Airlines flying between London and Nigeria on Thursday either cancel or rescheduled their flights due to the ongoing national strike in Nigeria.

An official of the British Airways told the Europe correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria in London that current flights schedules to Nigeria have been suspended.

He said resuming the scheduled flights would depend on the situation in Nigeria.

“As you can see, we are still flying today (Thursday) subject to a few possible delays due to the strike in Nigeria.

“We had to rescheduled this flight from yesterday (Wednesday); we have appealed to our esteem passengers to re-check their bookings and they seem to understand the situation,’’ the official, who pleaded anonymity, said.

Mr Chudi Eke an Abuja bound passenger, who corroborated this said, he had to reschedule his flight from Wednesday to Thursday.

Eke, who expressed concern over the negative impact of the strike on the country said there was a need for dialogue between government and the organised labour.

Meanwhile, Arik Air said it has cancelled its London to Lagos flight on Thursday but that its Abuja-London flight would operate as scheduled.

Mr Simon Cook, Associate Vice President Sales (Europe) said the airline was doing its utmost best to minimise disruption as a result of the strike.

“Arik cancelled flights just for the first two days; we have had to reschedule two of our flights to try accommodating passengers and minimising disruption as much as possible,’’ Cook said.(NAN)
