Footballer stabs mechanic to death over age disagreement

In a twinkle of an eye, an argument can turn nasty and results in the death of someone and in a single act of stubbornness, the very prospect of one's life and dream can be whisked away. A 20-year-old aspiring football player from Afikpo North, Ebonyi State, Jacob pictured above has been arrested by the Lagos state Police command for killing a mechanic, Moruf Sanni by stabbing him to death over an arguement regarding age difference at Iwaya,Yaba on Monday May 25th.

According to reports, the victim, Moruf had an argument and a fight with someone in his area simply identified as 'Somebody', over who was older on Sunday May 24th. The fight was  then settled by the elders in the area.

Angered by Moruf's claim that he was older and was not going to give him respect, 'Somebody' contacted his friend, Jacob to teach Moruf a lesson.

Jacob accosted the deceased in his compound and didn't teach him a lesson but stabbed him repeatedly on the neck and head and killed him. He was arrested by the residents of the area who witnessed the incident and chained to the corpse.

Father of the deceased, Mr Lukman, who is a taxi driver, said he had gone in search of fuel and as he returned, a neighbor ran to his house to inform him that somebody was fighting his son
“Somebody ran to my house. He said a strange man was fighting with my son. I immediately rushed there, only to see the corpse of my son. The suspect was tied to my son’s corpse. I simply thanked him for killing my son and walked away.”
The victim's mother according to a relative of the deceased lost her mind immediately she saw her son's corpse because the deceased was the second son she had lost.
“February 20 of this year made it exactly 3 years that the first child of the family was killed. A police stray bullet hit him when the police came to look for some hoodlums. So, when this one happened again, their mother just ran away and has not been seen since then.”the relative said
A police source  who spoke on condition of anonymity said the suspect when interrogated gave a different version of events.
“He said they went for a birthday party on Sunday night and it was there they had a disagreement. The following morning, he confronted Moruf and the deceased then brought out a knife which he collected from him. He said Moruf then got a bottle and it was while he wanted to block him from using it that it mistakenly stabbed him in the neck.”the police source said
The father of the deceased has asked for his son's body for burial but the corpse has been deposited at a mortuary while the police says they are investigating the matter.

I killed bank manager out of anger – Suspect

Emotion ran high, yesterday, at the Oduduwa, Ikeja office of the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, following a starling confession of a 33-year-old man who snuffed life out of a bank manager, weekend, in Satelite area of Lagos.

The suspect, Kenneth Udeh, who had been living with his in-law, Onyeka Idemili, since last year, told journalists that he carried out the act because of his inability to put his temperament in check. He, however, exonerated his brother in-law from the crime.

He said the deceased had on several occasions called him to prevail on his brother in-law to pay him the N11.8 million owed him, an amount, which Vanguard reliably gathered , the deceased borrowed from a woman in his bank.

He said: “On Saturday, Emeka (banker) called me and we went to buy newspapers and were reading them in his sitting room when he brought up the issue of the borrowed sum. At that point, he accused me of spending the money with my in-law and in the process, there was an argument.

He pushed me and I fell down down. Then, I rushed out of his flat and dashed into ours, to collect a kitchen knife. When I got to his flat, I started warning him, pointing the knife at him. Then he rushed at me. I did not know I had stabbed him until I saw blood on the floor. At that point, I ran out and jumped through the fence to the other street to avoid being lynched. I never knew he was dead until now.”

On his part, the man at the centre of controversy, Onyeka Idemili(debtor) who deals on cosmetics and sandals, maintained that he never sent his brother in-law to commit such an act.

He admitted to have borrowed N11 million from the deceased sometime last year with a promise to pay interest of N1.9 million monthly. But along the line, he could not meet up with the interest, an action he blamed on the deceased’s failure to release the borrowed amount on time.

He claimed to have been in his shop at Trade Fair complex, along Badagry expressway, last Saturday, when his phone rang, only to be informed that some policemen were ransacking his aprtment.

But he did not go to his house to ascertain what the problem was, as the assailant, according to him, later called him to meet him at Surulere.

But he was arrested at Maza-Maza park where Police said he was making move to board the next available vehicle to the east.
