Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) operation, Mr. Audu Abubakar has debunked the insinuation that the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram has infiltrated the Nigeria Police Force.
DIG Abubakar was reacting to a question raised by a journalist on the concern expressed by President Goodluck Jonathan that the sect had infiltrated the Presidency, National Assembly and the security agencies.

The DIG stated this during his assessment tour of Bauchi State Police Command, saying the insinuation was a mere speculation which was devoid of substantive facts. He said there was no proof of existence of the sect in police formation.

“Whatever you hear about Boko Haram existence in the police has not been proved by anyone. We police are like judge, if we have not prove any case we cannot base issue of that magnitude on hearsay, there is need to verify things very well.

“Until such is confirmed after making arrest, investigation and prosecute it in the court of law, before anyone can be declared a member of Boko Haram sect. As of now we have not detected anyone in the police. This is my personal opinion.”

Speaking on the marching order issued by the Boko Haram leaders for the Southerners in the North to return to their respective states, Mr. Abubakar said such threat was an empty one, since it was not from the authority of the federal or state government.

He said it was the handiwork of the terrorists who were out to cause disaffection in the country: “The terrorists see us as their enemies, we see them like that too. They are doing everything possible to cause disaffection among the people of the country.”

Speaking earlier, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba appealed to the DIG “to demobilise and deploy able-bodied men and women from PMF who could conveniently contend with our peculiar environment and security challenges.

“We crave the indulgence of DIG ‘B’ and the police high command to bear Bauchi in mind, particularly in the demobilization and deployment to the state of able bodies men and women from the PMF who could conveniently contend with our peculiar environment and security challenges.”

He also appealed for Armoured Personnel Carrier to be allocated to the command, to curtail the hoodlums in the state, saying the state was one of the most peaceful in the country.
