lamido Sanusi, as the new Emir of Kano.

It was learnt that with the end of the siege to the palatial residence of the traditional ruler of the Kano Emirate, preparations have begun to ensure that Sanusi, who had been operating from the state Government House since Monday, relocated to the palace.

Confirming the development, the Director of Press and Public Relations to Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, Baba Dantiye, said that Sanusi would move into the place within the next few days.

“I just got the information that the police have left the palace. Preparations will now start to ensure that the emir relocates to the palace”, he said.

The governor’s spokesperson also disclosed that since policemen had been withdrawn from the Government House, patriotic Kano youths had taken over the responsibility of providing security for the governor.

“Patriotic young men are guarding the Government House now as a result of the withdrawal of policemen by the federal authorities”, Dantiye wrote in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the new Emir on Thursday received the leader of Tijjaniyya sect in Africa, Khalifa Sheikh Isiyaka Rabi’u, at the Government House, Kano.

Dantiye, who made this known in a post on his Facebook page, stated that Rabi’u offered prayers to God to grant the new emir protection and wisdom to rule over his people. Source

Asari Dokubo Slammed For Calling New Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi A Dog

Ex- Niger Delta militant and leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF) Mujahid Asari Dokubo has described the new Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as a dog.
Asari took to his Facebook page to post a photo of a turbaned dog with the caption, "This is how I see Sanusi Lamido Sanusi."

He also tweeted a congratulatory message to the All Progressive Congress, APC on their new Emir while also wondering if the late Emir died a natural death.
Asari is one of the supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan's government, which Sanusi is at loggerheads with.
On the same wall where he uploaded the pictures, he was insulted and slammed by his Facebook friends for disrespecting Islam and the Emir. 

Asari is always in the news for one thing or the other, from declaring there will be war if Boko Haram sect dares him and his men, to declaring that the abduction of Chibok schoolgirls is a scam. He even staged an anti #BringBackOurGirls protest to show he's not convinced about the abduction of schoolgirls in Chibok community, Borno by Boko Haram terrorists on April 14 2014.

Finally!!! PDP Congratulates Sanusi, New Emir Of Kano, On His Inauguration

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finally congratulated Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on his inauguration as emir of Kano, saying it will not play politics with the revered traditional institution.

This follows from a statement issued on Monday, June 9, by the PDP National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh.The party yesterday withdrew its earlier congratulatory message to Sanusi saying it was a misunderstanding.

Metuh said in the Monday statement that the ruling party "has an unflinching reverence for the traditional institution and in that regard extends the same reverence it had for the late Emir to Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi."

But the PDP expects the new emir to remain non-partisan like his predecessor, Metuh added.

"The PDP holds the office of the Emir of Kano in very high esteem. We therefore give the new Emir our prayers and urge him to ensure that the sanctity of the throne and the traditional institution are absolutely guarded and preserved," reads the statement in part.

Calling for calm in Kano, the PDP urged Sanusi to take steps to unite his people.

Sanusi made quite a U-turn in his career when he, the former governor of the Central Bank, emerged the new emir of Kano.

Protests in Kano as Sanusi Lamido emerges as the New Emir Of Kano

Reports have it that some residents of Kano state have taken to the streets to protest the announcement of Nigeria's former Central Bank Governor, Lamido Sanusi Lamido as the new Emir of Kano.

He said the residents of the neighbouring streets trooped out to the palace area in opposition to the choice, shouting “Ba muso, ba muso”, meaning, “We don’t want, we don’t want” in apparent reference to the choice of Sanusi by the state government.

According to him, the angry residents set tyres on fire, mounted road blocks and started throwing stones at passing vehicles.

He said the situation was, however, quelled by the swift arrival of a detachment of police officers, Civil Defence officials as well as members of the state Hisbah.  

Despite the reactions from residents, the state government in a statement issued on Sunday by its secretary, Suleiman Bichi, insisted that: “The state government received their recommendations and Allah has conferred on Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the former governor of the central bank, (the post of) the successor to the late emir". 

The appointment was announced at the state government headquarters in the northern city in the presence of the four so-called “kingmakers” — royal officials who meet in closed session to decide on the succession.The kingmakers considered a number of names and put them forward to the state government for approval.

Sanusi had been tipped to be in the running, as he is the grandson of the late emir’s brother, who had a short-lived reign in the 1960s.

His appointment to the distinguished role comes after a turbulent few months in which he has fought court cases against his suspension and mounted a legal challenge against the confiscation of his passport.

The Emir of Kano is the second most-influential of Nigeria’s triumvirate of Muslim leaders: at the top is the Sultan of Sokoto and number three is the Shehu of Borno.

All three traditional Muslim monarchs are custodians of Islam and lead clerics in their areas. They have also been seen as key figures bridging the often fractious divide between Muslims and Christians in Nigeria.

But they have recently come under pressure to speak out more against the threat posed by the radical Islamist sect, Boko Haram who are currently waging an increasingly violent insurgency in the northern part of the country.

FG Stops Sanusi Lamido From Traveling Abroad, Seizes His Passport

 The State Security Service has prevented the suspended governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, from traveling overseas. Mr. Sanusi was stopped at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, in Kano State, on his way to France for an onward journey to Mecca for the lesser Hajj.

Consequently, Sanusi is returning to the courts again to enforce his rights against the government's impunity.

We have noted with disappointment, the unrelenting attempt by the  Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to falsely portray his recent suspension from office as an attempt by the Presidency to bury his allegation that huge sums of money due to the Federation Account are unaccounted for by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The Presidency wishes to reaffirm that Mallam Sanusi’s suspension has absolutely nothing to do with his unproven and inconsistent claim that $49.8 Billion, $12 Billion or $20 Billion is missing from the national treasury. Continue...

As was clearly stated in the letter suspending him from office and confirmed by President Goodluck Jonathan in his last Presidential Media Chat, Mallam Sanusi’s suspension was wholly based on the need for him to step aside while the weighty charges of financial recklessness, gross misconduct and persistent disregard for laid down rules and regulations in the management of the Central Bank made against him by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and others are properly investigated.

It is most unfortunate that instead of trying to provide some reasonable response to the clear and unambiguous query of his official conduct as Governor of the Central Bank, Mallam Sanusi  has cynically chosen to whip up public sympathy for himself and anger against the Federal Government by deliberately misleading unwary Nigerians and the international community into believing the falsehood that he is being punished for exposing corruption.

In recent days, the suspended CBN Governor has, following in the footsteps of others who have an axe to grind with the government, taken to spreading his false claims and allegations through gullible foreign media correspondents, telling them among other things that his threat to force commercial banks to open up their books to unravel the whereabouts of the “missing” funds whether $49.8 Billion, $12 Billion or $20 Billion, ultimately led to his suspension.

He also continues to make the mischievous claim that the government is somehow involved in a scam to divert huge sums of money from the Federation Account through the misappropriation of kerosene subsidy funds.

Mallam Sanusi’s allegations are patently untrue. But Government is making no effort to bury them as he falsely claims. Relevant committees of the National Assembly are still investigating the claims and the suspended CBN Governor remains free to give evidence before them in support of his allegations.

Furthermore, in keeping with its avowed commitment to full transparency, openness and accountability in governmental affairs, the Federal Government has authorized the engagement of reputable international firms for the recommended forensic audit of NNPC accounts.

The Presidency condemns Mallam Sanusi’s resort to playing politics with serious national issues.  His suggestion that the phantom missing funds may have been diverted to fund campaigns for next year’s general elections is mischievous, irresponsible and designed to incite other political parties and members of the public against the Federal Government.  

The claim which amounts to cheap blackmail against the government and was clearly made in furtherance of a selfish personal agenda is most unbecoming of someone who still holds the High Office of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The Presidency would not ordinarily have wished to join issues with Mallam Sanusi who as CBN Governor remains an appointee of the President, but the very unacceptable manner in which Sanusi has been misinforming the public made it imperative that this statement be issued.

Sanusi sues Jonathan For Suspending him(Read Full details)

Nigerian law is clearly not obeyed or respected as we have recently witnessed its manipulation by people in leadership. First,we heard the President cannot suspend Sanusi without two-thirds of the senate supporting him, now the President himself whom we believe by virtue of his position cannot be sued while in office has been sued in a law court to  rescind his decision on the suspension of Sanusi. 

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has dragged President Goodluck Jonathan before a Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge his suspension.

In a suit filed on his behalf by a team of lawyers led by Kola Awodein (SAN), Sanusi accused Jonathan of punishing him for making public some discrepancies discovered in respect of crude oil sale proceeds repatriated to the Federation Account by the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC) between the period of January, 2012 and July, 2013.

He is asking the court to make an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants “from obstructing, disturbing, stopping or preventing him, in any manner whatsoever, from performing the functions of his office as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and enjoying in full, the statutory powers and privileges attached to the office.”

Urging the court to expeditiously grant his interlocutory application, Sanusi maintained that any delay might cause irreparable and serious damage and mischief on him in the exercise of his statutory duties as the CBN Governor.

He said, “The President’s continuing unlawful interference with the management and administration of the apex bank, unless arrested, poses grave danger for Nigeria’s economy.”

He insisted that the danger his suspension posed to the economy was enough reason for the court to grant his application and as a result make an order for status quo ante bellum to enable him to return to his office as the Governor of the CBN.
