Court Awards N50m as Damages To Man Shot By Police Officer In 2013

An Abuja High Court has awarded the sum of Fifty Million Naira (N50m) as damages to one Mr. Joseph Martins, who was shot at close range by a trigger-happy police officer, during a slight spat at a popular joint and viewing centre in Utako District of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in 2013.

The judgment was delivered yesterday after a long, tedious and almost hopeless wait, and the Court found in favour of the applicant by awarding the said sum against the Nigeria Police Force, for violating his fundamental rights.

In its ruling, the High Court 5 of FCT presided over justice O.O Goodluck, explained that the sum was granted as damages to seek further medical attention for the man, a bricklayer, so that he can adjust to a  normal life again.

It was gathered that the policeman, Sergeant Olumide Ariyo had shot Joseph during a football match between Nigeria and Mexico, for challenging him when he refused to pay for the two bottles of beer her had consumed.

Man Pours Hot Water On Gay Couple in Bed

A man has been arrested and charged with throwing a pot of scalding hot water on a gay couple as they laid in bed in his girlfriend’s apartment.

Authorities in Atlanta are considering filing federal hate crime charges against Martin Blackwell, 48, who is being held in the Fulton County jail without bond.

Blackwell told police he threw “just a little hot water” on the men because he was “disgusted” by their relationship. The attack happened in February this year.

The AJC.com reports that one of the gay men, Anthony Gooden, is the son of Blackwell’s girlfriend. Gooden lived with his mother and Blackwell in her Buffington Road apartment.

Marquez Tolbert suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his neck, back and arms. He spent 10 days at Grady Hospital undergoing painful surgeries to have skin grafted from his thigh to replace the burned areas on his back.

Gooden was released from the hospital on Friday.

“The pain doesn’t let you sleep,” a tearful Tolbert admitted. “It’s just like it’s excruciating 24 hours a day, and it doesn’t go anywhere,” Tolbert said. “It doesn’t dial down, anything. It’s just there.”

Tolbert recalls Blackwell’s rage. “Martin pulled me up and said, ‘Get out of my house with all that gay,'” Tolbert said. “I couldn’t stop screaming.”

He called the scars on his back and arms scars of hate.

“Why else would you pour boiling hot water on somebody?” Tolbert asked.

Second Girl Abducted and Converted to Islam in Sokoto Rescued(Report)

Patience Paul, the alleged schoolgirl abducted in Sokoto state and converted to Islam, has been rescued and will be reunited with her parents today, Saturday March 5th.

Patience's case generated national interest after that of Ese Oruru, the Bayelsa teenager who was taken to Kano by her “lover” without her parents’ consent. Patience’s parents had reported her missing since August 12, 2015, with unconfirmed reports suggesting she was kidnapped and taken to the palace of the sultan of Sokoto for forceful conversion.

Aminu Tambuwal, the state governor, ordered investigation into the saga after it became a media
item during the week. Patience, who was 14 at the time of her abduction, was found on Friday night at the house of one Malam Ibrahim, who calls himself Sarkin Baki (“king of strangers”).

An insider told TheCable:
“The Sokoto State Human Rights Commission, along with the team set up by the police, questioned suspects and detained three persons in connection with the issue.”

Some hisbah (Sharia police) personnel had taken Patience to an imam in Runjin Sambo area of Sokoto with a claim that she wanted to convert to Islam.

The imam asked of her age and was told she was 14. He sought the opinion of the Sultanate Council who directed the imam not to proceed because she was underage and could not make such a “weighty decision” yet. He was instructed to let her go, but the Imam then informed the hisbah.

Rather than let her return to her family house, they took her to the Sarkin Baki who claims he provides residence to indigent persons. The “king of strangers” then kept her in his house since September.

TheCable reports that when investigators met with him Friday night, Patience was seen with his other children and family members. He claimed he adopted the girl because he didn’t want to let her be with the hisbah. He, however, allowed her to be attending both Islamic and government junior secondary school for her education.

A police source told TheCable that when interviewed, Patience claimed she was afraid of returning home because of possible reprisal from her siblings. The alarm Paul Isaac Adaji, father of the teenager, had raised the alarm about her daughter’s disappearance, but it did not gain traction until the case of Oruru started playing out.

Adaji, an Idoma from Benue state, said his daughter was forcefully abducted by hisbah in Gidan Kukah, Runjin Sambo area Sokoto, on August 12, 2015.

Tambuwal, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Imam Imam, directed that the matter be investigated. The inspector general of police then took up the matter.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani Kayode, has reacted to claims by Sahara Reporters that he bribed Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia to quash the money laundering case against him last year.

Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia was yesterday March 2nd, issued a warning and put on the “Watch-List” for the next four years by the National Judicial Council over allegations of corruption.

"SaharaReporters has however learned that Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia has some other undisclosed strikes against her, including obtaining money from former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode to set him free of the corruption charges against him in a case before her.

It would be recalled that last July, Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia discharged and acquitted Fani-Kayode of all the corruption charges against him. In her dismissal of the charges, she described the prosecution’s case as “feeble”, arguing that it had failed to provide “copious evidence” linking Fani-Kayode with money laundering" the online portal wrote

Muslim Group Condemns Ese's Abductor, Yunusa, Says he must be Prosecuted

The Muslim Rights Concern has condemned Ese's alleged abductor, Yunusa for taking the under-aged girl to Kano State in August 2015 and marrying her without her parents consent.
In a statement released by its Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola yesterday March 1st, the group said that the fact that Yunusa is a Muslim does not becloud their sense of judgement. The group called for his prosecution.

The statement also added that Ese's conversion to Islam is null and void as she is still too young to decide what religion asides that of her parents to follow. The statement reads in part

“Our position is based on the fact that the girl is a minor. Attempting to marry off the girl without her parents’ permission is not only a breach of common law, but also a violation of the Sharia provision on the need for the parents’ approval before nikah (Islamic marriage) can be deemed valid (La nikah bila waliyyin). Of particular significance in this regard is the express command in the Glorious Qur’an that women should be married with the permission of their parents. The Qur’an says inter alia, ‘…And marry them (i.e. women) with the permission of their parents (Qur’an 4:25).’ The boyfriend cannot go scot-free if it is established that he had had the carnal knowledge of the girl. In fact, his case is judiciable both before the Kano Sharia Court and the Yenagoa Court.

The fact that Yunusa is a Muslim cannot becloud our sense of justice. The Qur’an commands Muslims to ‘…Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses of Allah, even if the case is against yourselves, or your parents, or your family, and whether it is against a rich or poor man… (Qur’an 4:135). Unless it can be proved that the girl came to Kano separately and alone, not in the company of Yunusa, the latter stands culpable. Section 38 (ii) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, stresses the right of parents on their children in matters of religion. The purported conversion is therefore null and void and of no consequence whatsoever. Ese Oruru cannot be free to choose her own faith until she is 18.”the statement added.

Photo : Man's Leg Crushed After Driver Crashes Into Mr Biggs Eatery In Lagos

It was a very bad day for this man who left his home and decided to spend some time at a Mr Biggs eatery situated next to a Mobil fuel station at Oregun, Lagos but he never imagined that a place of relaxation would turn to a place of torment.

He opted to sit by the door, maybe to have a clear view of the harassed citizens struggling to buy fuel.

It must have being like film trick when out of the blues, a car trying to park by a fuel pump at the filling station, lost control and in a move reminiscent of the Fast and Furious franchise, crashed into the eatery.

Unfortunately for the man in picture who was by the door, the 'flying' car smashed his leg.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former president Goodluck Jonathan and late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's government to account for all the loots they recovered during their respective administrations, Vanguard reports.

Delivering judgement in a Freedom of Information suit filed by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) today March 1st, the presiding judge, Justice M.B. Idris, ruled that successive governments since the return of democracy in 1999 “breached the fundamental principles of transparency and accountability for failing to disclose details about the spending of recovered stolen public funds, including on a dedicated website.”

He thereafter ordered that President Buhari “ensures that his government, and the governments of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, and former President Goodluck Jonathan account fully for all recovered loot.”.

Details ordered by the court to be made public include: information on the total amount of recovered stolen public assets by each government; the amount of recovered stolen public assets spent by each government as well as the objects of such spending and the projects on which such funds were spent.

50-year old Kamoru Oladele pictured above, has been arrested for selling human parts for  N25,000 and N30,000 and owning a human abattoir in Oyo and Osun states, Nigeria.

According to Vanguard, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade, while parading him at the state Police Headquarters in Ibadan, said the breakthrough was made by the special anti-kidnapping squad of the Command after receiving intelligence report on the activities of the suspects.

When interrogated, Kamoru said
“I am a herbalist and I do fortune charms for people. I am not the one that usually sells human parts. I buy from some people. This is my first time of engaging in this kind of business. I usually buy the human skull for N10,000 and sell it for N25,000 for those that come for fortune charms".

When police searched his house, they alleged that one smoked human skull was recovered and that the suspect used coded words for different human parts. The herbalist said the words can only be decoded by their initiates, adding that “a human head that sells for N30,000 is called agbon (coconut).”

Security Agencies Rescue Governor Dickson's Sister Two Months After Kidnap

The younger sister of Bayelsa State governor, Henry Seriake Dickson has been rescued after spending over two months in the hands of kidnappers. A statement issued on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said 26 year old Nancy Dickson, was rescued on Sunday evening from her abductors without any payment of ransom.

According to him,
"some of the kidnappers took to their heels while others were apprehended following a tip off on their hideouts."

While calling on the people of the state not to succumb to the demands of ransom made by kidnappers, Governor Dickson assured that plans were underway to amend the Bayelsa State Secret Cult, Kidnapping and other Related Offences Prohibition Bill 2012 to proscribe payment of ransom in the state.

He stressed that the Bill when passed into law, would go a long way in putting a stop to the incidence of kidnapping in the state. Dickson urged Bayelsans to take a cue from his personal experience with kidnappers when his aged mother was abducted in 2009 and efforts were made to secure her release without payment of ransom.

As part of efforts to stem criminal activities in the state, Governor Dickson said "a comprehensive security strategy would be launched soon to boost government,s policy of zero tolerance on crime and criminality."

He therefore advised anyone or group of persons who indulge in the unwholesome practice to turn a new leaf as the full weight of the law would be brought to bear on any culprit.

Shocking : Pastor Butchers Wife in Cold Blood(Photos)

Delivered severally by God but rather chose to remain bound, the story of Pastor Mark Chukwudi Etiti of Victory Pentecostal Church Ogbaku in Mbaitolu L.G.A of Imo State. A secondary school dropout and redeemed wheelbarrow pusher turned pastor. The story of this self acclaimed man of God who hails from Agwa in Oguta, LGA of Imo State is one that elicits so many thoughts about the biblical end time and the rise of so many devil’s incarnate in the guise of Pastors whose sole aim is to deceive and defraud at every given opportunity.

The story of Pastor Mark and his unfortunate wife Perpetua Udoka dates back to February 2000. Udoka who commenced a bright career in banking in a small town called Ogbaku near Owerri in Imo State innocently confided in a brother in the church who incidentally was the leader of the prayer squad of their local church at a time. She solicited for the face of God concerning her proposals from three suitors who were seriously asking for her hand in marriage, a medical doctor, a fellow banker and a public servant. Her genuine intention was for this brother to join hands with her to seek for  God’s intervention  to enable her make the very best of decision.

Unknown to her, she had just had a date with the very devil she’s intending to avoid. Pastor Mark who was supposedly expected to hear from God for onward transmission to Udoka could not help but fraudulently take advantage of the situation. In his criminal revelation to sister Udoka who waited earnestly for the solemn voice of God, he quietly muted in such a shameless display of authority weeks after that God has changed everything. “Initially, the banker was the one, but God has seen that marrying him won’t allow you serve him the way he wants you to and so he changed it.” he said. Who then is the one? Your curiosity is as high as mine. In his tactical measure of deceit, summoning the guts and clearing the air to weed off suspicion, he replied “I’m sure it will be difficult for you to accept, but certainly God has spoken” I’m the one.

Was it a bitter pill to swallow? Yes it was. This no doubt instigated a lot of dust. For Udoka’s family, it was a no no particularly considering pastor Mark’s educational background and social status. What does the young man do for a living? How does he intend to sustain a family, How will he cope with the family members and all sort of questions made the choice process a herculean task for Udoka. But for her, since God has supposedly spoken, she would be sure she’s making the right choice and to cut the long story short, her families were convinced. They all came out supported and fully sponsored the wedding ceremony.

Unknown to Udoka, the biggest attraction was her lucrative career at the time. Just within a space of twenty months, a car was bought, a landed property and a shop was paid for all in the name of the husband Pastor Mark Chukwudi Etiti. Udoka built a house for her Pastor husband on bank loan. She did a lot both for the husband’s family and the husband himself on loans including borrowing money on behalf of the husband to the extent that repayments become a serious challenge and she ultimately lost the bank job.
It became a pitiable situation better imagined, after she lost her job. Udoka became a punching bag. On many occasions, the mother in-law will come all the way from the village to order Udoka out of the very house she built. Udoka had sustained various degrees of injuries inflicted on her by the same husband she picked from the gutters. She was hospitalized severally. The mother in-law had once threatened that it is either Udoka leaves the son alive or the deceased body will be carted away like nobody and her threat came to pass after all. Udoka’s thirteen year old daughter had once reported to the police of how the father had bitten the mum to stupor on the fear that the mum was dead.

The first brutal cutlass injuries on Udoka were recorded in 2013. This time, Udoka’s family thought it was indeed enough. The matter was formally taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Nigerian Police in Owerri, who documented the evidences, detained the pastor and later released him. The family has actually concluded plans to forcefully relocate her and her children after so many refusals from her before the brutal murder of Udoka by the same man who she gave three beautiful children. “Is he insane”, the police commissioner asked in bloated anger. “To the best of my knowledge he’s not” Udoka’s brother replied.

On that faithful day, My mummy in her usual manner, woke up around 5.00am,got us ready for school, gave us our food, asked me to take my younger sister to her school and return the key to her in the church, while she left for our church early morning prayer session. I finished dressing up and told my daddy who was in his room that I’m off to school. He asked me to lock the gate to our house from outside and I asked why and he shouted me down. I did exactly that and returned the key to my mum in the church. I went back to my mummy’s shop around 1:00pm and could not meet her in the shop. That was unusual knowing fully well when we usually come back from school. I called her line and she was not picking. I asked her neighbors and they said she told them my daddy called her. I then took my siblings along to the house. On getting to the house, every place looked deserted. We usually access the house through the kitchen door, but that faithful day, the kitchen door was locked. I called my dad to ask him if he has seen mummy. He asked me where we are and I said we are at home and the doors were all locked. Within 2 minutes, daddy appeared. Unusual of daddy, he decided to follow the back door instead of the usual front kitchen door and asked me to stay outside. I could not comprehend my father’s body language and I quickly followed him and went straight to my mum’s room while he made his way to his room. The sight of flowing blood in mummy’s room got me more frightened and when I shouted blood, my dad ran straight to the kitchen where my mum’s body was used to block the kitchen door, the same door my daddy strategically avoided on entering the compound. I later saw my mum’s phone near the kitchen window with my daddy’s 3 missed calls on the phone. The daughter explained.

“My mother does not owe anybody. My mum does not have any problem with anybody. My daddy has always been chasing us about with cutlass all the time. He has severally threatened to kill mummy and her people won’t do anything. The last time, I thought my mummy was dead when she was brutally beaten with cutlass by my daddy and blood was gushing like water. I called my uncle and he was not responding. I then went to police to report him and he was arrested. Two days before he killed mummy, I saw him from the bathe room cutting the ceiling of our house. The following morning, I heard him telling my mother that armed robbers came to the house and that the entered through the ceiling. He was showing mummy the note he claimed the brought which read “Pastor Mark be careful, this is to tell you we can come and go”. I told mummy that I saw dad cutting that place two days back and was not done by any armed robber. I told mummy we should go to my anti’s place that dad is up to something but mummy refused. Now look at where she has brought us to. Daddy has simply fulfilled his wish and God will judge him”. She laments.

Answering to the Imo state Police Command who has gathered all their evidences and have charge him to court, the unrepentant pastor murderer insisted that nobody can ever tolerate his kind of wife. According to him, he said he’s not sure any super man can live with his wife for the number of years he did.

Pastor Mark who is cooling off in the prison and waiting for the judgment day is known for machete violence. He consistently boasted of how he had chopped off somebody’s arm back in his village for insulting the mother. He severally inflicted cutlass injuries on the late father’s body and has constantly chased his sister away from the house with cutlass. Like the proverbial saying that he that kills with cutlass shall die through the cutlass, will that be Pastor Mark Chukwudi Etiti’s lot. This is left to the Nigeria Judicial system and the Nigeria Police.

No fewer than 23, 846 ghost workers have been removed from the Federal government's payroll, saving the government a staggering N2.293 billion sum from the total salary bill for the ministries, departments and agencies MDAs for February 2016.

According to the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, who disclosed this over the weekend, Bank Verification Exercise and enrolment to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) exposed ghost workers that have hitherto been collecting salaries in various MDAs.

The BVN is a unique number that identifies each bank’s customer for “Know Your Customer” (KYC) purposes. The use of BVNs, rather than physical appearance of workers for biometric capture at the initial stage of verification, has significantly simplified and accelerated the progress of the payroll audit process and reduced the cost of implementation.
