AS the nationwide strike over fuel subsidy removal persists, a Niger Delta youth activist, Thursday, appealed to former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon to wade into the logjam by prevailling on President Goodluck Jonathan to revert to the old pump price of N65,00 per litre in order to end the suffering of Nigerians.

Mr. Emmanuel Okotie-Eboh, who spoke to newsmen in Warri yesterday, explained that Gen. Gowon was the most suitable elderstatesman, who he thought the President would listen to, adding that with the Federal Government and Labour locked in a showdown, elderstatemen like Gen. Gowon should help bring the crisis to an end.

Okotie-Eboh, son of former Finance Minister, late Chief Festus Okotie-Eboph said: “Among those who fought the civil war, Gen. Gowon is the most senior and experienced officer and he is not a religious bigot.”

He said that the ongoing fuel subsidy crisis was enough for the government to realise that Nigerians were not happy with the situation in the country and asked the government to have a rethink over the increase in the pump price of petrol.
