20 Security officials for training abroad

As part of efforts to enhance the capacity of Nigerian security establishment to tackle the menace of the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, 20 officials have been selected to undergo specialised training abroad.

The officials include eight from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), eight from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and four officials from the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Speaking in Abuja, yesterday, the Italian envoy to Nigeria , Ambassador Roberto Colamine, noted that the course in Italy will be adjusted to suit the Nigerian situation.

He said: “The course is for 20 Nigerians who are engaged in border control. The course is slightly different and we are going to adapt the course to suit the Nigerian situation.

This is the moment when information sharing on border control is important.”

Permanent Secretary in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ambassador Martins Umoihoibhi, expressed government appreciation for the gesture, adding: “ Nigeria attaches great importance to this. This is happening at an auspicious time because now we need to look at how our borders are being operated which has become of great concern to our security.”
