One JTFsoldier killed in Ogoni

A soldier attached to Sector two of the Joint Task Force, JTF ‘Operation Pulo Shield’ has been killed by suspected criminals in Teyor Kanni community in Ogoni area of Rivers state.

Public Relations Officer of the 2 Brigade, Port Harcourt and Sector two of the JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Aminu Iliyasu who confirmed the development to Vanguard said some suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident and would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

He also dismissed as untrue allegations by Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP that soldiers had taken over Teyor Kanni community.

His words, “the attention of Sector two of the Joint Task Force, Operation Pulo Shield has been drawn to the allegation and wish to unequivocally put the points straight that officers and men of the Command have been and still are deployed all over the state especially at the key and vulnerable points in aid of civil authority for the safety and security of lives and property.

“It is also true while these patriotic men are performing their legitimate duty in the said community, a criminal gang shot and killed an officer. After diligent intelligence, suspects were identified and arrested for interrogation and possible prosecution.

“Suffice it to say that soldiers never invaded Teyor Kanni community, a community which they are protecting. The command wish to reassure the good people of the state of its continues effort in protecting lives and properties and an enabling peaceful environment”, he stated.

Meanwhile, MOSOP had alleged invasion of the area by soldiers. According to president of the body, Mr Goodluck Diigbo, about four residents in the community were reportedly shot by the soldiers but he could not say if they died.

“A number of individuals have been manhandled. Five persons shot, no confirmation of death yet”, Diigbo said.
